Help! Grooming bands pulling out too much hair Pebbles is losing hair because of her grooming bands. I cut them out and everything but I guess her hair is so fine that it pulls it out... I am using really good grooming bands too. I don't know what to do. Is there any kind of shampoo to help regrowth?? She is getting a little bald spot :( |
I don't put them in my babies hair anymore...They hurt my head when I have a ponytail, it must hurt them too, only they can't really get them out !!! |

I am thinking of trying some kind of fabric pony holder instead of the rubber grooming bands |
I've noticed when I take Bella's hair down she always loses a few strands of hair in the grooming band. I was thinking about using ponytail holders and ordering some of these. Pony Tail Holders : - The Diva-Dog Bowtique Dog Bows Handmade with Love for your Pampered Pet! |

those pony holders were kinda what I was thinking of... that second website has a really good deal on them. But i will check claires first :) |
I get those tiny ones at the dollar store and I get like 50 or more for $1.00. They do still pull some of the hair out though. The hair will knot in them if left in for 2 days. I'm a flight attendant and I will put Brooke's hair up and my hubbie won't take it out and when I get back from a trip then I take it out and brush out the knots. I haven't found the perfect solution to this problem either!! If anyone has the perfect hairtie, please let us in on the secret!! |
The bald spot is from twisting the bands too tight, and too close to the scalp. Joey's breeder said that after you put in the topknot always take a comb and place right under the band to loosen the topknot. You can actually kill the area and no hair will grow if you are not careful. |

I am by no means an expert because I have a male and he has just now started letting me make a top knot. (besides the fact my family thinks boys shouldn't have bows). WHat i have used are the tiny rubber bands that my son got from the orthodontist when he had braces. they are very flexible and you don't need to twist them more than once because they are so small. We seem to have several of these little packages of rubber bands around from his braces days. If you went to a local orthodontist I bet they would sell you a pack. I do know there are different strengths and thicknesses. I think mine are medium. I was also told to take a tiny pair of sissors and cut the band rather than pull it out. Good luck. Cher:aimeeyork |

Thanks for clarifying that, I will try it!! |
I found some bands I liked so much for Sammy I put them on my website. They are tiny versions of the covered elastics I use in my hair She does get them out but they don't usually take any hair out with them. The regular "elastic" bands are good for under bows but they do rip hair out if left in too long. I am currently re-growing the middle of Sammy's hair where she ripped one of those out. I also find that using detangler spray helps because the smoother it goes in the less likely it is to rip out hair. Barkaholics — Top Knot Bands - Covered |
The key to banding the hair, especially the top knot, is to do it losely and NEVER pull it out...always use band cutting scissors to remove them. Personally I prefer non-latex bands (1/4 inch) that you can buy off of ebay. Latex bands have a very uneven surface and when stretched, causes voids that trap hair leading to breakage/hairloss. The non-latex bands (polyeurathane) retain their smooth texture even when stretched. Good luck! |

This is what I use.. Not this brand but the picture looks similar to the bands I use. I get them at target and they come in a package with alot of colors. They arent like regular rubber bands |

My Yorkie's hair is of different lengths around her face, so it is very difficult to tie up in a band. I try really small sleeper hair clips and sometimes a small plait to keep her hair out of her eyes. |

I use nothing but scrunchies from the Dollar Store...They have 300 of them for a dollar...They are really tiny ones but stretch pretty good...When I take them out none of mine loose coat due to them...They slide out... You have to watch tho when putting them in not to get other strands of coat caught in them when you twist them for the ponys...I can't use the scrunchies from Wal-Mart they don't stretch good enough and when you take them out they loose coat. My gals are rough when playing and pull each others pony out and these scrunchies does help them not to loose coat. I tried bands broke my gals and guys coat so I went back to the scrunchies...I bought all they had last time I went which was like 6 bags so were good to go for a while. lol. If you'd like me to send you a few to try you could PM me your address and I'll send you some. They have them in different colors too for boys and girls. Hope this will help you. :) Lee |
for everyday use to keep her hair out her face I use those mini clips. their shaped like little flowers and come in lots of colors. they seem to hold well until her brother pulls them out.. I get them at walmart or walgreens maybe a few dollars at most |
3 Attachment(s) I use these little barrets. They are metal and you 'snap' them in the middle to open and close. I find them at the Dollar Store, Target, Walmart, etc. They work real good for a quick fix. But I don't use them when Gracie is going to be unsupervised. I put them on one in either direction to help hold all the little hairs. Topnot gel is also a must with her. |
We use the little Goody clasps for every day.. or just barrette bows, no band underneath... Just be careful with the clasps that you attach them some way they are just "hugging" the hair, but not pulling the skin... we also had the bald spot some time ago... |

also, where do you get topknot gel? i know petsilk has some but i forgot where I saw it online for the past few days ive given up and shes been running around with her hair down over her face looking like some wild animal :p |
I say use the scrunchies till she gets her hair back. Those are soft and you might have to redo it during the day but it won't pull her hair out. Save the bands for weekends or special occasions and try what was suggested with the hair. |
