hair looking "greasy" i feel kind of silly for asking this.. but.. for those of you that have yorkies with silkier hair.. do you find it looks greasy often? im having this problem with my puppy.. I dont know if she is just picking up body oils from people petting her a lot or what... but to keep her looking "clean," recently ive been having to wash her 2 times a week which i think is too much... also, it doesnt seem to matter what kind of shampoo/conditioner i use? it can be hartz puppy shampoo, a flea and tick shampoo or even minksheen -- within 2 days she looks rather dirty & i brush her everyday. does anyone else have this issue with their yorkie?? should I just leave it alone? is it just what the silkier hair looks like after a few days?? |
Duncan has a silkier coat too and he looks great for about 24 hours after his bath! Then he looks like like hes never had a bath! ive learned to just accept that this is his coat. I only bath him once a week at most and I use allergroom shampoo on him and a leave in cond called "THE STUFF". works great and as hes getting older his coat seems to be getting better. Brushing everyday is essential to keep the knots out. Good luch and shes adorable! |
I have a greasy girl with a cotton coat. She looks good for 24 hours and that's about it. I bath her once a week with Earthbath. I want to do more but don't dare as she seems to get a bit of dry skin even with greasy hair. I do wonder if our hand oils contribute to the problem. Would love some suggestions :) |
My Zada has beautiful silky coat and Azrael has the VERY thick cotton coat and neither of them ever looks oily, ever. Now my new little girl who just turned 7 months tends to "look" oily a few days after her bath, but I'm still not sure what type of coat she has. |

anywho, im glad my dog isnt the only one. im begining to think its because of peoples "hand oils" or something |
Xavier's coat does the same thing! After about 32 hours he looks a mess! I can't bathe him more than once a week because he has very dry skin...o what to do what to do! Just bought Buddy Wash this week and am hoping that will help some? |

My baby is 7 months old and gets oily in front of her ears. Vet has checked her ears and there are no parasites. He is even confused as to why her ears get so dirty without mites. Just told me to clean with peroxide and cotton balls. Go figure, she has oily ears! |
just camee home from the vet The vet just told me that yorkies have this problem often. They have allergies sometimes andd you should put them on a good dry dog food specifically for allergies. Also try giving them fish oil for the extra fatty acids. This can also cause yeast infections and they may need an atibiotic. My dog sounds identicle to Sasha. Do your yorkies also start to smell after just a few days after the bath. He told me that she's secreating extra oil and its turning rancid. Also with the oily coat, they are going to collect more dirt on the coat. He said to use a gentle shampoo (baby shampoo). He said not to use dog shapoo very often. He said if I try all of this that it should clear up. |
