getting the eye bugers out I have a small flea comb and i was just wondering if that would work to get out the eye bugers out of spencers face. he wont let me trim them out of his face with the hand trimmer or the little scissors we have. thanks for the help guys |
I think I saw that mentioned in another post. A flea comb should work. Gracie won't let me near her eyes with anything but a wash cloth. So I just use a warm wet wash cloth and it comes out fairly easily. |
flea combs work. I use one of those little wooden shoe polish brushes and brush it out of their hair when I bathe them. |
I used a baby wipe today to get Sugar's eye boogers. I wasn't sure if that was okay, but I made sure not to get it into her eyes. It seemed to work really well. Can anyone let me know if this isn't a good idea. Thanks! |
I don't recommend using a scissors anywhere near their eyes, mostly bc they can get hurt. But also, when you trim their surrounding eye hair short and "pokey" - it can often poke into their eye and make even more eye gunk and irritation. Use warm water, a cloth and/or a finger toothbrush (this is what I use). |
On Diesel we are using these extra gentle pet wipes from Perkin to get the eye crust. They are good to use on his face, ear, eyes and body |
I don't use a brush or comb; I use these pads I got from Petsmart. Tear Clear Stain remover pads. They take out the eye boogers really easy. I just wipe down from below her eye down her snout. It dissolves them really easily. I use it before putting her in the bath. |
We use a tiny small handled flea comb and then use eye wipes from Petsmart. My hubby is always making sure that they are "booger free". |
flea comb works the best for me |
I been using a warm wash cloth, then while its still wet, I use a flea comb. |
I use warm q tips :) it works |
The small flea comb works great on Winston, Ive used this for years. |
I just bought Eye Envy. It works to keep the buggers off, but the red stain is still there. It says to use it for a while and it will remove the stains too. Maybe! |
eye envy I just bought the eye envy too. I used it for the first time last night. It said it may take a few times before the stains come out. I hope it works. Let me know how it works for you.:) |
I use the CC comb, the side that is real close together and it works well. |
Have you all heard, that if you give them distilled water, they won't stain? Don't really know how true it is...but Winston has always drank distilled water...and he has no stains. But it could just be his darker coloring or maybe his coat, or maybe my groomer has a trick that I don't know about...maybe I will ask her...hmmmm??? |

I was told it was bad for you to drink Distilled all the time. Here is a link: http://chetday.com/distilledwater.htm |
I use a mascara brush/comb that I buy from Sally's. I've trained them to let's get the buggers and they let me. |

some sites say its good & some say its bad. I'll continue to use my filtered water from the fridge. |
1 Attachment(s) I totally agree with no scissors near the eyes. I was so upset when I took Jack to a new groomer, " we moved to a new town" and saw upon picking him up, she shaved and cut around his eye area. I was pissed. I asked her, did I ask you for this? She said no but I do this to all toy dogs. What a nightmare we went through while the hair was growing back. Poor thing had so many eye boggies from the hair irritating his pretty brown eyes. Needless to say, I never returned to that groomer. I specified what I wanted done when I dropped him off, but like most hair stylist, she did what she wanted... |
I use these q-tip things I got at Complete Petmart they have some type of clear liquid in them you snap one end of the tip and the liquid goes to the other end and works really well to get the eye goop off. When i'm finished I just wash the debris away with a warm wash cloth. I forget what they are called, sometime tear stain remover or something along those lines. |
I use either a warm wash cloth or a fine toothed comb (like a flea comb). Also, I just started washing their head and faces with Aveeno Baby Wash & Shampoo. It's completely tearless so I can get close to their eyes, and they smell good and feel really clean all over their little faces. |
Clean Eyes! 1 Attachment(s) Me too, a warm wash cloth and a flea comb works excellent. Kat & Jack:aimeeyork |
I heard Aveeno works nice. My sister uses that for her Chihuahua's face. I am going to try it. How much should I use on a warm face cloth. Should I dilute it in some water first? Kat |
Ditto.... Bought a good mascara comb/brush combo - and also use the words "let's get the buggers out" and she let's me. I also dampen with warm Q-tip or wash cloth to soften the gooks then comb out. :animal-pa |
My vet recommended using distilled water to clean Jake's eyes with and also for him to drink. His eyes rarely get gunky anymore.:) |
-I have been using these pre-moistened pads that are for removing eye boogers :) i got them at petco.. and they seem to work well. It softens the eye gunk and it slides off easily.. i also comb out any excess that's left. -Has anyone ever used that Angel Eye stuff?? I have seen it multiple times, mostly in pet boutiques or on the internet?? but i have never talked to anyone that actually uses it.. there is some you sprinkle on their food and then also a topical kind that probably softens the gunk as well.. just curious?? |
Max's vet said they're probably from allergies because they got much worse in the summer and to just use water and a paper towel. The Vet Tech also told me to dry the hair around his eyes after so that new bacteria doesn't move in. If it doesn't improve in the fall, I'm going to push my vet to check him out better. |
