| Please Help- I need to fly 2 cats. I need to fly my 2 cats to another state. They are going to be 14 and 12 this year- They are poor Travellers so driving them is not an option. They are Maine Coons. I will not put them as cargo. I remember reading about someone was able to fly their 2 yorkies with them even though they were 1 person. I can't find the thread it is contained in. Both travelled under seat but 1 was at the owners feet and the other was under a different seat the owner purchased. Please help. I don't have to do it til April/May. They are up to date on vaccines and my vet will need to give them a mild sedative each. If I have to I will have someone else fly with me. They will need to fly from Newark, NJ to Nashville, TN

| Though I have never flown with cats I have traveled with them in a van across country, mostly they just looked at me like "what? oh, go away, don't bother me." That is until they had to get out to pee. But your cats shouldn't be too much different in size than our dogs and two medium small dogs will fit in a large purse under the seat. Now out of Newark, it's awful anyway, but it kinda depends on which airlines about the travel restrictions etc., just like the dogs. Try dogjaunt.com they have some pretty good suggestions that could be adapted to cats I'm sure. One thing I have heard of but have not tried myself is the thunder shirts, for the anxiety, that might help too. Sorry I'm not really much help. Good luck.

| Have you called the airline to see what they suggest ? I would deff not put them in cargo either as too many pets get somehow let out of their crates & lost. I would drive before I ever put any animal in cargo. I wish you luck & a safe trip. |

How do you fly with the 2 dogs? My cats don't fit in 1 carrier- Both are a least 14 pounds each. I have not called airline yet because my main focus is how to get the 2 cats down together.

| Ok- let me give this a shot. Anybody can buy two seats. Airlines don't care why. Some people are large, or afraid of being that close to a stranger, or just like more room for whatever reason. I wait until my ticket goes on sale (say $80.) then book 2 tickets for myself. Most airlines I've flown, the booking code goes like this - first ticket- (your first and last name , no middle name) i.e. Jane Doe. Second ticket- Jane XS (XS- instead of your middle name. XS = extra seat) Doe. Book and pay for both tickets. $80 X 2 = $160. Later, call the airline and tell them you are bringing an in-cabin pet. I never say two pets. I get a confirmation number for the pet. The "pet fee" is different for each airline. For Southwest, it's $75. to bring a pet. I pay the pet fee ( for one pet) at the airport. Lola, the big Shih Tzu is in a carrier, so they always tag her carrier. Lucy the Yorkie is in a Kwiggy Bo. Never has anyone at the counter ever said anything about Lucy. They dont ask, and I don't say anything. I wheel Lola, and carry Lucy in the purse. For Southwest, you can't get an advance seat assignment (what group you board with) until you check in that day. When you check in, you get a boarding pass and an extra card that says "reserved seat". Disregard the boarding group number on your boarding pass, and preboard. Chose a window seat and place the extra seat card on the middle seat next to you. One kitty goes under each seat in front of you, so don't chose the first row or the emergency exit row. One time a flight attendant ask if I had paid to bring pets onboard. I showed her the extra seat card and the tag on Lola's bag, and she said "fine" and walked on. I never explained, and she never ask. Honestly, I do this all the time, as recently as last week. I've never once had any problems. I live in Maryland, but I love my vet in Florida, and I bring "the girls" with me wherever I go. My vet is monitoring Lucy very closely. She is treating her for dementia, kidney disease and cancer. My days with Lucy are limited. I won't leave her behind at home. I found a way to make it work for us. Is it a lot of money and hassle? You bet it is! But someday soon I won't have my little fur girl, and I cherish every single day we are together. Besides, getting out of the cold to the nice warm south is for us old gal's bones. . Hope this helps.
