We tried raw today!!
 
So I finally did it..Reese and I went to the store today and picked up some Nature's Variety Venison...I was afraid that she wouldn't eat it, but she did!!! Every bit of it!! Now I am just keeping my fingers crossed that she doesn't throw up!!

Let me know how it goes! I was just looking at a bag of Natural Balance Raw in Petco yesterday, but chickened out! Good luck!

Was this the medallions or the freeze dried? I am getting ready to try it too....let me know how your baby does.

It was the medallions...If it goes ok I will probably get the freeze dried for when we travel...keeping my fingers crossed...ok so far!!!:D

Yes they do. It was in a freezer right by the dry kibble in Petco.

GOOD JOB!!! Layla is fighting allergies and feeling crappy but as soon as she is better we are trying raw too!

i get ours at a health food dog emporium.. lol.. a small pet store that only sells healthy food.. human grade stuff...

Reese is also suffering from terrible allergies, which is why the holistic vet told me to switch her to raw because it should help a lot...

** To find Nature's Variety...if you go onto their site, you can put your zip code in the store locator tab and it will tell you the closest places that sell it by you...

Is there anything else that I should be giving her...I have some probiotics and enzymes to sprinkle on her food...i read something about changing the protein...should I be switching between say venison and rabbit..how often...what should I do as far as treats...so many questions...but I am really excited to get her on the right track and want to do it the right way!!:thumbup:

Some people supplement but most don't and its certainly not necessary. The main thing is to vary it so that they take in lots of different nutrients. I give salmon oil and vitamin e (not every day) but thats just to give their coat and skin that extra something, its not really dietary. It is good to give a digestive support at first though, to help them. So what your doing is great. I give the odd bit of live yogurt, which is crammed with great digestive enzymes. Stick to the same meat/protein for at least a week or so, until your sure she is ok with it (i.e solid poos etc) then you can switch and yes in the long term its best to use more than one protein source. Treats, I use all sorts of things for treats, any food in a little piece can be a treat. Commercial treat wise though, I don't feed many but if I do then I stick with all natural ones. Stuff like dried liver, fish etc is great.

I worked at a Raw food store for quite awhile, and I know a lot about it, too if anyone has questions- I switched many, many dogs while I worked there *And* my little one as well. She looks like a million bucks and keeps up well.

She really likes Dogswell's Breathies chicken treats. Any of the dogswell line, actually. Except the liver smells awful! (As liver normally does, haha)

Did you switch your baby gradually or did you do it cold turkey? And do you use Nature's Variety or you prepare the raw yourself..any additional info you can give me that you think I need to know about this diet would be so appreciated!!
