Gross question...How do you clean your yorkie's butt? I want to know how the rest of you clean your yorkie's butt after they make poop. When my yorkie is done doing his business, I'll put him in the tub and just wash his butt. I tried using baby wipes for awhile, but I felt like that wasn't enough to make him clean. he sleeps on my bed so I want to make sure he's totally clean. how do you all do it? |
I shave her bum once a week to avoid the mess  |
When Fiona was younger ( she is almost a year old! oh jeez! ) I would just wash her butt off in the tub, i recently cut her hair a little bit shorter, and noticed that she no longer gets as dirty, i usually will shave her anus area too, so it clean and hair free, and that way her poopie doesnt stick to her butt! |

I shave their backside as well so there is no mess after doing their business. I use the little mustache clipper on my older yorkie and scissors on my little one because she does not like the clipper noise yet. If they do get some stuck on them, I do put their little butt in the tub or sink and wash it off. |

I agree with the others, a good grooming should take care of the problem, unless your baby has diarrhea/or loose stools...in that case, a hinney wash is indicated. |
I stick Bailey in the sink, butt first under the faucet and she sits there and lets me was her butt. At first she hated it but now I think she likes it. She hates poopy butt. It is very quick by just washing her hind end. If it is going to happen it will happen at her 4 am potty trip. I am not about to do a full blown bath then...lol. |

If i didnt shave her once a week, she would be getting bum baths several times a day  |
Ditto to all of the above. If you are home grooming or professional groomer, a good cut is definately a fantastic start! One of my boys is just fine without a hinny shave and the other needs to be kept short back there or we have dingle berries and butt washes. |
For Bailey, its a butt trim and butt wipes. If she has a loose stool - then its a butt bath.....but, that's just us. :) |
My li'l one's bottom is always kept short and on those rare occasions when she does get those cling ons....I will bath her bottom in the sink..I do keep her back side short/shaved so that we don't have many of those episodes anymore:animal36 |
Isnt it funny how posts like these remind you to shave your furbabys bum  |
Mine are still young. I keep baby wipes handy to wipe their bottoms. :D |
omg i feel so dumb. i didn't know shaving the anus area is a popular practice to keep their bums clean. i will have to start doing this. it is very messy when poop gets stuck to their hair and hard to clean too. i'm glad i asked this question. thanks everyone! |
I don't shave that area but I have some small scissors and I cut around that area. I always heard don't shave because then you end up with a baboon butt! :D |
I shave all of their booties :) |
I just put them in the sink when they get poo on there butt. :p |
I am being totally serious~do you all really have that many problems with their little behinds? I have 3 and a foster and never even think about their butts after they go poop. They go to the groomer about every 6 weeks and get a bath once a week. I never have to put them into the sink for a butt bath. Could it be the food that they are eating that is making the poop too loose that it sticks to their fur? |

i am easily amused! i ask the groomer for a hygiene shave around the butt area. and only have to wash her butt if her poop is soft... yuck! |

What I am trying to say is that when they poop there isn't anything stuck to them to clean off. Everyone is talking about how the poop sticks to their pups butt and fur but if you are feeding a good quality food their poop should not stick and there should be no need to wipe, wash or shave like a baboon. A dog should poop a firm poop and it just should not stick to their behind. My pups poop 2 times a day so that would be 8 butt washing a day. Not only is that a little time consuming and impractical but how could that possibly be good for their skin to have someone washing their behinds twice a day? Even when I had babies (human) I tried to keep the butt wiping to a minimum because their tender little butts would become irritated. |
Unfortunately I have a good example from today: Thor started pooping, but there is construction work on my street, and all this heavy machinery went roaring by him. He got nervous, stood up, and tucked his tail right into some poop he was still working on. Is it just me, or have the boards been more contentious than usual lately? |

My groomer calls it a "landing strip," she shaves a strip on the bum from anus straight down. I get it done on the Maltese as well. Works like a charm. Puddin' had her first grooming yesterday and she was NOT amused! But she now has a nice little landing strip! |

We have exactly the same routine here. Love those baby wipes for quick cleanups! |

I have only had this problem once, and I really think it was because Stewie's little tum tum wasn't feeling up to par! I just stuck him in the sink (laundry/mud room) and let the warm water run over his hiney! Voila no dingleberries! |

LMBO! I was just thinking the same thing. I need to go check their hineys right now. |
