Pixie will be seven months old tomorrow. I haven't weighed her in about a month. Right now we aren't giving up hope that she will grow more because she wasn't eating well before. But a breeder has been giving us advice, and we switched Pixie's diet to higher protein foods. She is doing much better now, very playful and active, so I don't want to do any unneccesary surgery. It wouldn't be worth loosing her. Has anyone else left the baby teeth in? Did they have problems down the road?

YOU CANNOT LEAVE BABY TEETH IN!!! That is unless a qualified canine dentist tells you that you should. I have been having loads of problems with my baby Bruce's teeth...In fact he is going to be getting braces even sometime within the next 3 months. Remaining baby teeth is just one problem we currently have and yes I will be having them surgically removed when the orthodontic devices are placed on his teeth...Yes it seems like unneccessary pain, but our vet and 2 canine dentists have told me it is neccessary to avoid more serious problems such as malocusion (bite troubles), serious wry bite (with this they can and often lose ability to eat on their own), and even worse abcess and infection that could cause blood disease/sepsis. Seek the advice of not just your vet but one that specializes in dentistry before making any decisions. I do not mean to seem like I am lecturing but I know you love your baby and want the best for her!

Well, I have talked with my breeder and got the names of a few vets who specialize in small dogs. We saw one of them today and he seems a lot more comfortable with small dogs. He recomended that we give her another three months and then we will spay her and remove any baby teeth still in all at once. He said the permanents aren't all the way through yet so she is a bit of a late-bloomer, and we should give her a little more time to let the baby teeth fall out on their own. He was suprised the first vet didn't warn me to be on the look out for the double teeth! This vet made me feel much more comfortable. Plus-his wife has a yorkie! :D I told him he better give me good advice since I have all of my YT pros to consult with! Thanks for y'alls help! Pixie is my first yorkie, and there sure is a lot to learn! I'm glad I have you guys! :animal-sm
