Another question - if I'm feeding dried liver as treats, should that replace the fresh organ meat I give? **We just had our first chicken wing... he took to it RIGHT away! He didn't finish it by any means, but he had had some kibble a few hours ago so he probably wasn't 100% hungry. He ate a ton of skin and most of the meat off part of the wing. I don't think he got much bone but I did hear bone crunching a few times. (ewww, HATE that sound! lol) So we're off to a great start! Though hubby wasn't impressed cutting the chicken up - I didn't have enough strength with our crappy knives to do it! lol Next on the purchase list is a good set of knives, particularly a meat cleaver! |
You may want to go easy on the skin as this may be too much fat. Hope he does ok. |

As for the crunching sound, I guess I associate with shows like E.R. when they're cutting into someone's chest, or I just worry about breaking teeth. Either way, it's like nails on a blackboard to me... which ironically, nails on a blackboard DOESN'T bother me! :D |
Another 1st... while I was cutting up the liver to make the treats, I gave him 2 small pieces. He LOVED it! Nice to know he'll like the cheap and easy to get organ meat :) Mommy doesn't need to see or smell liver again anytime soon though, ewww! lol Yeah, not much about feeding raw is appetizing, but at least I know it's good for him! |
Good to hear that he enjoyed his wing :) |

Yep thats fine, garlic is only harmful to them in large amounts. |
I ended up skipping the garlic, which is fine since he likes the dried liver as much as the fresh. I wish I could send everyone some SoCo loves liver vibes, cause he couldn't get enough last night! I stopped after 2 pieces though. It's funny though - as much as he seems to like the chicken, he'll take his "morning" (12-1 pm when I get up) meal in 1 shot but his "dinner" (6-8 pm) he won't finish. Both nights now I end up having to give him what he didn't finish around 12-1 am. Then he finishes it no problem. Well, mostly anyway. He missed a small bit of bone last night, and a larger piece tonight so far. He thought it was a lovely toy to fling around my office while I'm on a customer service call for Pizza Hut trying to keep a straight face and someone's in my ear saying their pizza was gross... lol It's never a dull moment with yorkies, eh? So here's this post's questions: he's definitely chewing on the bones and eating a percentage of the bones, but if he's not getting it all, should I start feeding an egg more than once a week? Or maybe just more yogurt? Is it good that I'm trying to give him rmb in every meal or should I tone that down a bit? |
As long as he's eating some bone he will be fine, I only usually feed rmb's in one of their two meals a day. Sounds like your boy is a pretty good self regulator, thats what my Indy is like, she never over eats, just eats what she needs. |
RMB's are a no go My dogs do not like to eat bones. The only thing they eat are turkey necks (cut into bite size pieces or maybe a tad bigger than bite size). I'm so frustrated!! I've tried everything ... chicken wings, legs and breast, turkey wings and legs but to no avail. They want nothing to do with bones!! This is so frustrating. I don't know what else to do! Any suggestions to get them eating bones? I had my butcher grind up some bones for me and I've been putting it in their ground meat and also mixing it in with their cutlets (like turkey and pork) and steak. They are eating more expensive meat than hubby and I put together lolol Althought I'm not really a meat person and definitely not a red meat person lol But seriously, am I doing something wrong? I tried again this morning with chicken wings and they wanted nothing to do with it. :( The butcher said he'd have my order of rabbit legs and duck wings and legs by Friday, so hopefully that will tempt them a little bit more than the turkey or chicken bones. |

On another note, I think someone got too much liver last night. We had a mix of liquid and really solid on the floor this morning. Lesson learned! Not that I didn't believe you - just didn't know how LITTLE it took! lol Tara :) |
so, Chloe is being so picky lately! I think she is finally tired of eating NV Organic chicken! She didn't show any interest to it lately! So, I finally decided to cook it a little to bring out the good smell, then she finally decided to eat it! What a brat! she is too spoil! So, this morning I switched her to NV vension and she showed interest! thanks God! I thought she was sick of eating raw meat! So, I think she just sick of eating the same raw meat! I guess I will go buy more different meats for her. So, she won't sick of eating same meat over and over again!:p |
Yay Chloe!! |
