Alex still needs prayers I thought we were about over the whole surgery thing. We made it through surgery and even fighting him to keep the bandage on. Then the stitch popped and caused an infection in his knee. We got a round of antibiotics and managed to get the pus to stop. Today he comes in and his knee is a little swollen. It is also a little red. So I had a friend who is a nurse look at it who described it as looking a little "angry". She thinks there is another infection. :( She told me to watch him and if he got worse to go to a walk in clinic. And if not then to take him to his doctor Monday. I thought he had it made. But looks like another set back. Any prayers for him will be greatly appreciated. :(:( |
I am keeping you and Alex in my prayers! Xoxox |
Oh no! Sending up more prayers for Alex... |
Have already put you guys on that prayer list. PO infections can be pretty serious if the bug involved is a bad one though this does sound superficial but you know what to watch for. I'm so sorry you are having such a bad time of it. I wish I could send you a vacation. I'll bet you could really use about 5 days to do nothing but sleep, have massages and nothing but restaurant or room-service meals as you vegged out. |
Keeping Alex in my prayers and the rest of your family. I know you are keeping a close eye on the infection...hugs! |
Poor Alex (and mommy). Your friend probably already told you to watch his temp, but I thought I'd mention it just in case. If he starts running a fever, I would get in somewhere sooner than Monday. We will keep you both in our prayers. If you can't get to the vacation anytime soon, might I recommend a nice white wine spritzer? ;) |

Watch for very red areas, streaking of red, warmth and swelling too - oh, you'll know it if you see it. I had a simple finger nailbed infection that suddenly one day quickly began to streak red toward my hand and that old bug took a while to get cleared and 2 or 3 different antibiotics. Hope Alex and Rosie are better today but I'm praying until I hear different!!! |
Just seeing this , I hope everything will be ok! Sending hugs and prayers your way. |
Poor guy:( I have had Alex in my prayers since before the surgery. I pray that this infection gets cleared up fast. |
Poor Alex! Sending prayers that his knee will heal completely soon. |

Praying for Alex. |
Hoping all goes well w Alex at the dr today. |
Thank you! The surgeon has surgery all day so he can't see us. However, Alex's pediatrician has agreed to look at his knee. I know he will tell us if everything is ok or not. Peace of mind is worth a million dollars. |

Kristin's idea sounds like a good plan to me:D |
Update Ok, well the surgeon couldn't see us today because he is in surgery all day. So, I contacted Alex's pediatrician (whom I trust with all my heart) and asked him to see us. Of course, he agreed. He thinks there is still an infection and put Alex on another round of antibiotics. In addition, he also feels like there is some fluid build up which is causing the area to swell. Needless to say, we are back to seeing the surgeon. Alex has an appointment at 10:30 and we will know more then. The pediatrician seems to think it will need to be drained or packed. Oh Lord we just want this to end. :(:( My poor baby has been through it with this knee. Continued prayers are greatly appreciated. |

Maybe a draining or an incision and drainage to properly clean it out with maybe a stitch or two, dressing and antibiotics and some blood work & culture for good measure should finally put him to rights. Hopefully just the draining of the fluid is all that\'s necessary but if it\'s very angry or spreading when the surgeon sees it, he may go a bit further. Be prepared for more and that way if just the simple part is all that\'s necessary, you\'ll be pleasantly surprised. If it\'s not much, he\'ll probably just drain and pill him. I am praying for the latter! When this is all over, you deserve that vacation and the ice cream! |
