OP, this past Spring, I had been growing Amelia's hair out for months & months. Her hair is curly/cottony so it's exceptionally hard to get any length on it. It had just gotten long enough that she really looked like a Yorkie. I took her to the groomer to get her body hair cut down (and told them to specificially not touch the head), and she came out completely shaved down, on top of her head, too---almost looking like a Chihuahua. I was SO mad! It does grow back, but boy does it seem like an eternity while it does. These days, I prefer the short body cut, so long as the head/muzzle is cut correctly. Oh - and I took the advise of so many ppl here & started cutting it myself. |
2 Attachment(s) I had Twinkle cut for the very first time today. She has a soft coat and always seeemed to matt on her legs and feet.....I love her new look but she does look soooo different - I can't get use to her not having any black puppy hair! I asked them to leave her her tail though because I like how it looks like a big feather:D |
I don't have a picture to show you, but I think they look so much cuter in short hair. If you have long hair and don't keep after it everyday they get all matted up. JMO |
1 Attachment(s) Here is little Miss Esmee . |
2 Attachment(s) I love short, too! My Keegan loves to roll in the grass, and he tends to whiz on his fur when it's long. After his first cut, he ran through the yard with glee! |
1 Attachment(s) I had Ella's hair cut in October and when I picked her up...............I wanted to die! She looked so different! I just didn't know what to do! I said, "OH, Ella how pretty!" :D |
4 Attachment(s) Here's chewy with a puppy cut, not too short but not what I call long... I scissor cut him to look like this. :D |
The biggest problem with groomers and clients is misunderstanding. One persons definition of short is not the same as anothers. Groomers have many different lengths of blades. They also have several different Snap on Comb lengths. Be very specific on what you want. Taking in a picture is best or sometimes they have a portfolio of their work that you can look through. They also will keep a file on exactly how they groomed your dog (blade length, etc) and can go a little longer next time or a little shorter or exactly the same, or whatever you want. Just try to communicate well and politely and you should have a good experience. |
