Buster Brown & I have LP Thursday started off as a good day. I decided to wear a skirt and low heels to work. It was a cute outfit and the day was going well. I went to the commissary to grab some lunch to go so I could work back at my desk. As I was leaving my right heel slipped and my knee went to the right but sadly the rest of my body did not. I ended up on the floor with a popped kneecap. People were really kind and came over right away and helped me as I lay there in pain glad I had worn black tights and hoping I was not exposing more than my dignity. Our fire department and first aid came, and then Jack picked me up and took me to a Urgent Care Center. The Doctor informed me that my patella had violently luxated. So as of now I am in a brace on crutches and spending this weekend with my swollen and bruised knee propped up on pillows with ice packs. Of course it is our busy time so I have to be in work for Monday at 5:30am. I have to see an Orthopedic Doctor to find out if I have done any damage but I did not break anything according to the x-rays. All in all it's mostly the challenge of trying to get around on the crutches. So I am asking for prayers that I have only bruised the kneecap and not torn anything and will not require surgery. :hands: |
I think you should just crate rest yourself, only leash walks and no jumping or stairs. :D But seriously, sounds like you did a number on yourself. Rest up and hopefully you will get a good report at the Ortho next week. |

I'm sorry, I couldn't help but laugh at megansmomma's reply. LOL I'm sorry about your boo boo and hope you get a good report on Monday. Reading that made my knee hurt ! :( Take care and stay off that knee ! |
Well I am glad that you didn't flash anyone . . . I am glad you went to the Dr quick. I hope Monday gives you good news. . . Please stay off it, put a pillow under it and rest. Wither it is need surgery on not you need time to heal. . . You will get better with the crutches. Just take your time. Sending lots of good thoughts, hugs and of cause puppy kisses |
That injury just sounds so painful! Definitely puts you down on the pillows and makes life very hard, doesn't it? Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation first 24-48 and then heat as tolerated and in your case, bracing for support and to prevent further injury. And I imagine a few pain pills are in the offing - at least I hope so if you are hurting as badly as I think. I'll sure be praying that the ortho says no surgical repairs are necessary and that merely continued bracing/support will let you heal normally. As a joint is involved and your future mobility, I would insist on seeing an Orthopedic Surgeon who sub-specializes in knee injuries and is well-versed in how a traumatic injury of the PFJ can affect you as you age and try to prevent traumatic arthritis from setting up in the patellofemoral joint. You don't need a hip or back guy now. I hate walking on crutches!!! I practically can't manage it and it just wears me out. Stay down and rest, sleep all you can as the body just heals better with actual sleep helping it along as you aren't using up so many resources when asleep. I hope DH is nearby and can fetch things as you need them so you won't have to keep getting up - not good at this time. Update when you see your Ortho and I pray your next medical news is good. |
Hi, Carolyn. Sheila and I are so sorry that injured your patella. We will most definitely pray, that you don't need surgery, and you have just bruised your kneecap. That is definitely painful-we wish you didn't have to go to work. Rich |
Carolyn, I am sorry you hurt your knee and praying with rest it will heal and no surgery required. The first and only time I tried on a training kiddie ski hill I couldn't stop and went down with my knee in a peculiar position. The pain was terrible and thankfully I didn't need anything. Praying you will be heal in no time. |

But, oh, that sweet little Buster has his head as near to the hurt as he can get it, doesn't he? He's doing his part to get Mommie better!!! Aren't these little guys just the sweetest painkillers there are??? Praying for good news tomorrow. |
