| ![]() Alright this is my 1st Yorkie, Mimzy. I have been doing some reseach on Yorkies, and just have some questions. I have found a couple of articles stating that her hair should not be brushed when it is dry. Can someone please elaborate this for me, should it just be damp? or should I be using some kind of hair product? Or is this just nonsense? Also any recomondations on what shampoo's to use? I am also worried about her ears, when I first got her they were nice and erect now they seem to kinda flop around when she doesnt feel like holding them up. Do I need to keep them trimmed??? I am not a groomer and worry about trimming them and making them look ugly. Any suggestions? |

| ![]() Thank to everyone who has give me advice, it is greatly appreciated! Here are some updates on the situation. I shaved Mimzy's ears yesterday, they seem to be standing up more this morning. But they still tend to kinda flop around, ( they have been floped over since tuesday). Is there anything else I can do? Or with them being shaved they will become more erect in just a couple of days? Anyone else had this problem? |

Sometimes when they are teething....ears act floppy too. Just keep them trimmed and shaved to reduce the weight.

| ![]() I left London's ears alone. No shaving or taping. I was kind of hoping they would just stay floppy. I think they look cuter that way.

| ![]() Any spray, even just water will keep the coat from breaking or getting split ends. For a pet at home, not such a big deal, usually only for show yorkies whose coat is kept long to the floor. But if you can do this, why not? If you keep your pet trimmed shorter, then it does not matter. If you would like to learn how to groom your pet at home, this video might be very helpful to you, whether you want to cut your dogs hair, or just lear the proper way to care for the rest of her. If you want to groom her yourself, I made a great yorkie grooming video: "How to Groom Your Pet Yorkie at Home". It is 2 hours, 2 minutes long. It explains in very detailed, simple to understand, common sense ways to care for your yorkies coat at home. It is made for the at home pet owner who knows nothing about grooming. It covers nail trimming, foot pad shaving, ear hair plucking and ear canal cleaning, how to trim out the eye corners between the eyes, how to clip the sanitary area, how to tip the ears. I show 3 different hair styles for the body (long to the floor "traditional" look, puppy cut, and schnauzer type "personality" clip) and a few different head styles. How to put up the top knot, and a newer style of topknot that will really stay in, and a rounded cute "teddybear" face and head style. I show how to empty the anal glands, and show the bathing and drying. I explain all about using the grooming equipment properly, what to buy, where the groomers shop for the lowest prices around. I stress common sense and safety. THIS IS NOT FOR SHOW DOGS OR PROFESSIONAL GROOMERS. I have been a professional groomer for 17+ years now. I show a few of the important things over and over so you can see from different angles. I use 3 different yorkie models. My DVD's have chapters so you can skip to what you need to see. I have them on my yorkie website (see signature below) and I will give Yorkie Talk members a $10.00 off discount for a limited time. The website price is $39.95 + $3.50 shipping. Members here will get it for a total of $33.45 which includes the shipping fee. I accept pay pal and US POST OFFICE money orders. Feel free to PM me if you are interested. The discount is for a LIMITED TIME ONLY as long as my current supply lasts. Sue& Cricket ![]() Quote:
