I agree. We should let as many people know as we can to stay away from places like this one :( |
Bad breeders--or Petshops I read these posts with interest. I dont usually post any responses--but just this one time i will. I know some of you dont have yorkies yet and are in the research and "looking" stages. I would offer the following advice: (1) Dont buy from a pet store--these pups come from puppy mills. Most of them are shipped in on short notice, and in transport can acquire illnesses- such as Giardia, Coccidia, Parvo, Kennel Cough. The Pet Shop may be clean, but you dont know where the pups came from, and who or what they were exposed to on the way to the Pet Store in question. When most reputable breeders import dogs into their kennels, they place new pups in isolation for a ten day period(yes, they still get cuddled, and watched over, and cared for well) but, they dont jeopardize their kennel. When you get ready to buy a yorkie, or other pup--be sure to go to the Owner or Breeder's home. Make sure you see the parents of the pup you are looking at. Make sure the mom even has fuller breasts and looks like this is her pup. Look at the kennel, and how clean it is, how good it smells, what shape the other dogs are in, how they respond to their owner's and your touch, and what the pups are acting like. Are they clear eyed, are the coats nice, are they energetic and confident and are they playing with the others well. If this is not enough, ask for references, as many as you need to satisfy you--and actually email or call these people. Ask them about their experiences with the breeder or owner. Finally, ask what type of guarantee they are giving you for the pup. Will they cover any congenital defects that make themselves known before the pup is a year old. Sometimes pups will seem well at the first vet check but problems crop up later--this has happened to just about all breeders at one time or another. If they have never had an issue, they are not being truthful. Things happen. All you can do as a prospective new yorkie owner is to ask alot of questions, really observe the surroundings when you are looking at a pup, really watch the pup yourself and check the references given you before you buy from them. Good luck. Maineyorkiemom |

hey i actually bought my yorkie from puppypetite in brooklyn and i am absolutely happy with her, shes my little angel. they are a very trust worthy store and i would like to make it clear that none of their puppies come from mills. they do offer a one year health guarantee and free vet visits. we live in pa and my yorkie is a little over a year old. since then she has had to go to the vet once and they reinburst us for the vet bills, and they also gave us vitamins for the her for up to a year. i do reccommend that you do buy your puppy from them you will be very happy you did. also unlike many other pet stores who claim to be selling teacup yorkies and then grow to be 10 pounds, their dogs stay true to their size (my baby is 3 pounds). one thing i think you should be warned about because no pet store will tell you this and it is what i am goin through now with my yorkie is they may develop liver problems. if you do decide to buy your puppy from them, take advantage of the 14 days and have your puppy checked for liver shunts. hope my info helped you. oh one more thing their puppies are already trained to go on pee pee pads. |

Welcome. I know it's hard to wait when you decide you want a Yorkie, but like everyone's telling you it doesn't sound like such a great place. Look in our two yorkies for sale sections, and put in a post under puppies wanted. It's better to wait a little longer, and make sure you get a healthy dog. |
i guess i just got lucky my beautiful baby is great!!!! i love her with all my life |
I got my pup from Puppy Petite before I knew any better. I should had done my research beforehand but I didn't, it was an impulse buy. I thank god I've been lucky and at 9 months she has been healthy up to this date. I did my research on my specific pup with all the info she came with and she came from Missouri, which means puppymill. Meanwhile the store stated my pup came from a local breeder, which was a total lie. I dont think anyplace that really cares about there pups would ship their dogs to a pet store at such a young age, I purchased her when she was 9 weeks old. Took my dog to the the vet and the vet said there was no need for antibiotics for a healthy dog. I worry constantly about her health cause I have no idea where she really came from. Now that I've done my research and know better I would never shop from them again nor any other pet store. There customer service was not good at all. They were helpful when I came into the store but the moment I decided which pup I wanted I became invisible and all they saw was the money. They didnt answer any of my questions but I had already fallen in love with my pup so I didnt care at the time. People should really do their research before they decide from where to get your pups from. |
