If you go to bathing ever 4 days...you need to be very aware of his skin....make sure there is no flaking....

I bathe mine every 2 weeks or more often if needed. I was afraid of washing oil out of heir coats. But I really don't know if that is true. I use the Lambert Kay Fresh and clean and Pet silk too. Petco carries the Lamber Kay now.

Some people use a tearless shampoo on their heads. I usually just use the same shampoo i use on their body. I am careful not to get it in their eyes. Never had any issues.

The reason I've used tearless baby shampoo on their heads is because I thought I read somewhere on the bottle not to get shampoo in their eyes. Now I'm looking at the bottle and can't find that statement anywhere on it:confused:. Both my girls wiggle a lot when trying to wash the hair on their heads and it always gets in their eyes. What to do :animal36 ?????? How do you know if it burns their eyes??? Until I took Abby to a groomer she loved her bath time, but not now. Of course we have only had Penny a couple of months, but she doesn't care for bath time either. Sad....but afterwards they are so happy:). I let them air dry after I've held them for a while to let the towel absorb some of the water.

With all your help I might turn out to be a better mom to my girls....

I use baby shampoo all over my Bentley's body and head. But now he's got dry skin (only actually used it twice on him). We were using old shampoo that was puppy tearless shampoo. I think we may need to get a better shampoo or at least a good conditioner for him as he now has dry skin. Not sure why though. Maybe I'm not feeding enough fats/oils? (He's just recently switched to a home-cooked diet). I will try adding olive oil to his meals. That should help.

I'm not big on using expensive shampoo. BUT I've never tried expensive shampoo on him. Who knows, maybe it'll make a huge difference.

The baby shampoo most likely dried out his skin because it is not formulated for dogs. Also you may not have rinsed it all out completely. You can get Espree or Biogroom from Petco. I like espree and have a bunch of different kinds so I can switch up the scents when i want.

I use Yorkie Splash and Shine on my boys and use it all over, I've never had a problem with their eyes getting irritated, I bath them once a week as well.

Baby Shampoo is the worst for drying out coats....

What about just rinsing Kaji with clear water every couple of days rather than giving him a full bath. That would still knock out the dander, dust etc. But you wouldn't be running the risk of drying his skin (and hair) with frequent shampooing.

Baby shampoo is terrible, even for babies! If you are battling dry skin, make sure you are rinsing him completely. Often times, it's left over shampoo that dries the skin out.

Thank you:) I'll try Fluffy Puppy;). The babie shampoo just wasn't right for my babies.

:thumbup: Yes it is very drying for coats.

I like to use Spa Fresh Facial Scrub to bathe their faces. It's gentle, safe to use even on puppies, and smells so clean, and...well...FRESH:)

A vet at Banfield recommend I use Baby shampoo on Uni.....
