Dreadful Bangs!!! 4 Attachment(s) What to do... what to do... Ok so lately Jackson's hair has got major bangs going on. I LOVE his groomer, but I almost think every time she maybe cuts 'em a little shorter... or something... but He looks GREAT right after being groomed but after a few weeks, those bangs start to grow down and make him look like the Grouch LoL. I don't recall them ever doing that, even when his hair would grow out longer than I like to keep it in the past, so I looked at a few older pics. Here was from his previous groomer right after a haircut.. he was about 1 in this pic. Attachment 371511 This is how it looks when I used to let it get a bit longer Attachment 371513 This is how the new groomer styles it and how it looks right after a groom: Attachment 371515 This is how it now looks when it starts to grows out... Bangs galore!! Attachment 371514 So there's the problem... I really like how he looks right after a groom but then it only takes a few weeks for those bangs to grow out like that. What do you think she is doing different than the other groomer? I much prefer our current one in everything else she does. Should I trim the bangs myself, or attempt to let them grow? I really hate them in his eyes like that last picture... so I am just not sure what to do. We don't do topknots here. |
Dippity-Doo. or: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...s-anymore.html Haha! Just remembered... you are not old...Dippity-Doo was hair gell I think they still make it for people... I used it when I was younger than you are now! |
^ Lol... yeah no idea what that is!! Sooo let 'em grow, or cut 'em?! I dunno what to do... |
Looks like a sun visor! |
Well, if you want them to be like the other groom use to do...you will have to let them grow. I agree, the current groomer is cut them in a visor. If you want to stay with the visor look you will have to learn to trim them yourself in between the groomers cut. If you do let them grow out, definitely take the long bang picture to show your current groomer, heck, let her keep it...but be firm you don't want to go through this growing out stage again. |
LOL...he's adorable ;) |
I'd just get the new groomer to go with the longer ones as it lets his pretty eyes show longer after the groom. Once you do cut those bangs short enough, you do have to keep it up. Either way he looks cute to me so you can't go wrong but just what you prefer. |
If you don't to topknots, then cut'em ;) It's very difficult to keep a topknot clean, non-matted, and not in the way. I put 6-8 latex bands in Fido's hair every day to keep it clean :P and it's hard work.. It's the only way it can grow out, to put so many bands in. I'd cut them yourself, the bangs, if you are not a topknot person. |
I can't tell from the pictures, were Jackson's bangs longer in the past? Is that why they went to the sides rather than creating a visor? I would try combing daily to the sides to try to train the hair back the way it was. I wrestled with the visor look when Max was pup, when I couldn't decide if we were going to do puppy cut or full coat. The visor does make the face look more serious. :) |

Is there some product I could maybe put in his hair - that's not greasy looking, so I can start 'training' it to go to the sides? I guess more like a middle part vs. bangs! LOL. I may have to cut them this week though. We're going away this weekend and I'm not sure I want to deal with his hair and bangs in front of his eyes, he always looks so silly, lol. So I may trim it up one last time and then start growing it out. |

1 Attachment(s) Yeah, I agree when the bangs start to grow out it looks a little weird. What if it were cut 1/2 inch or so on the top part of the head? Before I grew out Joey's topknot, I just held the hair where the topknot would go, and just chopped it off, it came out pretty good. |
I love Jackson in the first picture. I bet if you just show your groomer the photo she'll know what to do. Quote:

Just comb down his hair/visor part over the front of his face, & whatever is hanging out, cut it. If you want to trim the top, comb up his hair & hold it w/your index & middle finger (his hair will look like a mohawk). Whatever is hanging from the top of your index & 3rd finger & you like the length, cut it.:D |
I say trim them yourself In between grooming. He is a handsome boy either way |

I dunno either way, I think I definitely want to try to get them to go back to the sides a bit and not just be so straight across. This was the first cut that our current groomer did on Jackson and my favorite that she ever did. Attachment 371666 It seems just more like like a middle part to me. I better leave any cutting to the professionals tho, I am seriously stupid when it comes to anything like that. The most I can do is trim the hair from poking him in the eyes lol. |

I would try to trim it up a bit. Brody had an intense visor cut after his first grooming session. I was TERRIFIED of trimming it.. but I did and I was so relieved. It's still not perfect, and I still have some more trimming to do, but Brody doesn't look as ridiculous anymore! |
To me it looks like the previous groomer clipped further up the head and thinned the area much more. Your new groomer is doing a visor cut and that is why you are getting the bangs. I would take that picture of him with the way the other groomer did it to your new groomer and ask her to do that. Tell her you don't like the visor cut because he ends up with hair in his eyes very quickly. He is such a handsome guy I would want those beautiful eyes showing, too. I really don't care for the visor look either. My groomer does it on a lot of her Shih Tzu clients and it just looks unnatural to me. In the photo of his other duo you can tell that the fur is thinned and much shorter above his eyes. Very stylish. I don't think you can get the same look with scissors. It is done with electric clippers. |
Brit, Jackson is such a handsome guy no matter what. I would say that you will have to trim between grooms yourself if you want to keep his bangs short. It't not hard and remember, it's just hair, it will grow back. lol |
1 Attachment(s) i have a growing out bangs pic to share for your groomer if you like. took this one of Brewie just the other day. it's the longest he has ever been. my dad calls him Ringo now  |
I think he looks very cute with his bangs :) |

They actually are growing up a bit since this thread... they're not SO straight down in his face and seem to be gravitating more towards the sides on most days. I've been combing them that way and even when I'm petting him, I just guide them that way with my hands so I think I'm training the bangs LoL... I'm going to let the groomer know next time he sees her that I worked hard on growing them out, and will request not such a blunt cut. Here's a photo of him from two days ago (granted, the wind was kind of blowing them upwards) but you can see how they've grown and are starting to either be pushed backwards or to the sides. |
awww WOW he looks awesome! his hair is growing out nicely. His hair grows soo much faster it seems then Brew's! you know when we first started growing Brews hair out from his puppy cut our groomer did cut a bit of a visor just at the very very front of the bangs. it kind of gave the other hair a jumping off point so that the hairs didn't fall down into his eyes. kind of like a crashing wave :p Jacksons hair seems pretty thick though - so he may not even need it. anyway looks like you don't need my help - he looks great!!! :D |
1 Attachment(s) Still in the annoying growing out stage.... I really wanna get the hair out of his eyes, but trying to be patient. I still am going to keep his face somewhat short, but just don't want the visor cut. I'm going to let the groomer know... it's been about 8ish weeks since she's last seen him, and he's going to need to see her again soon. Here is where he was at last week: Attachment 373387 They almost seem like they are ready to be pushed back or combed to the side lol. |
hehehe he looks so much like my "little" Brew. what a cutie. |
My kids, both in their 40's, still laugh when they talk about the "Buster Brown Haircut" I used to give them between haircuts. Looked like a stuck a bowl on their heads and just cut....ROFL!! Louise :D |
