HMMM well.... as much as you guys are mentioning all these great shampoos and conditioners you can order.....
I have nEVER found anything i like better for a conditioner the AUSSIE 3 minute miracle. I tried all the expensive special dog stuff everyone rave about but found nothing i liked better then this. It's made for humans and you can get it most everywhere including Target ot the grocery stores. It's usually around 3 bucks a bottle and has NEVER dried my babies out at all and always left them soft , shiney and looking great.

AND...LOL It does wonders for human hair too if you don't like it for your dogs...LOL

The main thing is leave it on for the 3 minutes. Leaving it on 3 nimutes makes it work WAY better then on and off:thumbup:

I just used this on Sonny today. WOW! What a difference. I did the 3 minute thing too. I have to say the one product I won't stray from is THERMASILK LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER (DETANGLER) SPRAY. I bath my friend's yorkie from time to time and she waits until he is all matted up with sticks in his hair and I use this on his matts and they slide right out. The only reason my friend's yorkie has a long coat is because she's too lazy to do anything with it. LOL! He's pretty though.

What a good friend you are !! That's really nice of you and this is good to know ...lots of us have these products already in our bathrooms - I thought I did ...but didn't ...but I USED to

  did I confuse anyone with that last statement ? Well..I confused ME with it lol

Yorkease 07-10-2006 05:30 PM

Villette, you should know-I STAY confused! LOL! Embarrassingly so, I might add. I am glad this thread was started. I've been writing down products to look for and try. So, THANK YOU VILLETTE and everyone else who contributed. My dogs probably will thank you too.

yorkieangel 07-10-2006 05:48 PM

YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
So glad somebody tried the Aussie 3 minute and said WOW.
I knew I wasn't imagining it:p
How can you beat $3 a bottle... and it actuallty is LESS when it's on sale at Target....it's like $2.50 a bottle then.:)

Zoey's Momma 07-10-2006 05:49 PM

I love using EarthBath on my babies. :)

Okay I know this is a post what you use thread but I would like to ask for suggestions instead, hope this is okay!

I currently use CC daily on my little guy and the ice on ice and the baby detangler BUT......I am still noticing him being an itchy man. He scratches a lot and I do not know why. I have read corn is bad so I have cut out all the products I was feeding him that had that and I know he has no fleas. So..... with that said and way too many products on this thread to try can anyone suggest another shampoo and conditioner that I may try that would help with his itching? Since this is my first Yorkie or pet for that matter - I am not sure what his coat is like. I would say it is very soft and silky and tends to get a bit greasy on weeks end. We give him a bath about once a week. Here is a picture so you can see his coat – maybe this would help you help me – LOL! Thanks!

Oh is he cute !! and being an itchy little yorkie boy is no fun....have you tried oatmeal shampoo ? Are you rinsing really well ?

What I would do is stop the Ice on Ice and see how he does with only shampoo and conditioner - and rinse REALLY well - I've now been using the CC shampoo for a long time now and my girls never itch on it....It MAY be the Ice on Ice......and if he doesn't stop itching - look into a good oatmeal shampoo.....

I didn't want to post this as a total solution for itching - but When Chanel used to play in the water everyday a few summers ago she got REALLY itchy - I got This from Petsmart - and sprayed it on and she stopped itching completely within 24 hours - turned out to be dry skin

it's called 'Veternarians Best Moisture Mist SKIN Conditioner' - you spray it on lightly and rub it into the skin - it really worked for Chanel and only cost 8 bucks...she has never scratched since - if I see her just scratching a tiny bit - I just spray some on her - it smells great and is a SKIN Conditioner - not a hair conditioner

just something else to try if you get no relief for your little guy - GOOD LUCK

Thank you so much for your advice!! Yes I do make sure I am rinsing him really well becasue that is the first thing I thought of. I will try not using the ice on ice and pick up a bottle of the "Veternarians Best". I ahve heard about the oatmeal stuff as well so I could give that a try if I see no results. Thanks again! I did not mean to steal your thread with this.

You didn't steal this thread LOL !! This is why it's here - I wanted to give everyone a chance to share AND post questions too - Your question was a good one - We see itchy yorkies often and hopefully thru the people who respond we can find them some relief

I'd love to hear from others who found products that help with the itchies....I remember seeing Chanel the year she was scratching and I felt terrible seeing her like that. I hope the Moisture Mist helps you !! I can't promise the same results but it helped MY itchy girl. But remember -it's for skin not hair - I didn't see any softness in Chanel even though it said on the bottle lol - but she sure did stop scratching quick.

Bathing

Am I committing a serious faux paux?? I bathe my little 13 wk old Yorkie pup about twice a week. May have even done it more if he got his hiney dirty. Is this bad? Thanks,
Donna

yorkieangel 07-19-2006 04:16 AM

HMMM well if you are then I am ... because we usually do about 2 baths a week here too:p My pup does not itch or flake from it so i am assuming it is Fine:D

Hickey007 07-19-2006 05:58 AM

Itchies - I use groomax soothing oatmeal shampoo for the itchies. You can get it at Petsmart. I usually use it with a good quality conditioner and it works great. It actually leaves Reagan feeling silkier than some of the other more expensive products I use. And it works great on Reagan for her itchies. I don't use it all the time just when she's been scratching a lot. It says to lather it up and work it into the coat/skin for a couple minutes, to actually penetrate the coat and get to the skin.

I used to bathe Reagan 1-2 a week. I don't believe she ever got dry skin from it and her coat always looked fine. With yours being that young you might find as he/she gets older you won't have to give as many baths, maybe not though. We only give Reagan 1 bath every week to week and a half now. She just stays cleaner for some reason. I think as long as the skin isn't drying out and the coat looks healthy you are fine.

And while we are on the subject of leave in conditioners, I love infusium23 frizz control. Its a human product and fairly cheap too. If you buy it though go ahead and pick up a spray bottle because its a liquid and comes in a bottle that doesn't have a sprayer. I give Reagan a couple sprays before I start to brush and dry her off and it seems so much easier to brush her.

Thanks! I am going to go get some of the "Groomax soothing oatmeal shampoo" and try it. I have recently switched Murphy from Eagle pack food to Chicken soup and I think that has helped too.

VILLETTE...What is your ABSOLUTE FAVORITE shampoo, conditioner and finishing spray? I know you've tried just about everything. If YOU haven't tried it...it's probably because it hasn't been made yet. just kidding. :D Seriously, what the ones you had the most luck with of Shampoo, conditioner and finishing spray? Please clue me in because there are so many products here that I couldn't possibly try them all. Thanks for your help.

favorite products

Thanks for all of the great information.. but I would like to know also, what products seem to be the best for each type of hair.

Thick and cottony

Thin and dry looking ( Reese's coat )

Thick and dry

Thin and silky

Thick and silky

I need to order products today and every time I am convinced that I should order a particular product, I read another post and change my mind.

In my case I would love to know what is the best shampoo, conditioner, finishing spray or leave in treatment, and serum or oil for a thin and dull longer coat.

Thank you.. great thread

I'm sorry girl - I just now saw this. For Chanel - who is Cotton Coated and has thick long hair - the CC Systems by far is the best on her. I use that and alternate between the Ice on Ice and Sea Breeze Oil by Plush puppy

Cheri is silky - I like the Plush Puppy on her but the CC also works. With her hair - I use a conditioner and a very tiny tiny amount of Ice or the Oil. When (Dawn) was selling Vitacoat - that Rocked for making Cheri's hair shiny.

and momofreese...At the beginning of this thread - I think we were offering products for types of hair. I wish I could help you - but maybe someone will post that has those hair types....

Reagan has a thin coat and its down to her knees I guess. She's never had a dry coat though, but I don't know it may be because of what I'm using or have used. Anyway I used to use the plush puppy products, shampoo and conditioner and swishy coat gel. After about 6 months of using it she had her first trip to the groomers. He said her coat and skin looking great and keep doing what I was doing. Oh I also spray on a leave-in conditioner too, usually human type nothing particular, its just to help me brush her out after she gets out of the bath, right not I'm using Infusium anti-frizz.

Since then I've tried Shea Pet products and Pet Silk. I really like the pet silk, shampoo and conditioner. She hasn't been back to the groomers since switching so I don't have a professional opinion but her coat doesn't look dry. Really the main difference I've seen between this and Plush Puppy is that PP didn't leave her as silky as the Pet Silk does. Now I still use PP's swishy coat and I also use the silk serum(I believe that's what its called) from Pet Silk. I think maybe the PP products left her coat a little fuller and less thin, but there was that trade off, for us, it may leave her a little thicker but Pet Silk left her silkier.

I haven't used CC products so I don't know how they would do, they may be better or worse. I've heard so much about them but haven't gotten the urge to use them yet, someday I'm sure it will hit me.

I loved this forum

Hi!

Thank you all for your great inputs! I just joined the forum.
I live in Brazil, so it's very hard to get what you folks are suggesting, except for the Aussie 3 minute (which is about USD $10.00 here). Can you immagine we don't even have the No More Tangles line from Johnson's?
I'm so going to try the Aussie product!

I've seen on youtube a fuss around the MD10 shampoo/conditioners, but the price with the shipping to Brazil is absurd. Has anyone tried it? Does it sell in the US (and where)?

Oh, has anyone tried going low poo on the yorkies?

Lots of love and licks! :) :aimeeyork

Great reviews! May I ask on your thoughts of a good shampoo and conditioner and a detangler for my baby Yoshi she is a silky with fine hair.
