Well, I'm stunned and haven't been online as I've been thinking and praying. Turns out the malignancy was extremely tiny, early and all of the malignancy was extracted by the needle biopsy and no malignancy seen in any of the lumpectomy tissue - at all!!! For this reason and my age and continuing hip and back problems and low grade osteoporosis, neither oncologist thinks I need either radiation or even Tamoxofen(sp?), given the odds in my case. I have a 4% less chance of getting a return of the malignancy on Tamoxofen at my age with my type of CA than I have if I don't take it. The odds are slightly better with radiation but not by much. They both like having the radiation as a card to play down the road should it be needed and think it is worth it to my health to not make me have the "overkill" of radiation right now. Apparently, the Tamoxofen isn't that much of a deterrent at my age with my type of tumor so they think the side effects would certainly come in to play. Anyway, I'm going to talk to the surgeon as they both are and we'll go from there.

It's certainly good news as I didn't ever ask about the type of or grade of malignancy I had - I usually do better with something scary the less I know for a while. So these last two days hearing about how early on it was caught and how blessed and lucky I was to have had the screening mammogram when I did have really been a lesson in preventive medicine and a pleasant shock. My surgeon was more like "it's cancer so out it comes and the protocol is for radiation or mastectomy....period" and asked me if I wanted particulars and I said "No, not right now, please". She did tell me it was very low grade and I was certainly rewarded for getting the screening mammogram when I did and because of it, would have less trouble all along and left it at that until I was ready to talk to her about it. So, now, I'll call her and discuss the radiation and Tamoxofen and see what she thinks.

I am so grateful to have caught this so early that I'm still a little shocked that I may not be getting further treatment and have got more thinking and consulting to do. I'll probably get a second opinion, too. But for now, I just don't want to do anything but sleep. haha!

I'm back from my dog sitting to such wonderful news.:D:cheer::cheer::cheer::coolsmile:woof::woof: :yay_jump::yay_jump:and so happy for you.

Welcome back and yes, the news was so good I was worried a little at first not having anything in the way of treatment between me and a recurrence but given the side effects and all things considered, I agreed with both oncologists to forego any preventative treatment as the odds weren't that much more in my favor vs. the side effects, which weren't so much.

So glad to have you back on YT again even if you were only gone a few days. :)

Thank you all! The great news of catching this disease in its earliest stage is a powerful message for the power prayer and yearly, screening mammograms, even if it is scary to go get them and wait for the result. I'm so grateful for the prayer and support from those here on YT as it really saw me through some scary times and I imagine there will be some more of all that needed ahead when it's time for a repeat mammogram in 5 months.

Jeanie, I am rejoicing in your health! The Lord surrounds you with His comfort and healing power. You are smart in getting a second opinion. Cancer must be handled very aggressively and in your case I thank God they caught it early. That's why mammograms are So important. That is how they caught my cancer and after all the treatment I am here still able to serve the Lord. I pray for wisdom and good decision with what you do next. You want to take whatever measures you must to keep this killer away. You are covered in prayer by all of us who love you! And Tibbe too!

Aw, bless you, Sandy, for those strengthening and comforting words. It sure makes a difference to have any situation covered in prayer. Lots of support by the tender-hearted helps also. I know inspired humans who work hard and endlessly to develop wonderful diagnostic tools and treatments to help his children are actually God's hands here on Earth and that prayer sustains us, moves mountains and motivates miracles.

Thank you, I missed YT and knowing how you were coming along mostly. TShe took her laptop along, sometimes she leaves it but she had to do some work while she was gone so I couldn't even read. I have a desk top my SIL gave me from his office but nothing portable and I really don't want anything portable, I don't travel that much any longer.

It looks like all these prayers may have helped you. :) God Bless

Hi, Jeanie.

You're so right-even though it is scary to have the yearly screening mammograms done, finding the disease in the earliest stage is a good incentive to all women to have them done.

You can be certain, that everyone will be right here, praying for you, in 5 months when it is time for the repeat.

Love & Hugs from Sheila & I.

Rich

Being w/out a computer or internet connection is awful, isn't it?

I think the prayers did work and am grateful for every last one!

Yes, that 5 months will probably fly by as time does when you are waiting for something you don't want to do! Early, regular mammograms apparently don't save enough lives to satisfy all those doing current studies and make them worth continuing money wise but they sure make a different in some womens' health! I fear before long, the protocols will be cut and screenings cut by age to later in life and less frequently in all but those w/a personal or family history or positive BRCA gene.

Boy, I'll be appreciating those prayers along about that time, I can assure you. It won't be a fun test to have again and wait for the results for sure.

Jeanie,

You're right, sadly, early screening doesn't save enough lives. Sheila's aunt on her father's side of the family, died of breast cancer, and we believe, that if the protocols change in the future, it is still worth it, for a woman to find a place that offers free screenings, if they can't afford it.

We've seen different hospitals in our area, offering free screenings.

Yes, the 5 months will fly by, but the power of prayer is amazing.

So, you can count on us to continue our prayer.s

Love & Hugs,
Rich & Sheila
