Pedipaws nail filer
 

Has anyone actually used one of these. I just bought one, but it's not as easy as it looks. He tries to put his nose in it as I'm trying to file, and when the nail touches the file, it sparks a little and he freaks out and pulls away. It also seems to file very roughly not smooth like i expected. Any experience with this product?

I started thread the other day as I just bought one. I have not used it yet, I am still in the process of getting them used to it. I've had in on the floor while they are running around and I have actually put it up to their nails. I've also have it on while they were lying next to it. I've been doing what the instructions suggest to get them used to it. Hot Rod has been professionally groomed before, but Maggie has never been so she is a bit more freaked then him.

I just got mine in the mail, it took forever to get here:rolleyes: but the vet just cut their nails so I will wait untill they are a little larger, I will have hubby to help me out untill they get use to it:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork

Mine has been on back order forever (8 weeks?) I'm getting ready to drop by and let the vet tech do it for me ($16) :eek:

Still waiting on mine. Was back ordered for 6 weeks!

I have not used this type of product...yet, though I did order the Peticure earlier this week. Sounds like it will be a while before it arrives. I am very anxious for it as I have heard such rave reviews about them & hope I don't have any problems using it. I am so paranoid to clip their nails with a regular clipper, so I am hoping for a miracle here.
Hope you have better luck with yours soon.....maybe it just takes some getting used to in learning how to use it.

I have it and have used it before. I didn't get any sparks. Sometimes the nail would hit the safety part and he'd pull away for that. I took off the orange saftey part and it's been soooooo much easier. I can move it around easier, and I didn't have to worry about it pulling his nail towards the edge. He calmed down and actually dozed off while I was doing it. I think this is a great product. If you can get your baby to calm down and not have to worry about him/her jerking, then I'd try to take off the safety. If you do, make sure you trim the hair around their nails or put panty hoses on their paw to hold the hair back.

I just bought the pedipaws from BBB using the 20% coupon so it became 15.99. I was unsure if it would work on my yorkie because whenever I try to cut his nails, he moves like crazy, even if I have someone assisting me.

So I bought 2 C batteries to put in the pedipaws, watched the instruction video online, and I used it on my yorkie. I had someone holding him, and so that helped me alot. You use it on one nail at a time for 3-5 seconds before moving on to the next one. You can always go back later to the nail, but you definitely want to switch nails because it might hurt them if you keep it on for longer than 5 seconds. (This was written on the website directions).My yorkie was surprisingly very calm, and it was successful on him.

I am definitely keeping my Pedipaws. :thumbup:

The only negative thing that I encountered is that this product is made for right handers (as are a lot of items). But I am ambidextrous so I was able to use it. If you are only a left hander, it is going to be difficult because you HAVE to use it with your right hand to do it correctly.


Note: I did not get any sparks. It is pretty noisy when the nail hits the grinder, but my dog did not freak out. I think the reaction will depend on the dog, plus I think if you acclimate your dog to it slowly, it will become better. It is a lot scary doing it at first, my sister did not like it, but I was fine with it. My dog was not hurt at all by it, and I am definitely keeping it for future use.

I've been wondering what people though that had used this product. I can do just about anything to mine, but I HATE cutting the nails. I can yank the hair out of their ears, trim around their bottom or eyes, clean up their poo and puke, but I HATE cutting their nails.

wow! my aunt ordered one about 4 months ago and still hasnt gotten it....isnt it basically a dremel with a cover to it?

I have a dremel and they make the nails pretty smooth.....

i wouldnt trust anything that sparks! :cool:

I bought the Peticure one. No sparks and it seems to work pretty well. Nails are not sharp afterward like with traditional clippers. It is pretty much a dremel with a cover, in fact peticure actually sells attachments for your dremel. I went with the complete unit because I liked that it was cordless and rechargable.:thumbup:

The only downside was it took Forever to get.

I bought one at Walgreens a couple weeks ago and just started using it on Obi last weekend. I was only able to get a few nails done, but once he calmed down it seemed to work pretty well. Definitely is nicer than when I had his nails trimmed at the groomers...no sharp edges. Will be attempting to do a few more nails this weekend. I thought it was pretty easy to use and was better than trying to use a clipper, as this is our first dog and I've never had to clip nails before.

"SPARKS"? YIKES! We've begun to use the PediPaws, and like it for our Mozart. Abigail still takes some 'convincing' ;). We like the shield on the grinder, and hope this will work out for both dogs, as our vet just went up to $19 for a nail trim. That's AFTER the office payment :eek:

We try to remember to run it all over their bodies - especially feet at least once/day to get them accustomed to the vibration.

I got mine at Pet Supplies Plus last Sunday.so I had no waiting for mine. I used it on Monday on all 3 of mine and they all did wonderful! No sparks for us. I did watch the video from the web site and followed their instructions. I had no problems and it was so easy to do. I was a bit scared to try it at first and it took me a day to work up the nerves to do it:rolleyes: But I found it quite easy to use.

Step by step instructions-

I got one at Bed Bath & Beyond last Sat. and used it on Tyke. He didn't seem to mind and we had no sparks.
My daughter held him and fed him Yogurt drops while i filed and it worked great. Beats dealing with those clipper things...lol

I bought one this past week, took it out the box and then put it back in. My Brooklyn took one look at it and ran for the hills. The thing was just a tad bit too big and awkward for me.

i think the one the OP is talking about is the one that you can buy in stores now...not the Peticure...

yeah sorry i didn't state that. I bought the Pedi Paws from Bed Bath & Beyond. It wasn't the Peticure.

I bought the Pedicure and just love it. The girls first reaction was to bolt, but when they found out it wasn't going to hurt them, they were just fine.

I mean Peticure............sorry.

I got one too and I agree it is not easy getting them used to it I have yet to have one nail done. Not easy.

Finally got mine. I did their nails last week and again this week. I agree it is a little difficult-especially if you are left handed!

I really like mine. I have the PediPaws. I see no way there could be sparks? There's no metal? I'm not saying it's impossible, but really...sparks?

Daisy was scared of it the first time I tried to use it on her, but I just kept taking out of the box, letting her sniff it, I laid it on her bed and she laid by it. I turned it on and let her nose it a bit *sniff* Then finally I was able to do all of her nails in about 5 mins.! They are so much smoother than when I clip them or the groomer. I love it! :)

Abby may be a different story, but I'm going to try her next. I'll wait until after she's healed from her spay.

Keep trying, but ease your babies into it.

Do you all think the peticure and the pedipaws is really very different?

I bought the PediPaws at Target and used it today. I have NEVER clipped or trimmed any of my dogs' nails...just never could bring myself to do it! But I thought I'd give this a try since it now costs $12 to get them done at the groomer, and that's just clipped - not filed. It was easy, although I didn't take much off of each nail, I'm sure - I just did it very lightly and only for 2 seconds or so on each one since it was our first time. But Olivia did great so I am sure I will get better with time. It was easy enough to use, a bit awkward to get the right positions, but I'm hoping that will improve too. No sparks, and the noise didn't seem to bother Olivia once she got used to it. So far so good! :aimeeyork

This product was on Good Morning America recently and got a B rating for smaller dogs.....the dog they had on the show they were trying it on was scared to death of it.

I love it. Nails have always been a drama at my house. When I bath my babies I do the ears,but, eyes, and nails all at the same time. After a bath the nails are not as brittle so it goes a little faster. Even the Queen don't mind it with the petipaws She is usually a little drama queen about everything. :thumbup:

ok so i just bought one at work tonight and odie HATES it. pulls away while i'm trying it and like someone said above, doesn't file and smoothly and it says it does.

and i can actually smell a burning smell when it does it...so i'm definitely not using it on him or even trying to again for that matter =[

at least i can take it back to work and get my money back
