| New to YT and new to snow! Hi everyone! I'm new to YT and just moved to the Dallas area from FL about a month ago. I have two 6 month old Yorkies who are not used to our new place, nor are they used to the snow! Anyone have any advice on walking them with this ice storm going on? I bundle them up in sweaters and scarves, but they just go out to do their business then run inside. I'm afraid they are not getting the exercise they need with this weather. My little girl, Button, was fetching her tennis ball for over an hour last night before bed. Needless to say, she was not ready to sleep last night. So any tips? I'm grateful for any advice!

| welcome to yt!! well if they are not in love with staying outside to play or walk you have to adopt an indoor exercise routine. Thats what we do ...play ball and toys for a good hour or so at night.

| Welcome to YT & to Texas!! Sorry to say, this is shaping up to be a bad winter in the DFW area. There's not much you can do when the ice is as bad as it is with this storm. Snow is so much easier to deal with. My 3 still enjoy some time outside, but it's not easy for them slipping and sliding on the ice. I just try to spend more time playing with them inside then usual. Hang in there, we'll be ice free in a few more days.

| Thank you! Yes, we have just been playing with them a lot in the house. The pups aren't enjoying this weather and neither am I! But hopefully once the ice clears TX will be more fun for my Yorkies! Are there any places you'd recommend taking them in the Dallas area when it's nicer out?

| Thanks for the replies! My pups somehow got a hold of a golf ball...so all night they have been playing with that! At least they are occupied and exercising a little in this bad weather!

| Welcome to Dallas! This is my first ice storm too. We bundled up but I am only walking them in the morning when the sun is out. The rest of the time I just try and play inside. You live in Carrollton? We should have puppy play dates! You should also visit the shelter I work at, Operation Kindness, this next weekend we are having pictures with Santa and the proceeds help the little homeless animals. Don't say I said this but the Texas Yorkie talk people are really the best North Texas' Oldest and Largest No-Kill Animal Shelter | Operation Kindness | Saving animals since 1976

That ice storm was terrible! The pups and I are glad it's over with! And thanks for the tip on Operation Kindness! I just moved to Carrollton. Do you know what time Santa will be there? I'd like to take them before their grooming appointment! Also, let me know about puppy play dates! The babies and I would love that!

| Snow here too Zoeys first winter, she still wonders what happened to the green grass! She goes out a little but not long! Just out of curiosity. No decent place to pee! Too much snow! Have any of you carpeted stairs not too steep? We live in a tri level and it's like having 3 homes for her! She has different toys in her own space but anyway she loves to have you roll her squeaky ball down and runs down to chase it, snaps it up and runs it back up to me. GREAT exercise ! Now if I can teach her to roll it down herself once in a while! Lol.....Make sure there is carpet or a rug at the bottom , cause she goes flyin! Plus ping pong balls are a blast cause her mouth isn't big enough to get a grip so we play "soccer" on the tile floor. She will bat at it like a cat and sed it flying , I then tsp it back to her with my toe. Try getting one of those 3 way cat tunnels sold at Petsmart that pets r us make. Zoey has such fun zooming in and out and grabbing the hanging balls in the middle and dragging it all over, soooo funny. These are some ways we exert some energy , and oh we throw mini frisbees in the kitchen dining room stretch too Oh my it's good to be boss of the house |
