I live in Atoka, Oklahoma now but my husband and I were living in Vernon for awhile. We just moved here last August.

yeah vernon is an hour from here. did you get your jasmine from a local breeder? i got skoshi from one near you.

Oh really? Who did you get her from? (if you don't mind me asking) A good experience?

I got mine from well - basically he's a broker. I had very specific ideas of what I wanted though and knew he had a lot of contacts and could help me track down my ideal puppy. Jasmine came from a kennel in Arkansas and I think it's a pretty good situation. In fact the breeder hasn't released two of the five puppies for sale yet because of their size, has meticulous records on the puppies, was exceptionally kind and generous with information, etc. I went and looked at her and put down a deposit on the pup I wanted but the broker actually picked her up and brought her to me later that month since I couldn't make the trip back out for another week. :-)

a couple in caddo, OK an no i wouldnt refer her to anyone else on here! but there are 2 ladies on here that would probably vouch for me on that one! I found out a bunch of stuff once i bought the puppy,

:-( Probably the same woman who provided a stud for my friend.

Get this - the lady I work with, "C", has a gorgeous AKC registered yorkie. She's 2 years old now. A year and a half ago my friend sold this gal an AKC registered stud becuase she didn't have the time/energy to devote to him or to breeding at that time.

Now she calls the woman and they make an arrangement for Rusty to come stand stud for her girl. They meet at the vets, etc - open up the crate and out pops this OTHER dog. NOT Rusty (the stud C had sold the breeder the year before). C says "This isn't Rusty!" and is told "well this dog is a better producer" blah, blah, blah. And C didn't know any better - this was her first time to breed her dog, etc. Here's her girl in full heat, at the vet's office, ready to go. So she went ahead with the breeding.

NOW - puppies are here - 4 weeks old almost and C is trying to track down the registry information to send in to AKC. Come to find out the stud this woman brought was NOT AKC AT ALL!!!! Yikes! It's a CAC or ACA or something like that.

C is now in the position of 1-not having AKC eligible pups that she thought she would have so can't follow through the lead on a potential show home in Nevada to purchase one or two of the dogs. 2-has to go through the expense and trouble of registering her female with ACA just in order to have some kind of papers on the puppies.

She is SO furious!!

I told her she shouldn't give the woman pick of liter since the puppies aren't the quality she thought she was going to get. The vet told her to just pay half the price of the puppies as a stud fee and tell the woman to go ____ herself. Since SHE was in default her end of the contract. :-( So horrible.

Well - bummer. I was hoping to find a good, responsible person close by. Caddo is VERY close.

Where in Arkansas did you get your yorkies?? Now Im scared that Izzy is connected somehow to some of this.

Oh no, no - the bad breeder is one in Caddo, OK. I happen to live near there.

I got my yorkie from a breeder in a town in Arkansas (starts with a B - Boonseville?) and she seems very knowledgable and "with it". :-D

I am the other lady Txgurl06 was talking about and I ALSO vouch for her on NOT REFERING this breeder to ANYONE. Also... a bad experience, mine luckily didnt end in the death of my baby. Mine was saved. Sophie... in my avatar came from that breeder. Unfotunate as it is this is a bond that Lopsi, Txgurl06 & myself all hold close to our hearts. It is NOT something we would EVER wish on someone as it is sooooo heartbreaking to go through the types of experiences we had. For Lopsi... she paid the ultimate price....the loss of her sweet Caddo.

Indeed! I spoke with my friend, Carla, who just bred her little girl and found out that Carolyn IS NOT the lady that provided her with a stud. She'd gone to Carolyn's kennel and the dogs were stacked on bare wire cages two or three high (which of course is VERY unsanitary - there were no bottoms to the cage so excriment from one would fall onto the others.).
Word to the Wise: Carolyn W. (the breeder referred to here) also has a daughter in the areas whos dogs are just as bad and usually go for only about $300 around here - much more for out of towners. Her name is Rhonda R. just for fair warning.

Lighter Note: Jasmine is awesome. She got all "A's" on her health check, handled her vaccinations with no problem, has adjusted to family life REALLY well and can handle our somewhat boisterous family with zeal and enthusiasm. AND she didn't have any accidents yesterday or *knock on wood* today.

Really - her other accidents were my fault - her crate was too big. She felt like she had room to go in the corner but in typically puppy fashion would then forget it was there and be a mess when I got her up in the morning.

I blocked the entire back half of the crate and she did perfectly last night.

Hurray for elarning curves and puppies resiliant enough to forgive you quickly for your mistakes.

Are you a member of the OKC Yorkshire Terrier Club?

This months meeting was canceled becuase so many people were out of town but I think I'm going to try to go to Septembers meeting (it will be my first one!).

They hold it at the Sante Fe resteraunt - not sure of the exact directions but it's only 2 hours away. I figure just going would be a great way to meet people in area who are really involved with Yorkies. :-)

I just moved from TX to California...am a member of The Bluebonnet YT Club of Greater Dallas-Fort Worth. I do know the President of the Oklahoma YT Club, Ken Lambert.

HI!!! :-) Yeah Ken and sent me an email about it and then another to let me know it had been canceled for August.

I'll get details on September's meeting....it would be AWESOME to meet some of you in person!

Ken is a great guy. I do know several of the members in the OK club....it's known as the Bluebonnet sister club.

As a matter of fact one of the members just Championed one of my stud's offspring and another of his offspring is a few points from obtaining his Championship

Travel through Atoka on our way to the Tulsa and Grove shows. Several of the Bluebonnet members spend the weekends at Ken's home during the Oklahoma City Classic Shows and Shawnee Shows.

Did you know that there is a Yorkshire Terrier Specialty on September 14th at the Sterling Hotel on Regal Row. On the 15th & 16th the Dallas-Fort Worth Toy Club is holding their Show at the same location.

No, I didn't. How do you find out about these things?

Pretty easy if you show yorkies/dogs and are a member of the clubs.

But, for those that don't you can go on to YTCA.org to find out about upcoming Yorkshire Terrier Specialties. Since you live in the Central US, you can log onto Onofrio.com....it'll give you a listing of most of the shows in the Central states. There is also infodog.com. Or you can do a google search for Dog Show Superintendents....it'll bring up Superintendents that handle dog shows in various parts of the US.

What is great about these sites is that after a show has been completed, after a couple of days, you can log back on and it will give you:
the # of dogs that were entered (determines the number of points awarded). Kind of nice for exhibitors....gives us a bit of insight on how stiff the competition was.
Their Registered names.
Their Breeders
Their Owners
Who won each class, who took the points, Winners Bitch, Winners Dog, Best of Winners, Best of Opposite and Best of Breed.

I don't show but I would love to go and watch.

If I'm not mistaken the Yorkie Specialty will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. As I won't receive the Judges Schedule for the Toy Specialty until a week before the show, I don't know what times Yorkies are showing Sat & Sunday.

But, it's fun to come early and stay until after Best in Show.....They'll be Vendors. Oh! if you'd like to join in some after show fun, Friday Evening there will be a Bluebonnet Dinner at Dunston's Steak House on Regal Row. You can sign up at the Show on Friday.....There will be an auction of wonderful things right after dinner. Come meet some new yorkie people.
