I'm trying too figure out if my little stinker, has a cotton or silky coat. I can't tell the difference's in it. Please tell me what you think his coat is, thank you.

the easiest way to tell is to take a picture without a flash or the anti red eye on - if his eyes glow green- he is silky if they are red. he's cotton

Hard to tell but having 1 silk and 2 cottony I would say his coat looks closer to my cottony ones.

Hi! First of all - how old is your baby? I think she looks modified to me - but I really can't tell. Sometimes they still have their puppy coat and it's hard to tell.

My Mia is a cotton coat and her hair is so thick it looks like she's a Pom. I think my Max is a modified because his hair is somewhat silky, on the thin side and does get matted.

weird....I just looked back at some of my pics and this is true. Why would their eyes look different?

Soak him in warm water and put him in the dryer on high. If he shrinks, you've got a cotton coat! Don't forget the fabric softener.

that is exactly why I asked. My Vivian's eyes glow green. I can tell already though she is silky. she is 13 weeks but her hair doesn't mat and her coat is a blue black. She is a puffball though. tons of hair.

My 9 week old puppy's eyes glow green in pictures. Does that ring true for puppy's too? Cause if so, I'm excited about that. I have a shih tzu that's got a cotton coat and it's a real pain to keep tangle free!

These are three picture of Tiffy. She has had a green eye reflection in pictures since a puppy and has a wavy silk coat. Hope this helps.

:thumbup::thumbup: I didn't know which coat Scooter had until I adopted Bailey and before I always thought is was the flash.

That is so cool to know! My silky coated yorkie's DO turn GREEN in the flash and I always wondered why. My "modified silky" coate Yorkie's eye turn red in the flash. And I always wondered why.

what does the color of their eyes in pictures have to do with the texture of their coat??

From the pictures to me looks like could be silk to a modified silk. If the coat is cotton the hair on the paws and legs would be thick, thick and from the photos the hair on the paws do not look thick and wooley. I have two cotton coats and the hair on their legs and paws are very very thick. My modified coats have straight hair on their paws but thicker than my silk coats. If a yorkie has a cotton coat the hair on the paws are very very very thick and wooly per se.

Does the camera trick work on a 12 week old puppy? Okay... Don't laugh BUT I have chased her around all night with the flash off and the redeye off and all I get is either a blurry picture or just those beautiful brown eyes. No green or red! My husband is laughing at me trying to figure this out. :laugh::laugh:

I'm so curious, what makes their eyes correspond to their coats?!:p
Mimi has a very fine silky coat...green eye.
Momo has cottony coat...red eye.

Wow, I didn't know about the eye thing. Fancy's eyes are green in pictures so I hope it turns out she has a silky coat. I didn't know how to tell the difference between a silky and a cotton coat anyway...:rolleyes:

I think i may have found a loophole is the eye color matching the dogs coat. My yorkie is definitley a cottony coat and has green eyes in his pictures...does this mean his coat will turn silky? or is this whole eye thing just a coincidence with everyone elses yorkie?
