Carrier for 2 on airplane any suggestions? I need one that is light weight to carry it through the airport.... |
Wont they only allow ONE pet per carrier?? I thought I remembered reading this? Check that out first...and then let me know if I'm right cause I have 3 and another on the way :D 2 for me to carry, 2 for my DH to carry :p |
no for america airlines it can be 2 in one as long as they have enought room to get up and move and they have to be like between 2 to 6 months |
i wanted to take two as far as texass when I took one to LA and continental wouldn't allow two in the carrier even tho one was getting off in Texas so it probably depends on the airlines. Most of the ones i checked their sites said only one dog per carrier per passenger in the cabin with a limit of two in the cabin at any time. if it is cargo or counter to counter and not in the cabin with you, they will allow two as long as the carrier (hard) is large enough for them to turn around, stand up in. Soo, just check with your carrier. |
yeah... it depends on the airline but I had been told 2 in a carrier is OK if they were pups or one was mom and pup. :eyebrow2: But all airlines has a limit per plane. I think it's 3 per plane. So hubby 2 and you 2.... won't work. BTW... Dee... you new avatar is sweeeeet! =) |
The airlines said 2 in one bag was okay--since the total they weigh is 6#. Itzi is a licensed service dog and actually can sit in my lap once we're on the plane. I was hoping to find one that would accommodate the two of them while walking through the airport--and for the 2 hours after getting through security--if they both want to nap. BTW I can access that Cruiser is going to be great in the ring, but I can't assess him for being a service or therapy dog....he is too young. I like the avatar too. |

Yes, he can sit on my lap because he is a service dog. He doesn't need the bag. His carrier, is me, the human, when he needs to be out of harm's way. Cruiser on the other hand, is only 3# and has not yet been introduced to the joy of flying. If I haven't sold Dusty, I might take him as the second in the bag. That would be 3 on the plane; hmmmmmmmmmm--I'll be the little blonde with the cute dogs having the breakdown and needing the service dog..... |

I would love to see you and your 3 babies on a plane - and I can see how you'd need a service dog for that trip! Does he help w/ anxiety and such? Animals are amazing therapy for that. |
WOW... service dogs can be on the lap! I have to get my baby enrolled then! LOL I didn't know that! That's good to know! |
BTW, I was kidding about 2 in the carrier and bringing Itzi too. I can't figure out how I would get through security--I am sure one of them would get loose. Oh my. Yes Itzi is a licensed service and therapy dog. He has traveled with me on airplanes to Orlando, Vegas, Texas, Arizona and later this month to Kansas City. As a therapy dog we have gone to the Veteran's Hospital, Children's Hospital, the school's reading program, and the library's program for disadvantaged children/readers. As a service dog, Itzi is a Hearing assisted dog and medication dog for me--he reminds me when I need a reminder to take medications. |

My daughter flies back and forth to school in Grenada with her "service kitty". She was scared to death to fly and now that she has Spade with her she does so much better. Spade is also allowed on her lap as long as she's leashed. |

Dee...I just got a Celltei Backpack carrier. I got the medium to carry my two. You can also use it as a regular carrier and car seat. I figured hands free was a good idea, and ability to just carry it by a handle a plus, then a car seat too ....sold me!! I should get it soon. I'll let you know what I think and send pics. |
Can you post a link to the one you ordered? I'm going tomorrow to check out a new store in Riverside; I heard they are selling puppies which doesn't make me happy but I am going to see what is going on there....I heard they had some nice carriers. |

Those wheeled ones at Target would probably fit two and then you don't have to carry it around the airport either. You lay it down on it's side in the plane and I would think it would fit under the seat and they can stretch out. Just a thought. I saw some marked down to around $25 at a Target store last week. http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...sin=B000EGK6PE If you read the reviews lots of people used them for airline travel. There is also someone on here who sells some similar to these that can also be used like a back pack and she will paint your yorkies, etc. on it too! Can't remember who it was, though. |
Most airlines will let you take two in one carrier as long as the combined weight doesn't exceed 20 pounds. Look into getting the carriers on wheels (and that say airline approved) since it's so much more easier to walk around terminals. |
I bought one of those carriers that are on wheels--and guess what it is too big for under the seat. One of the girls told me that she took the dogs in a carry on, placing it in a dog stroller. When she got to the door of the plane, the flight attendants took the stroller and put it inside (folded up) and gave it back at arrival--just like they do with a baby stroller. Do you think this would work--kills 2 or 3 birds with one stone. The certification for service dog was 40 hours group classes, 20 hours individual work with the trainer, and 20 hours of the trainer working with the dog without me. Therapy dog training was 20 hours working under supervision of the trainer at the hospital, library, school, etc. after passing the organizations' assessment of the dog training and testing as well individual therapy training and assessment-- a doctor's note--that would have been easier now that you mention it..... |
