Thanks every one for replies. I will definily start tipping i feel so bad never even though about it before. I will make sure I give her a xmas card w something extra special in it. she is really nice and good with Gimpy. and always does what i want. |
c'mon , you just have to tip the groomer..... i tip around 8 dollars and the cut is 50.00.. i think thats enough..... but now i do it myself.. |
Kim, Simon and Hallie's groomer, works at the daycare I take them to and I pay $100 for both of them and then I always tip her $20 (I figure $10 each). She is really great and I just love her. Sometimes when I take them to daycare she will take them and brush their hair and give them special treatment. Sometimes she will paint Hallie's nails so I feel like when I get them groomed I'm also tipping her for the special treatment she gives them weekly too. |
I'm just curious, should I tip Jerome's groomer? she is self employed (she has her mobile grooming van) and she charges me 40 bucks, all the money is for herself. I've never tipped her before, I guess I never thought about it.   |
I never really thought about it before, but also, I've never found a groomer that I was happy with an repeatedly went to. I've found the average price in my area is $35, give or take. I took Alphy today and they also clipped Abby's nails (a challenge and they were great), it was $35 for the cut and $5 for then nails. I gave her $50 total because they are way nice and I know he got tons of personal attention. I would pick them over Petsmart any day. :D :animal36 I am way under tipping my hairdresser though based on what you guys said. But again, I think it's because I don't have a regular one that I use. Still looking. :( |

Just a few thoughts on tipping your groomer...it's not really important how much you tip. I have received $1 tips and $40 tips. (even more around the holidays). One lady brought me the best warm from the oven chocolate chip cookie ever. One cookie, on a napkin, and it was sooo delicious! Another lady brought a tray of sandwiches. Another brought an assortment of energy drinks. One day after a little dog bit me the owner brought me a card with an apology note signed with the dogs name and a gift certificate for breakfast at the restaurant next door. Don't feel like you have to be a big tipper. If you don't want to tip, that's ok too. However, would you ever not tip your hairstylist? Does your hairstylist trim your nails, trim your entire body (not just your head), clean cling-ons from your tush, express your anal glands, trim your 'bikini' area, remove goop from the corners of your eyes and clean out your ears? Have you ever bitten your hairstylist or maybe just threatened to. Does your hairstylist have to worry about injuring you or herself because you are wiggling with excitement the entire time she works on you? Has your hairstylist had to clean her chair after you leave because you had a little 'accident'? I hope this isn't coming off in a negative way. Just making a point that dog grooming is not an easy profession. Is also not a generally a very high paying profession. Most dog groomers do it because they generally love dogs and can't imagine doing anything else. So, well, yes...If you are happy with the groom you should tip your groomer (regardless of whether she is in a salon or mobile or self employed). |
What about a Christmas bonus??? My hubby told me to give my hair dresser a 50.00 Christmas gift so i did... she has done my hair monthly for many years. We give out bonus for the mik man, the paper boy, my husbands workers, our pastor, so why not the groomer??? I will... Merry Christmas!!! |
I bribe my groomer! :D When I drop Jazzie off, I bring either some sweets or coffee. I figure they will appeciate it and most groomers I've known don't have time to eat. When I pick-up Jazzie I usually tip about $10.00 - on a $45.00 bill. Jazzie only goes to the goomer 2 or 3 times a year but they ALWAYS remember her when I call to make an appointment and they recgnoize her when I walk in. This year I just bought a 100 holiday bow package (from PetEdge) to give her for an early Christmas present so she has 100 less bows to make. |
I tip my groomer. I give my hairstylist a tip, so I figure is all in the same general area. I also realize that she has to carefully cut and trim both Kona and Bernie who sometimes have a difficult time staying still. |
I pay about $70 to have Max and Abbie groomed but I give their groomer a $10 tip because she does such a fabulous job with them that I want to give her something--even if it's something small. I usually give her $25 around the holidays. |
You ladies are doing a great job, even if a groomer has her own van there are expenses, first Taxes , if she is honest then supplies and maintainance on the van and equipment , educational seminars, Insurance and the list can go on. So again if you are happy with your groomer and you can afford to give her a bit more , she will like it.:D Debbie Ray |
