Not feeling so strong lately but hoping for better times soon. Thanks for those prayers, my dear friend.

Jeanie - my heart aches to hear of your pain. Not to fret about YT as long as Veronica or Lisa keeps us updated. You dear one have a lot of friends here who are praying, loving, and keeping you in our healing thoughts n light.

This is the time when I and I am sure many want to do like *I dream of Jeanie does and wiggle their noses to be with you*. Instead we have this small screen to type out our caring and concern.

Brave lady - just focus on healing up!

Hugs to every one of you!!! You are so dear.

LOL - already have blown my neck and headache today - both going at me so taking advantage to get in some posts while it's hurting anyway! Anyone know of a good, simple tablet that's a little larger than a Kindle Fire and very user friendly? Can't afford an iPad but have heard there are many good tablets and pads out there. Hoping for something a little larger-screened than a Kindle Fire if possible and still fairly cheap.

Will a Fire or tablet work on my wifi internet service without slowing my other online services down. I get online via wifi, have my landline phone via wifi and get my DirecTV On Demand services via wifi. Wouldn't likely be on my laptop and/or phone while using my tablet but just wondering if it uses a lot of bandwidth or something.

Jeanie, my heart and my prayers are with you. You are stronger than you realize, and I believe you and Tibbe make a formidable and truly loving team. I pray for better and brighter days ahead, free from the pain and frustration you are feeling.

I much prefer my iPad, but for people who like using the format of a regular laptop, a Chromebook is worth exploring. They started last year giving every incoming eighth grader to my high school a Chromebook, so I signed on to a 24 hour class this summer about using them in education which entitled me to get one also. If my students are using them, I need to be familiarized with them also. They are technically not computers, and they use Apps rather than programs. They are fairly lightweight and inexpensive, and because they have small solid state drives, they open up almost instantaneously. The one I have has a battery life of at least eight hours and is just a little more than two pounds. It's definitely worth checking out.

Hm, thanks, Lisa. Very interesting - forgot you'd mentioned those to me before but life got hectic since then. Going to finally find time to check those out. Been a little hard to do it lately but got to find a way to access internet that's not so tough physically! You are always a mine of information about anything and everything!

Jeanie, my husband just bought a tablet from qvc for $69.00. It is called Le Pen Mini. It is about the size of a Kindle. Check it out.

Really like the Flip - think that might be lighter and easier without cutting into my midriff as I surf the web as long as there's an onscreen keyboard to use while the actual keyboard is flipped backward. I'm now wondering if I even need an actual keyboard as it might - might, be more awkward than just an onscreen keyboard for my purposes. The lighter and more compact without being too tiny the better - at least that's the way I feel now with my very tender abdomen. Stretching and picking up much weight - anything over 5 or 6 lbs. really seems to make me sore and actually tender for some time! Guess I'm just a tenderfoot Texan! Bleh!

Can you download and save files to the Chromebook? Do you know if you have to purchase a subscription Microsoft Office after the first 3 months or so? I've heard Windows 10 will become a subscription service in a couple years. Wonder if Chromebook uses Microsoft 10 or what OS it is. Couldn't find that on first blush but will check back - ran out of steam.

Well, I just went and ordered the Chromebook for my son's birthday gift....I have never heard of Acer...hope it is good brand.....but I like the concept of this little thing....and the screen is large...he has bad eyesight, even with glasses, so I like the larger screen for him. Now, we can get all confused and try to figure THIS thing out!!! I am STILL trying to get my new computers set up....this is actually all too much for an old woman!

Good for you! Am going to really give it a hard look but want something pretty small. Probably can't download and save non-e-book files on a Kindle though - and that's a function I'd love to have. But HATE to purchase another subscription to Office.

It uses something called Google Docs, which automatically saves work. The documents can be done online or offline. There is a small drive on these machines, but things can be saved on the cloud. There are Chromebooks which also have touch screen capabilities that you can pull up a keyboard. Someone I'm friendly with bought an 11" Hewlett Packard with touch screen capability for $199.

My iPad is a lot lighter than the Chromebook, but still the Chromebook is only 2.5 pounds. Having the regular keypad is quicker for me when I'm typing long documents, but I love using my iPad. The Chromebook is a wonderful Internet device, and the Chrome operating system keeps getting better and better. I think you'd like GoogleDocs. A tablet might be better for you, but I still thought you should check this out if you like the idea of an inexpensive, fast, lightweight laptop.

Acre is the brand my school purchased, so that's what I'm using. The size of the letters will need to be adjusted so that Jimmy will be able to see better. I will help you as much as I can.

2.5 lbs. - that's less than Jilly weighed! Chromebook sounding good for my purposes as long as I can fold it up and not having anything poking into my tummy for a good while. So I won't have to purchase another Microsoft office in a few months? I bought Office on my old computer but did it online in a pinch one night and can't find my key code. Wonder if Microsoft saved it for me so I can just upgrade if the Chromebook needs it? Checking it all out - thanks, Lisa, once again!

The Asus Flip looks great. It's a little smaller, but it functions as a laptop and a tablet. It's only 1.96 pounds. I'm sure you'd need to make adjustments to text size. I needed to do that on the Chromebook I'm using which is 11.6 inches.

Chromebooks use Applications rather than programs. You won't need to buy programs. Apps are not necessary but they are inexpensive or free. There is a free online version of Microsoft Office, but you can also use Google based apps that are free also. I've used Office and then converted them to GoogleDocs. The main thing to remember is these are not computers, but neither are tablets. They are mostly internet devices. They are a little bit of a pain to use if your email isn't gmail, but you can use an app for your email and then check your email that way.

Thanks for all that great info. So if you download something using an app, you download it to the cloud and save it there, download it to your actual laptop or - or tablet? - if you need to keep a copy as a document or wave or MP3 file for use when not online? Sorry to ask so many questions but getting all this done while I can be online. Tomorrow and maybe Monday will likely have to take it easy and prob. can't do anymore laptop "heavy" lifting for a while. Neck is not too happy with me right now. Nerve root or two are so inflamed and irritated right now. Obviously too much lounging time these last few weeks and this for a neck that never did much lounging around in all its days until lately.
