My brother had a battery blow up in his face :( Last night my little brother, well he's not little he is 6ft 4in and 25 yrs old, was charging batteries for my son and his son's remote controlled cars and a battery pack blew up in his face. He was home with just his 10mos old daughter who was thankfully on the other side of the gate (good thinking Daddy) when it happened as it blew battery acid and peices everywhere. He had his cell in his pocket and called 911 and my parents. He spent 8 hours in the ER getting his eyes flushed and facial wounds cleaned. They called in an optomotrist to get all the pieces off his eyes and he went to see the opt againt this morning at 8:30. He has scratches in both eyes and some scarring in the left, that is the one they are worried about. His eyes are completely swollen shut right now and will be for 5-6 days they say. He is just miserable not being able to see. It's times like this when you don't realize the value of the everyday things like sight. It won't be until he can open them that they will know how serious the permanant damage is. As of right now they are expecting the left eye to be permanately damaged and partial loss of sight. :( He has to go to the eye doc daily until at least friday. The burns on his face from the battery acid will heal with minimal scarring they think, but we have dealt with a very good cosmetic surgeon from my numerous surgeries from my motorcycle wreck that he will see if not. I know I have asked for P&PT recently for my Dad, and I hate to ask for more, but my brother needs them. He is a truck/delivery driver for Innova and his sight is what he needs to work and support his family of 6. Any P&PT you guys could spare we could really use them again. TIA everyone, I will post updates as I receive them from Mom and his fiance. :) |

Yes when I heard Olivya was there with him alone I freaked. Thank goodness he had the baby gate up and her on the other side of it. This is something he has done hundreds of times, as my Dad got him into RC car racing at a very young age and he progressed into 1100cc dwarf car racing. Now him and my Dad are getting the younger boys in the family into it. I guess he noticed a smell and saw it was starting to swell so he took it to the sink and turned around to get a metal pan to cover it and as soon as he turned back around it happened. He was 2-3 seconds to late. :( Kevin is staying at my mom's house so she can help him and his fiance can continue to work as he can't right now. She also has my niece there with her so she has been a busy Mom/Grandma. Mom said he has slept all day since he got back from the opthamologist, as he put him on Demeral, 2 antibiotics and something else just can't think of what it was. He wakes up and is so frusterated due to the pain and not being able to see, can't even go to the restroom by himself. :( I just pray the swelling goes down sooner so he can use his sight and there is no infection and no/minimal loss of sight that surgery can repair. Kevin had put in for vacation for this whole week so he was already off work but is hoping his company will use his medical as a paid leave of absense so to say and save his vacation time for when he can enjoy it. I told him not to be worrying about that now, just work on staying positive, though it's has to be so hard right now. His job stuff can wait, this can't. Thank you all so very much for your prayers, positive thoughts and comments on recovery. My Mom is about at her breaking point with everything that has happened in the past year, she so just needs everyone to be in good health so she can relax and take a breather! Dad has been having issues from his stents and now this. I better stay home and not get hurt, she would kick my butt if I did, lol! |
OMG ! Prayers for your brother coming right now ~.... That's awful :(:(... I hope he has a full recovery...he must be so scared |

I'm so sorry. :( Never feel bad asking for thoughts and prayers - there are some things in this world that we can keep giving away no matter how much gas costs! :) I sincerely pray that he makes a speedy and complete recovery and that he is able to cope with the future.
