stringy looking coat Sadie has a silky coat. It isn't floor length but, no matter how much I brush her the bottom of her coat looks thin and stringy..Do you think if I cut like an inch off this would help? I know with human's it does....what do you think? |
It will make it look thicker but that will not prevent it from getting thin again. What you must do is find out why the coat is thin. You may be breaking it while brushing it. Brush only lightly sprayed hair as it has almost 50% more elasticity. Use the proper brush, and do not lift your hand up while brushing let the brush follow through to the ends of the hair. Your dog may be breaking coat on the carpet or just by playing. Check to make sure your dog is not scratching at the coat. Best of luck to you and yes it does look better to trim the ends. |

Thank you for your advise |
Sorry I couldn't be of more help , but if her coat has always been this way it probably will not change. But the good thing is you do not have to comb matts.:) |
How old is Sadie? My Abigail is 1 y/o, and it sounds like they have similar coats. I thought coats could change up to 2 years? |

So is your new baby soft coated or is she going to be silk? Soft coats matt so easy and are so much more work. I finished my one soft coated Champion girl but she was so much work to keep the matts out and she did not like to be combed . As soon as she finished her Champion Title she got a very short hair cut. She is very happy now.....So am I.... |
confused!! I have a boy with a very thin coat and he does not matt. But my girls hair feel just like his and is thin also only hers is really shiny.Maybe they could be modified silk?wow this is confusing I wish I could see in person a cotton coat silk coat modified coat and a soft coat all together and then we all on here would not be so clueless as to what they are and how to care for them. |

I just want to take him to the AKC and say here, what kind of coat is this and do you have samples of the others? |
:D :D :D :D :D That is hilarious and I 1oo% agree:thumbup: |
Wish we had pics of all types of coats........ 2 Attachment(s) Maybe members could post a pic of their babies coat. Hopefully, we can see one of every type.........Bobbi is silky (I am sure) so we could start here? Coat: Feels like satin, always cool to the touch, doesn't matt, is thin, has natural shine. Can't use any oil based finishing products or he will end up looking greasy and unkept looking. |
Interesting I think Winston's coat is silky towards his head, then turns cottony towards his butt. So I often call him "Fluff Butt". Is there a reason for this 1/2 & 1/2? |

Percy looks amazing right after he is bathed. But usually after a few days, even though he is combed, it looks unkept and stringy. Here are some right out of the bath, and no bath for a week. |
I think Percy is beautiful. Great pictures of his coat. I'd like to say he looks like Winston, but I think Percy's coat is nicer...Winston's back end is REALLY fluffy. And if I ever learn how to use my computer...I will TRY to post pics.:animal36 |

Do you have pics on your computer from a digital camera? There are some threads here that walk you through it. |

Maggie has a soft, thin, wavy (in her rear:rolleyes:), shiny coat that doesn't matt too badly... Hannah has a not so soft, thicker, straight, shiny coat that matts horribly...  Does any one know their ttype of coat??  |
Aww thanks for the comments on Bentley.Yes he is a cuddler and a kisser!!! when he was a little puppy he had real thick hair. he's now 8 months old with this hair now!! Michelle |

Miko has beautiful silk from the head all the way to almost his butt. His rear area is cottony. I'm not sure what to do with that area, but it's starting to look better now that I got Coat Handler products...Plus, I'm going to start adding fish oil to his food for omega-3 fatty acids...He cannot use Missing Link due to his liver problems, and this is what was recommended for liver compromised doggies. Maybe this will help?? Either way, he's perfect to me. |
Bobbi has a beautiful silk coat!! What grooming products do you use? |

Miko is quite a HAM!!! I am so sorry about his liver problems :( Can you sprinkle a little flaxseed meal over his food? I rotate shampoos and conditioners because I literally have a TON and need to be used. I have 4 CC products but I don't think I use them properly.........so, my favorite is Petzlife cranberry fields ;) I haven't tried coat handler products but I hear they are wonderful. I recently read lots of wonderful reviews for Minksheen as well.......I bet it's great stuff! I had been using ML since he was 12 weeks old but he's been off of it for 2 weeks. He had tummy and bowel issues so I am letting them rest then I am going to try him on Seameal and see how that works. I don't use a brush, just a CC buttercomb-it's what has worked best for his coat. My dream/wish is to see him someday in full-coat. If it gets too much to handle or it doesn't happen then I won't be too dissapointed........he is my pet and I love him to death either way :p |
