I want to learn how to make avatars
 
I'd love to learn how to make avatars. I have Photoshop CS2, the 9.0.2 version. I can't get the pictures into layers. They just replace each other.
Does that make sense?

Anyway, is anyone willing to tell me how to do it, or does anyone have a really good tutorial I can go to? The ones I have found assume that I know much more than I do.

Good luck, was playing around with CS3 which is a trial version and it was doing the same thing to me. I sort of know how to make one with elements but cant figure it out either. Hopefully someone can help you

do you have msn messenger? or anything like that? It'd be easier to try to walk you through it that way. I also run PS CS2.

You have to use Adobe Image Ready it usually comes with Photoshop software. This is the one that makes animation. You make all the corrections of images in Photoshop and then import the images in one folder to Adobe Image Ready and create the animation. ;)

I also have a program that you can learn from - it makes animation SIMPLE - I use Photoshop for my avatars - but I can send you this little one to start with - just shoot me a pm

oh - and on ANY Label orders I get I'm more than happy to include a new avatar if someone just asks !!! I don't have the time to do the avatars like I used to but if someone needs one I can FIND the time !!!

How do you create a folder? I'm pulling in around 8 pictures, resizing them in Photoshop, and that's it. I just can't find how to create a folder.

When you done with all your pics in Photoshop just create new folder on the desktop. For some reason in order to open all the photos at one time in Adobe Image Ready you have to import the folder that your pics are in. Right click on your desktop then go to new and then folder. This will create a folder for you. Name it and put all the photos you wanted in it. Then open Adobe Image Ready go to file and you ll see it says import. Click on that and it will show import folders. Click on that and find that new folder you created that you put your pics in. Once the folder is selected then all the photos will appear in the timeline and you can change the seconds between the pics. Once you are done with it select gif file on the right side of the screen because you file has to be created in a gif file. Then click save optimized as where you go on file. It will saved the whole file for you where you have selected it.;)

The CS3 does not have the image ready anymore, it has animation, downloaded the trial version and maaaan i am scratching my head :eek:

CS2 & CS3 has the animation bar that imageready does, you just go to Window > Animation and ta-da! :)

What a great explanation! Thank you so much! I got it all until this part:

There is no selection (or anything else) on the right side of the screen. ????

But you still have to create a folder and import it even though you're not going to Image Ready, right?

No problem at all:) Oh sorry I have on my right side of the program all different windows as layers, rollovers, colors and optimize. So the window that says optimize select gif file then selective then diffusion then lossy 0 then colors 128 and differ 100%. if you dont see the window that says optimize click on Window and then optimize on the top of the program where you have file, edit, image etc. Once you done that then click file and save optimized as and select the location where you want to save teh file.;)

Running a trial on CS3 extended, but too spendy to buy, have an offer to buy the CS3 for 1/2 price but got to do it by the 29th before offer expires. Wanted to see first if i can figure it out somewhat as it it costs enough even at half price.

You can always drag and drop each layer wherever you want, for example if you layer 2 is on top of layer 1, you can just pull layer 2 and drag it under, and make sure the eye is always there next to the layer, if the eye is gone then that means you cannot see that layer (if that makes sense lol)..

i use another prog its Video Avatar!
i like it and i think its very helpful and simple!
this prog not free but has demo without timelimit!i use it now

Is that the same thing as Paint Shop Pro? if it is, you might bei n luck as i know some people who use that.. if it's not then i'm sorry i have no idea what program that is!

I have photo shop elements 4 (I believe), but my MIL got me the Paint ShopPro Photo X2, but I am still not getting the whole layering thing. (for editing backgrounds, adding, etc)....:(

I have jasc animation to do the actual avi and I can't figure the sizing out!

Why, oh why, am I so avi dumb??!!

I did it! Almost, anyway. It's 66.2 KB and I already took out one picture. How do I reduce the number of KB?

I had to do it in Image Ready. I know it's doable in Photoshop, but I have to play with that.

Wish I could help you Judy. I can do the changing pictures, but anything with words/names..etc...I just can't master. I love the avatar you have so far. Keep working at it...you're a lot smarter than I am.

You could resize KB by resizing the size of the photos and also you could play with optimize window in Adobe Image Ready. What I did thou when I resize each individual photo in Adobe Photoshop I saved the file as Save for Web. You go to File and then there is an option that says Save for Web. That way it makes KB smaller I think. I was able to add more pics in my avartar this way. Plus the size of the image I have is 125 pixels;)
