Bathing Every 4 days? I bathe Kaji every Sunday. I'm wondering if it's ok to bathe him more frequently like show pups do. I know the frequent bathing is to help the pups grow out a gorgeous coat. I think more frequent baths would help with my allergies. People (not on YT) have suggested that I just "get rid" of my pup. Uh... not going to happen. When I accepted him, I made a promise to love and care for him for the rest of his life. Does anyone know if this will help? |
I am bumping it up but I bathe Natalie and Charlie once a week. If they smell, they get it more often. It has never bothered them. |
There was a time or two I had to bathe my last yorkie days after her regular bathtime due to mud or her getting into stuff, but I've never bathed a pup that frequently on a regular basis. You'd probably have to use a very mild shampoo, and use conditioner to stop drying out the skin...and rinse, rinse, rinse. I just talked with my vet this evening about bathing & shampoos and he said the biggest thing people do wrong is not rinsing enough and leaving residue on the coat & skin, which dries it out. |
I've done it on occasion as well, but I want to do it on a more consistent basis. I've been doing well for over a year, but recently I've been having trouble breathing at night. Kaji likes to sleep right under my nose sometimes. |
What is it exactly that you are allergic to? is it him or the dust/pollen/dirt/dander that hangs on his coat? Since you say this is a more recent problem I'm thinking it might be outside allergies like different pollens that are clinging to his coat. Have you tried wiping him down at night before letting him on your bed? instead of a full bath you could do a sponge bath of sorts. If you want to bathe him more often you can but just make sure you use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner to take care of his coat. Personally I love Chris Christensen products. They have the Day to Day Moisturizing Shampoo and Day to Day Moisturizing Conditioner as well as their new Spectrum 10 line which I can currently using on Morgan and just LOVE. |
Rats! I wrote a long-ish response and now it's gone. :( Anyway, Kaji and Morgan have those lovely soft coats. I think Kaji gets more dander and dust caught in his hair. I doubt it's seasonal allergies. I have allergic reactions all year long. Kaji also does not spend time outside. (he use to get 5 walks a day vs his 0 walks now) When I first had him, I was having some issues. I also bathed him more frequently since he had potty accidents back then. He would get soaked in pee sometimes. He also sleeps right under my nose sometimes. It's a new behavior he's doing. I don't have the heart to have him move. |
My youngest son has had all sorts of allergies from when he was a toddler. Not only does he have certain types of food allergies (which he seems to be outgrowing - or chosing not to eat), but he's also allergic to every type of outdoor spore - especially Oak, all grasses, mold. He has always used an inhaler when playing sports (soccer is his thing). Well, last year we decided to try an acupuncturist. After 7 sessions - he no longer needs to use his inhaler and he breathes much easier. The acupuncturist said that he may need follow ups every 6 months or so - but so far haven't needed them. Its holistic - no more medications. I hope you consider it - it may help you too. |

I'm not sure how long you keep Kaji's coat but for your allergies, the shorter the better. This way he won't collect a lot of stuff in his coat and it will be easier to wipe down with a baby wipe or damp wash cloth at night. Also, if he's kept really short you can even try a soft boar bristle brush to clean the coat with (Boar & Brass Brushes). the brass removes dead hair and dander and the boar hair polishes the coat. |

This was during the winter, and their skin never showed any adverse affects. Using the hairdryer with heat that often did take a slight toll on their coats. I switched back and forth between Biogroom and Coat Handler, which is mild, so that may have made a difference. |
I bathe my babies every week with week with Fresh n Clean made by Lambert Kay. It smells wonderful and they look beautiful. We first found it at PetSmart but stopped carrying it so now we buy it on line. I would like to know what other people use to bathe their heads with ?????? I use baby shampoo and not to crazy about it. |

I totally get it, because I don't have the heart either :D and so I sleep like a pretzel at the edge of the bed with Nini's back right up against my face and Nicky between my legs using the back of my knee as a pillow. Hb developed allergies and we thought Yorkies were hypoallergenic? So he moved to the guest bedroom---didn't make a difference, the fur-kids followed :wub: He's now taking allergy meds. because he doesn't have the heart to have the babies move either. |
