Okay -- I even brought pictures
 

I don't know if anyone remembers my post from a couple days ago asking for pictures, lol.

Well I printed out some pictures of cute puppy cuts. I took Rhapsody into Petsmart to be groomed. I knew she had some matting on her back and tummy where her dresses fastens.

These mats have only showed up in the past week. I couldn't get the mats out, and I certainly didn't want to give her bath till the mats were either combed or cut out. So I figure, heck, I'll just take her in to be groomed and save me the time it'd take to work on her. Also Petsmart's puppy package including trim is only $15.00.

First the lady tells me the mats are soooo bad, which they aren't, and the reason is because I bathed her with mats in. I told her no, that these mats just showed up. . . explained the dresses . . . and also told her Rhapsody has a cottony coat. She just looked at me like 'yeah right'; and said you have to brush her out every day. I do brush her everyday. . . that's how I know there are mats, because the past few days have been impossible and painful when I've been brushing her. Again she looked at me like I was lying. . . So I pointed out that her tail, legs, and her body that the dress isn't on there were no mats. . .

Needless to say, she said she'd have to cut her very, very short. I agreed to do the body short (it would be covered by the dresses, and would be more comfortable for Rhapsody this summer). I told her to trim and shape her legs, tail, head and face. (And of course cut her bottom short to help her potty). Now at this point she tells me that because of what she has to cut the body so short it won't be 14.99, but $39.00. I look at her like she's crazy, because this is the price they charge for a huge dog to be completely shaved. I said that's ridiculous because we are talking about a 2.5lb puppy. I can understand it being $10.00 more, but $24.00 more, no way.

At this point I should have followed my instinct, took Rhapsody and left. But after considering it (and thinking that Rhapsody needed a bath, and I had to have those mats gone before then, also thinking about it being easter weekend with pictures and stuff). I agree.

I was so horrified when I picked Rhapsody up -- they completely shaved her except her face, and tip of tail!!! I actually started crying when I showed her to my mom and hubby. Sigh, I think I'm going to get a couple grooming videos, and start learning to this myself. I don't think I can take another like this, lol.

Of course by the end of the evening I was laughing about it, and turning it into a good thing. Still, always follow gut instinct -- I should have just took Rhapsody home, and called around!!!

She is a doll....even after her haircut!! Don't feel bad, when we first got Magic I didn't know anything and took her up Petco for a bath and haircut and she came back the exact same way!! But it grew out and we quickly learned her lesson.....

Lol, thanks everyone! And yeah, I've only taken the dress off for the picture, and to show my family, lol.

My dad, when he first saw her, just started laughing till there were tears coming from his eyes, poor little girl, lol. She also looks so small now; hair really bulks them up!

Well, at least now you can really see her the structure of your little lion w/o having to just feel it! She's nakes, go throw some clothes on that cutie!
I can imagine your horrified state when you picked her up, I would've had them call the manager and not pay the full amount! imo You asked for a certain service and you didn't get it. *grr*

I would have been royally pi^^&%!!!!!!!!! But she is still precious and will really be cute with her dresses to cover her naked butt as my granddaughter says.

Did you actually pay for that? I don't believe I would have. I'd have said so sue me. I even brought pictures. You could have done that cut yourself.

Well it looks like Rhapsody is going to get a whole new summer wardrobe. LOL

She's still adorable though, but I understand how you feel! Sounds like you're able to laugh about it now, good for you! I was upset for about a week when we had our bad "groomer experience".

That is a "strip". Looks like a 7 blade. Pretty much what you do if the dog is completely matted...to the skin. Definitely not appropriate if your little pups legs were not matted. Even if her body was matted there is no reason they couldn't blend out to larger legs which would have been really cute. Unfortunately strips are pretty much the norm at Petsmart and Petco. Every time I am in one of those stores the only dogs I see comming out of the grooming salons are stripped. You're probably lucky they left a cute round face. I would have been furious! I hope you let them know how you felt about it. The least they should have done is drop the price back to the $14.99 or offer a free groom in the future (not that you would want to go back). As far as the price goes, I would have to say that a full haircut on a 2 1/2 lb puppy can be more difficult than a full haircut on a full grown 25 lb dog so expecting to pay only $14.99 would have been out of line. I think the puppy package prices are for pretty basic grooming with pads, sanitary, face...but not body, mostly just to get the puppy used to grooming.

It will take a while for the fur to grow back but it will eventually. Thats the beauty of hair/fur. It always grows back. In the mean time you get a break from brushing.

They didn't "groom" her, they shaved her. Any idiot could do that! But, she still looks cute. But don't you hate when pay for something and it comes out the wrong way. :rolleyes:

She still is very pretty! You can always put a shirt on her and you would never notice!

She is still very pretty, naked thou. I bet she is getting a new wardrobe, and now with the summer around the corner you will feel more comfortable. Her hair wil grow back soon.

I am glad you are not upset too much about it all. the hair does grow back. besides that, you are more in love with her and not her hair ...right?
I have only had Buckeye groomed once. that did it for me. Yorkies are beautify any way they come. IMO :aimeeyork

:thumbdown oh my.....you must be the nicest person in the world, because I would have been so upset! They would have to call the police and drag me out of the store, because I would be yelling at everyone. It is true, she is adorable no matter what. Still... :thumbdown to that groomer!

When she need groomed again do try it yourself its not as difficult as you think it will be and im sure you'd do a better job than they've done :rolleyes:

I would have been so mad! I mean your baby is still super cute and I know you will still love her either way, but I know that they didn't need to take such drastic measures in shaving her entire body. Oh well, her hair will grow back so I guess it can't be too bad. :p

Thanks everyone! Ya'll are so great! I'm almost positive that woman did that to Rhapsody because of my reaction in the difference that they said they were going to charge me. . .

I just got off the phone with the district manager. . . and I'm happy to say that I'm getting a full refund and I got an apology.

I didn't expect that, and I'm very happy that Petsmart took responsibility for what had happened! Very professional!!!!

I on the other hand would have cried and cried
keep clothing on her and make sure she doesn't go out in the sun without clothing you don't want her getting a sunburn. She is still a cutie.

But believe me, they're not the only ones that do it!! "They" all say it's better for the pup. It's kinder to the pup. When actually, IMHO it's only better, less time consuming, and a whole lot easier for THEM!!! (the people!). I had the same thing happen to me and it was done by somebody I've been using for 3-4 years!! Mine had hair on the top of his head that went down about half way to his butt. When she got done with him, he loked like she put a bowl on the top of his head and cut around the base of it!! Needless to say, I was miffed! She shaved his enire body down to skin!! Poor guy. Talk about nekked!! He loked like a hairless----something or other!! It's been over 6 months now and it is just now starting to look like he HAS hair! He's still got the bowl look. Dont know how I'll ever get THAT fixed. Yes it will grow back, yes I still love him. But even HE was embarrassed when someone saw him. Thank goodness it was cold out then. He loves sweaters and clothes, so it was easy to cover him up. But she'll never do him again!!

Just give her 2 weeks, and she'll be perfect. I hate getting Emma (my maltese) cut to because they make her look like a poodle, but 2-3 weeks later she looks just perfect!! Don't be sad! :)

OMG HOW FREAKING CUTE ! oh no...I know they cut short but it WILL GROW back and how cute is that lol - Chanel had the SAME thing done by a groomer - I think it's a yorkie MUST to have a bad haircut lol - poor baby - she'll really need her dresses now and no knots !!

I showed my husband the b4 and after photos and he said she is still a cutie pie but he would be pissed.

We need to get updated picts of her, i am sure the hair will grow back in no time

Man oh man...what a total difference! She's darling either way, but how disappointing for you and I don't blame you for crying...I would have too. It makes me mad when groomers do this. There is really no reason for it and I think it's probably laziness on their part...easier to just shave it all off and get on to the next dog! I'm glad you got a refund, but I think they should have also given you a gift certificate or something. Little Rhapsody is cute, even nekked...and thank goodness it will grow back. She must look sooooo very tiny now!!!
