Morkie tips please.... I have a 4 1/2 month old morkie (maltese/yorkie) and would like to have grooming tips please. I bathe her once a week, is that enough? Her facial hair looks like it may be impeding her sight, can I cut it? She keeps getting these little tangled balls of fur, how do I get rid of them? Any info at all concerning grooming would be appreciated. Thanks, andrea |
If you cut it, you'll be cutting it forever. I'd be patient and let it grow out and it won't bother her again. It sounds like she's matting up. You need to find a detangling spray. I use Ice on Ice. You spray (midst) and brush though. This needs to be done everyday to avoid matting. You may need a comb to get these out for now. You can put Mane and Tail on to help get these matts out also. If you want a beautiful coat get a brush that doesn't have the ball pins on the ends. It can be painful trying to get out those matts (tangles) so be sure to brush her often during the week. She'll thank you for it. |
I agree. Once you start cutting you'll always be cutting, and using detangler is an excellent idea. I use mane and tale and it works great on their hair. |
I have a Morkie almost the same age. I brush her every day and try to brush the hair away from her eyes till it grows out. After shampooing I use Plush Puppys Blow Dry Cream. It works wonders with combing them out and getting matts out and controlling them. I would never be without it again.:D There is the awkward stage where the hair is just unruly - hang in there while it grows out.:) |
I have a morkie Peanut, and I have been shaving him down for years, He has the maltese hair, extra thick, but once you do cut the hair on the face, well you have to continue all the time, if I had it to do over again, I would of trained him with a topknot..but his almost 11 and he hates that now...good Luck:D |
Sounds like patience is the key! But I'm williing for her. thanks, andrea |
my vet told me that givin my puppy a bathe every week is too much because this dries out the puppies skin. So she recommended 3-4 weeks. |
my vet told me you should put vaseline (sp?) on the places around their eyes and if you cut them they grow in thicker and hurt their eyes more its been working for my morkie Henry so far hope that helps some:) |
I bathe my yorkies every two weeks..I was doing it weekly but found they were getting itchy from it..I use a good conditioner and a spray and brush at least once a day and now the tangles come out so easily...do you have pics of your Morkie?? |
Thanks for the tip about hair in eyes. Thank you for the vaseline tip. I have been wondering what to do about the hair in Tessie's eyes,(my 4 1/2 mo. old morky) :) She is so sweet but I have worried how to cut it since she wiggles so. How do you keep them still to cut and trim without taking her to a groomer? |
Help me post a thread with pictures of my yorkies<i have been trying now for days>thankyou |
I have a 8 month old morkie an she is matted mostly around her neck where her collar goes an her thighs she HATES her feet touched so hard to trim the hair around her feet her hair seems very dry i have not been using conditioner on her maybe i should start what kind of brush do i use i have been using a small cat brush with metal bristles she dont care for it much im new at this site so not sure what im doing |
My max is a Morkie! I did not know there we so many Morkies here! We keep him in a long puppy cut. I did not want to have to deal with putting the hair up-LOL I use the Cloud Star products for mats and give him a bath once a week or so. And his "Dad" does not like the hair up...to foo foo for his boy he says-LOL :animal36 |
thanks for the info i comb her every day seems around her neck is the worst and she HATES her feet done so that is quite difficult for me i dont really know what the cuts really are but i try my best ppl say shes cute haha |
My little Morky, Todo (8 mos) loves his bath and combing...I'm not very good at the grooming part though, he's also too wiggly! learned my lesson early on with a bad cut...so off to Dog De Salon he goes. I will take a pic and post tomorrow after his visit there. Seriously though, I just started combing him every night while watching TV and now he brings the comb to me. "tiny round comb kept with his toys" I have never had a little fella like him and I love him to pieces  He has such a great personality and loves everyone he meets except my 5 year old grandson...:confuse2: Good Luck with your baby, just be gentle, Dorothy |
Hello, this is my first time posting, I enjoy reading about other morkies....I give mine a bath when he needs it...he loves water and dirt so does not stay clean long...I brush him a lot so he doesn't mind it. He's only 4 months so I haven't taken him to a groomer, I hope to do the small stuff myself. I have been cutting his eye hair since we've had him and I shave his toes and butt...I try his belly but he is too wiggly and it freaks me out because I have nipped him...I must say we've never owned a dog and we are in love with our puppy, he is adorable, has a great personality and is very smart...I read about morkies on the net and do not regret getting Tucker, he has taken over our lives... |
I am new also. I have a 6 month old morkie. I had a lot of trouble with her. She was mean, bites, barks, and has housebreaking issues. I have never had a puppie so rotten. She is also the sweetest most cuddly puppy if she is in control. I started telling her STOP and squirt with spray bottle. It worked instantly. Now I just say stop and she lays her little head down and stops what she is doing. |
Tucker is now 71/2 months...and has decided chewing things is a good thing...still struggling with the loose leash walking but it is improving...he too likes to be in control...he is quite a calm puppy, is good at entertaining himself, however as soon as he sees another dog he goes bananas, then everyone thinks he is hyper hyper hyper....we will enjoy this because they are not puppies for long.. |
Hi, Oh yes, I forgot that she eats everything. She chewed my table, shoes, loves newspaper's. When I bought her I bought a maltypoo, as she got older I knew she wasn't poodle mix. I went on line and looked at the morkies and there she was. Mine is a little bigger then others on line. She is 6 mths and weights 8lbs. Nice to talk with you. Judy Sophie's mom |
Tucker is about 9 1/2 pounds but still a small dog...he ate the wall and my daughter's shoe...but he's so cute its hard to stay mad at him...we just have to put him in his crate if we leave...enjoy your puppy |
We can't get mad at Sophie, if we do she gets worse. She has done great since using the spray bottle. |
Morkies and more Morkies! How great it is to find so many Morkie mamas on here. My little Belle is 1 yr old today (10-18) We love her so mcuh despite the fact that she is a stinker! She doesn't have any stuffed toys left and feels that no couch pillows should have stuffing. If I don't catch her, she follows me around with a mouth full until I see her, then she runs. She shreds every bit of newspaper she can find, and lets not forget toilet paper and kleenex. She hates grooming, I think she is just too busy to be still for that long. Belle is black and white, We just had her first groomer session a couple weeks ago and it went good and bad. Her tail is docked like a Yorkies so the groomer cut all the fringe off:eek: Not a happy mama. Belle likes to lay on her back and twist all over so we deal with mats. I bought a Chris Christensen wood brush with wood pegs and it works great. The oils in the wood help it go through the mats. Sometimes we hit a bad one and we still get "growlies" but it's better then her other brush and metal comb. I trim Belle's face. Started and have to continue. I don't do the top knot as it takes quite a while and lasts for about 30 seconds. Instead I gather up the hair on her ear and put a bow in it, she forgets about that pretty fast. I found a picture on the internet of a Maltese puppy cut and took that to the groomer. She cut it fairly the same and it looks pretty good. I know Belle is a wiggler. You can see her new haircut on my album page. She has so much personality and has learned if she is in trouble to act really cute with the paws on her face...I posted another post a few days ago about her TV watching, it's getting really bad. She has her dad's looks of the Maltese face and her mom's Yorkie attitude but I love the combination. Wouldn't trade her for the world. We need to start a Morkie group so we can compare and share tips although most things about the Yorkies apply to Morkies too. I have found everyone on this YT to be really friendly. |
new MORKIE - needs leash training My sister got a Morkie 4 months ago. He spends half his time with me and I pretty much train him to all sorts of things. Although, i think i should lay off the water because he keeps ringing the bell to go outside every 20 minutes. Anyhow, he responds to me more than his owners. I think it's because I spend way more time with him. His commands I taught are from YouTube. He is potty trained and other skills at 6 months include: Ringing bell to go outside, sitting, laying down, staying, leave items alone, fetching and retrieving toys, jumping up, crouching on hind legs, playing dead on "bang, bang!"-- rolls over, understands "leash" and holds head up while i attach a leash, jumping up, pulling, releasing on command, shaking paw, goes to crate on "go to sleep" command. Can identify from 2-3 different toys and fetches on command. Working on loose leash training, but he hates the leash. I am thinking of strapping him to my waste and just walking around the house for a weekend... any tips on loose leash training? |
Nobuyuki yuki morkie too I bathe Yuki usually once or twice a week...depending on the trips outside etc...I think it is best to keep products off of the face...In between washes I use a warm wash cloth to clean his face... you can gently blow dry. He did have a puppy cut, but now I am letting his hair grow long...while it is growing long enough for a topnot you can use tiny hair clips and also train hair to lay to one side...sort of like human hair...when we have bangs...train the hair to lay one way.. Hello. This is my first time posting on here. I have a morkie puppy, Darwin, who is 13 weeks old. About a week ago I noticed she was matting up. I have slowly been combing her to get the tangles out (I got most of them!). Darwin HATES getting combed. She growls and bites. Yesterday, she bit me and broke skin. I started scolding her for biting, but she just went and hid in the corner. I feel horrible. Any ideas on what I can do? |
My groomer told me to put cotton balls in the ears while bathing to cut down on risk of ear infections. |
Morkie we just adopted a 9-10 wk female morkie...we have a 2 yr yorkiepoo...this tiny morkie is so agressive..she rules the house! |
New to site I have a morkie puppy. He is 3 1/2 months old. I don't know how to find the 'forum' or whatever it's called for morkies. Help? |
Morkies are part of this forum. There is no separate forum for Morkies. Welcome to YT. We'd love to see photos of your little boy. |
