I've been thinking of your son and wondering how his trip is going? Hoping he is enjoying it very much and all the camaraderie.

He is enjoying himself and he's making some good friends! He has learned to use a cane to help him keep from running into things or tripping over them. He has also learned how to mark his clothes so that he knows what colors things are. Along with that, they have been rafting and hiking. I'm sure he's learned lots of other things but he's usually in a hurry to get back with his group.

I know he's got such a hard struggle ahead for the rest of his life but the fact that he's taking on the things he already has since learning of his disease is fairly remarkable to me and surely portends good things ahead in life for this young man of yours. I'm so glad he's enjoying himself and making new friends on his trip! If you, Mom wouldn't mind, give your son a big hug from his "Auntie" Jeanie when he gets back home and pass along how really special I think he is for how well he's managed to face a total lifestyle change that totally crushes some. Oohhhh! I will definitely pass on hugs from his "Auntie" Jeanie😊 your words have been a tremendous source of comfort throughout this ordeal. I'll keep you updated😀

Thank you for the positive update:) . So happy your dear son is adapting so well enjoying the experience. They seem to be doing quite adventurous things and that will give him so much confidence in his abilities. This was such a wonderful idea to do this course and I pray when he returns home he will approach the future with acceptance and confidence. Now he has guitar, dog and college to look forward to. Wishing him the very best of luck with all these endeavors.

I am glad to know he is having a really good time on this trip. What great ideas he is being taught to do things for himself. You and your DH have to be so proud of him. I am in awe of how far he has come send along my hugs with Jeanie's. He has touched us all!

Thank you! He IS having a good time and he's becoming more positive about things. He actually sounds happy on the phone. He says he is sleeping better also which is great. They only have a week left but he's hoping to take another trip in the summer. I'm just really glad he seems to be adjusting to his new life. I know there will still be ups and downs but I think the worst is passed.

Hi.
I just saw this item on the TV news. It is an app for a phone that allows the blind person to connect with a volunteer seeing person. The volunteer can see for the non seeing person. Hard to explain but the website is Bemyeyes.org.
Looks interesting but don't know how useful it really is. Worth a look?

She is really an angel sent from heaven and has the gift of making people at their very lowest feel better:)

Dayswalters, I have your son's name along with others that I pray for along with family every night and sometimes day when I am too tired at night.

Thanks for passing on that hug! :) How is son doing? Is he home yet and how are his spirits? Been praying for all of you and so hoping that you are getting the help you all need.

He is supposed to be home on Sunday. He seems to be doing well although Tuesday he was having a rough day because he was feeling depressed about coming back to the "real world." A teacher that I know has a brother that went blind at 25 and she is putting together a packet for me that will help us find the support he will need to function. I really appreciate that she is doing this.

Also, my sons girlfriend was in a car accident on Tuesday. She thought she felt ok but yesterday I took her to emergency because she was in pain. They say she is fine, just bruised up but her car isn't drivable. At least the accident wasn't her fault.😕

I imagine it is depressing to think about having to leave that wonderful place where life is full of others going through the same things you are and where the entire program is tailored to instill hope, help and have positive challenges rather than days full of frustration and others who can never really understand. But no doubt the whole get-a-way has given him a lot more coping skills than he had before in such a wonderful setting.

It's amazing the human angels who step forward to help us whenever we go through awful times, isn't it? I know many more will come along.

So glad son's girlfriend is going to be okay - that's a huge blessing right there. He sure needs all his friends right now, especially those special ones like a girl friend or best friend.

Still praying for that precious son of yours.

He is back and doing well. He is deciding what his next steps will be. I'm trying to let him do as much as possible on his own. I've been really tired so I haven't been posting as much. I'll let you all know what school he decides on and when we find a pup. Thank you all again for your support. 😊:love:

I am so happy your son is successfully developing his coping skills to deal with this (what MUST be) horrific blow to his reality. He is such a strong young man.....

I had it in my mind that you had already found your new puppy right after you were blind sided by this life event.....a little Biewer? Am I completely loosing MY grip on reality and dreamed that???!!!!! I am hopeful you find your puppy in time for your son to be able to see the baby.....I guess I am trying to cram everything I possibly could cram into his "Visual Record Book".....

In any event, you all are in my prayers daily.

Yorkiemom. I think mom is getting a new puppy soon but her son also hopes to get a seeing eye dog to help him. But I may have got it wrong!

You're not losing touch with reality...I will be getting a puppy but she won't be home until the 27th when she will be 12 weeks old. I have been waiting impatiently. 😃

My son did lose his vision in his left eye already. His right eye is failing but he is still able to see with glasses. We are hoping that he will retain this vision as long as possible. We have decided to have an aide come and work with him 3 days a week instead of him going away to school. So far it is working well. He will be going on another trip next month with his group and is very excited.

We decided to go with a Labradoodle puppy for my son which he will be getting in late July. He is planning on going to train with the puppy once she is old enough. He is also planning to move back to his own apartment in July if everything works out.

So a lot has been happening...I was having some depression issues myself but I am feeling better and I'm really looking forward to my little pup joining the family. I know that Bonnie will be so happy to have a playmate!

Bonnie and your whole family is going to have a ball with the addition of two new dogs to your home! What a joy and loads of smiles and laughter those two wholly different type dogs will bring to your lives. I know puppies are work but the fun they bring with them is just immeasurable. Can't wait to hear all about them and see loads of pictures when you find time to upload some!

Your little pup will be home soon!! You must be so looking forward to puppy kisses, playfulness and the joy a little one brings!! Have you picked a name yet?

Glad you decided on a Labradoodle! The combination of a Lab and a Poodle is wonderful for people who are allergic. Plus the fact each breed on its own are very smart. Can't wait to hear how it all goes when your son visits and trains with his pup.

I am sooo looking forward to bringing my new pup home! Her name is Dixie😀 My son says he won't name his pup until we pick her up. He is really looking forward to having his new pup also, even though he won't get her until July.

We had a next door neighbor who had a German Shepherd with separation anxiety and the guy would leave her alone for a weekend (or longer) in a pen that was next to our bedroom windows. It was awful. He finally lost his house and a nice couple moved in about a year ago. Two months ago I discovered that they have two Labradoodles. We had no idea that had even one dog! They are super quiet. We have never heard them bark! Great choice. I am praying this works out for all of you. You've all come such a long way.

Love the name Dixie!! I was wondering if your son will be able to name his pup or if it came with a name already. It's nice that he can name it.

Five more days for your Dixie to come home! Can't wait to see a photo of her and all the fun and happiness she brings to you all!! :)
