My Yorkie Hair is very short and isn't growing 4 Attachment(s) I have a 15week old girl yorkie(3months) who name is Chloe. I recieved her sometime in febuary born Jan.10th .Everysince I had her,her hair has not grown. I recently took her to the groom and they use Oatmeal shampoo and conditioner. Can anyone tell me why her hair isn't growing?? Here are some pictures of her to help out thank you! I really need to know why my yorkie doesn't look like the rest of them. |
How long would you expect her hair to be? She's still a puppy give it time. Is she a purebred Yorkie? If she's mixed with something else her hair growth may take after that breed. |
i don't wont it to be to long...about a reg. coat after it has been cut type basically..i guess around 31/2 inches would be nice i believe...and yes she is purebred...but i believe she's not mixed with anything.so how long do you it should take? |
She isn't mix with anything im sure of ...purebred...and reg.legth..not long but not short either...her length now to me is really short |
I am going to be honest here, but she seems to look like possibly a chi/yorkie mix. I could very well be wrong but my first impression was that she was a mix. Nonetheless, she is cute as a button! What food are you feeding? |
from my papers and eerything else they said no mix full yorkie...so i thought maybe it will just take for her to grow her hair...the hair seems to be now growing around the face area but not the body.she has more than when she was only 8weeks ... I'm feeding her Puppy chow..but also I believe with me taking her a bath every other day was drying out her coat and that might be the problem..am i correct? Because when she came bk from the groomer she lookd and felt very soft and like a yorkie. |
You should consider a better food. Yeah dont bathe but once a.week and as needed only. |

I hate to say this ...But I agree. She looks of some mix to me. Possibly Yorkie/Poodle mix. I know a women who got a "full blooded" Yorkie with papers from a pet store who to this day his hair never grew out either. She brought him to my home to ask my opinion and my first impression of him was Chi mix. He was very leggy and had all the markings of a Chi. He strutted around with his tail fully erect all the time. Very uncaragtoristic of a Yorkie. I'm not trying to be mean here but that would be my opinion from the picture you posted I dont believe she is a full blooded Yorkie. |
She is cute alright, but I have to agree with another poster who said she looks like a mix. I would be willing to bet she is NOT a purebred yorkie. Her coloring is off, her face shape is off, the legs and body shape do not say yorkie -- I really think someone had a mating accident. Did the breeder breed other dogs besides yorkies? Maybe chihuahuas or another all black dog? If you paid full pure-bred price for this pup, I think you need to get a DNA test and make a complaint to get money refunded. Either one of her parents was not a yorkie at all, or was itself a yorkie mix. But none of this will take away from how lovable your pup will be or what a joy she will add to your family. I would still want to keep her and love her endlessly! |
she is very cute little puppy. And I do agree that she is not a pure bred one. She definately looks like she has Chi in her, just by her face and ears. Chi's have short hair. Unless this pups parents had a long haired chi. regardless, this is probably why your baby's hair is not growing. It might not ever grow, or if it does will be slowly, and not turn the regular colors a Yorkie will have. |
i'm sorry but i have to agree with the others and say that she does not look like a pure bred yorkie. where did you get her from and what "papers" does she have? is she AKC registered? |
i talk to the person i bought it from which was from a farm in Van Buren Ar. She told me her father was mixed with poodle but her mother was full breed. on the papers it say's AKC registered. I love my puppy dearly even if she's not full breed... but I would love for her hair to grow. It still has not grown since the last time i posted pictures on here . i thought it was maybe the food, the shampoo im using , or something. She loves to chase after birds and alot of other weird things. Also, very tall and playful. I don't know what to do because we don't have the money to go and get DNA check-up and more. |

but I'm really not sure about it, you guys says it's chi and the woman says poodle. But i looked it up on the internet and she looks like both. and i'm still not sure why her hair is so short. |
She deserves to receive the same unconditional love, acceptance & loyalty that she loves to give to you. She is cute as she can be & looks like she would be tons of fun. |
she really is, she is one fun, hyper, and loving puppy. Do anyone have an ideas of what i could do about her hair? sometimes it feels dry , i bought oatmeal shampoo |
I'd try bathing her just once a week. I also like that Tresamme anti-breakage conditioner. You'll find it in the people hair aisle at the store. It may not get as long as you'd like because genetically chi's & poodles have short hair, and she is probably mixed with one of those it sounds like. Even people's Yorkies who are not mixed sometimes have a hard time growing their hair long. Its way more work anyway. Just have fun with her. She looks like a fast runner! And a very happy smile. |
My dog is eating worms My dogs is eating worms , live ones and dried up ones on the sidewalk and in the grass. Is thia totally normal? I keep thinking something will happen if she keeps eating them, alot fo people say it's good for them but I dont know, somebody please tell me why is she doing this and is it good or bad? |

Like I said before, she is darling! Good luck |
Which is akc registered? The mom or your baby? She looks darling! |
okay! Now Chloe is rolling over the floor after I give her a bath ! she does this everytime now, she rolls and crawls, and slides across everything like something is wrong. sometimes i think its very funny but it worries me sometimes..lol she looks very retarded doing this, is this normal? Does every yorkie roll around like this after a bath ! |
Oh yes! I think that is very normal behavior for them. It is pretty funny to watch them go crazy isn't it. I guess they just feel good & fresh and are trying to dry off. |
No matter she is not purebred...unless you paid a purebred price. If she has AKC papers and not just her mother...you must report the breeder to AKC...this is fraud...but if she was honest and told you your pet is 3/4 Yorkie and 1/4 poodle then all is fair. |
Ohhh what a lovely dog !! Purebreed yorkie or not she's as cute as a dog can be :) ! It looks like she has wiry hair, I knew one schnauzer/silky terrier mix that had the same hairtype, she got long hair with the age but not very long, just the cairn terrier length a bit longer and it was a bit harsh to touch it (like on a wire haired dog). Propably she will get a little bit longer coat not much, you could maybe put bows, the girl i knew who owned the schnauzer/silky mix she could put bows in her :) |
My yorkie is purebred but her hair will not grow that well either. One reason why is because she has HORRIBLE allergies. She takes weekly allergy injections and is also on an RX to control her immunity to so many allergens. Her hair became brittle and she started pulling her hair out and chewing her feet and skin until she bled. It took them several test and finally we realized Pixie is allergic to multiple things, ranging from fleas to grass. The poor baby has been through the ringer. She stays on flea meds and we keep our yard sprayed, but well you know fleas on occasion if a flea gets on her and has the opportunity to crawl and worse if it bites before it dies she will itch for days. Our Vet said seeing/treating allergies are getting more and more common on small breed dogs because people are not allowing them to run and play outside to expose them to different allergens while they are young to build up antibodies against those very things that they later can not tolerate. We purchased her when she was 4 months old, her feet had never hit the ground to be walked so within 2 months of us having her and "walking" her, allowing her to play in the grass her allergies began. Also something else my vet informed me that we did not know at the time (nor did the breeder), but her dad was gold and chocolate, he was not the standard blue/gold color (very beautiful though). Apparently when mating a standard yorkie with a chocolate/gold can lead to a weakened immune system and can cause allergies which can also cause the "brittle hair". The reason I mention this is because your precious pups hair reminds me of how my yorkie had gotten at the beginning of us trying to figure out what was going on. After we began treatment for her allergies and she was put on meds for weakened immune system her hair became silky soft again and began growing. So if she gets itchy really easy you may want to have allergy test performed. Just thought I would share. Your baby is beautiful and man what a smile!! |

There is a lot of debate about non-standard dogs, but I don't recall anyone making the argument that chocolate yorkies have weakened immune systems. None of the chocolate yorkies here have any problems. |
My thoughts Quote:
I know you had dreams of long yorkie hair but think about it that way - less grooming for you !! :D long hair looks very nice on pictures, but it takes a lot of work to make it look that way! Enjoy your puppy and dont worry about her hair. |

I really agree with this post! If she were born Jan 10 and you got her sometime in Feb, this dog was probably only 6 weeks old, any breeder who would sell a 6 week old yorkie, would do lots of things that are against the rules. |
She is so cute! And she looks like she has a great personality, too, just enjoy her. One thing I want to add is that I seem to see a bump on her belly in the last pic. Please show it to you vet. It could be an umbilical hernia, or may be the remnants of a navel. |
