Something is wrong with my baby, Brewster We got our Brewster last Sunday, so we have had him 8 days. I took him to the vet on Tuesday to make sure he is healthy. All week I have felt something was wrong. He hasnt wanted to eat & I have tried about 3 different foods. I have been giving him Nutri Cal, I have been giving him water with a syringe when I dont see him drinking. Yesterday, his poo turned to a very dark brown, almost black. I wondered if he had blood in his intesinal tract. He does play with the others, but in my opinion not like other puppies. He doesnt have the energy that Baxter and Bayleigh have and they are only 1 month apart in age. He should be very spunky at 5.5 months. Tomorrow he was scheduled for his neuter, when I took him last Tuesday they said, he looks great lets do his neuter next week. I called at 1pm today and they said have him here by 2. I just didnt want to go forward with a neuter if something was going on. They did a fecal, and took blood. They kept him and sent me home and said they would call me in an hour. I am so sad and if something happens to him I will be heartbroken. He is health guranteed, I just hope everything comes back OK. I guess I will know soon. :( |
You and Brewster are in my prayers! I hope everything turns out okay! |
Oh I am so sorry that you are so worried! I am sure he will be fine. Lexi and Bentley are only a week apart and she acts so different then him. So much calmer and laid back. Bentley is going going all the time! Please let us know what the dr. says. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. |
1 Attachment(s) Thank you so much. I hope it is nothing more than a bug or worms. They tried to do the fecal last Tuesday and werent able to because he was fussy. They were going to do it when he came for his neuter. Anyway, I am hoping for the best. Thanks for the encouragement. Here is a picture I took just before we left to the vet. |
I'm sorry your baby is sick. I'm sending prayers for a quick recovery! |
Hope he feels better. |

Sending many prayers that way. Keep us informed. |
I'm hoping that everything goes well for your little guy! |
Oh he is absolutely precious in that picture. It is amazing how quickly they grab hold of our hearts. |
I'm praying everything goes well for him and you! He is a cutie!!! Please keep us updated! |
So the Vet did a full blood panel on my boy, everything was normal. The fecal also came back negative. However, he was slightly dehydrated. She said it was not severe, but he needed fluids. So, I left him there and they did the IV. I was able to pick him up at 6:00. She also said she believed (by what I described) he has a sensitive tummy. She put him on Prescription Diet this week, she also told me to give him 1cc of Immodium every 8 hours for 3 days but no more than 5. She scheduled his neuter for 1 week but said she wanted me to call Saturday to let them know if I think it needs to be pushed back again. She feels his lack of eating is him being in a new surrounding and that I will see a major difference this time next week. (I hope so) Tonight, I can tell he feels better. AND he even got a few bites of dry food. YAY! I got him a week ago yesterday and I have not been able to get him to eat consistently & he wouldnt eat any dry food. This is an improvement! I feel so much better! :) |
I'm so happy to hear that Baxter is OK and feeling better.. |

First I must mention that your picture of Brewster is just darling and I can see how he has attached himself to your heartstrings. He is just beautiful ... I will pray that he improves and that his lack of appetite is just due to his new surroundings. I know that the chix and rice is a good choice and hopefully this will stimulate his appetite to eat. Please keep us updated on his progress .... :heart to |
Thanks everyone! :D Question....his weight went from 5.9 to 5.5 in 6 days. Is this a lot? Have any of you had these problems getting a new one comfortable at his new home & if so, what did you do? My hubby was talking about some gravy type sauce at the petstore to put over his food, but I am afraid it will upset his tummy. I am doing the chicken and rice today, but is that OK to give everyday? I have to get him to eat. I am trying sugar in his water today. |

He is still acting odd? Don't waste your money on the gravey type sauce. I would start him on chicken and white rice and see how it goes... You don't want plain sugar in his water.. |

He ate about half of what I put out this morning of the prescription diet. I have not seen him go to water today. He did drink some last night. Why no sugar in the water? I was told to try just little to see if he would drink. His blood sugar is fine, never has been low. |
Thank goodness he is doing better. I pray he will continue to improve. Thanks for keeping us updated! Hope your day is wonderful. :) |

What is the presciption diet? I have never heard of putting regular sugar in a puppies water...and I still don't see a purpose as you know about Nutri-cal...Nutri-cal does have something in it to make little ones want to eat. |

Okay I understand now... The prescription food is to make him want to eat...usually they scarf this down... Still not sure about the sugar... Hmm I will call a few people to see if they have any ideas. A puppy should be running around and causing havoc....and then crash and sleep and then wake up and start all over. They will sleep alot but usually the transition is very easy... |
I've never heard of the sugar in the water either . Hmmmmm? You can add a little Parmesan cheese on top of the food to also get him to eat too. Another thing that you might want to try is adding a little water to him food so that as he eats he will get hydrated that way as well. Did he recently have vaccines? You did also say that he is teething maybe that is what is causing him to not want to eat. |
I'm so happy to hear this! I hope the new diet helps! |
Have you done a blood panel on him? |
Good news. I made chicken and white rice tonight, no seasonings and took the skin off. He scarfed it!! I was so happy to see him eat, a lot! I did add water to it, thinking he would drink the water to get to the food, and he wouldnt touch it that way. So, I gave him a dry plate, just the chicken and rice, he LOVED it. (actually, they all did) This is probably a no no, but my hubby gave him his water with a tablespoon of the chkn broth added. He drank the entire cup. Yes, a blood panel was done and everything was normal, except for the dehydration. I even had them do a parvo test, fecal was normal and so was his temp. Hoping today is another step to him feeling well. :D |
BTW... he wouldnt drink the sugar water????? |
