Atlanta Area Meet Up Starting this thread, I would be interested for sure. Someone mentioned a nice park in the Suwanee area. |
Sounds great! Wish we were closer, but depending upon the date we might be able to make it. |
Chattapoochie Park is in Duluth. I believe there are other dog parks in Norcross, Pickneyville Dog Park and Graves Dog Park. |
I've been to one in norcross, Suwanee, downtown Atlanta and Dunwoody . I'm open to any location really but timing will have to be after Emma is done with all her shots . |
Timing for me would have to be later in the summer also. I am involved in a project that is sucking the life out of me right now. Does someone want to suggest a date. As far as location, I am open to anywhere. Sophie Kate is a great traveler. |
I'm good with suggesting Dates. Saturday August 9 Saturday September 13 or 20th Do we want like a yorkie and owner type social picnic that last a few hours? Or just like a yorkie play date for like an hour or two? I think the September date allows for more comfortable weather for both owners and the dogs but I'm open to hear what others think. Location: since everyone is mobile and willing to travel we have several options. I think once we figure out what kind of "event" we are having we can decide on location. |
I like the idea of September and also the socia/picnic idea. Sophie Kate does not like the heat at all, I am afraid if we do it in the middle of Summer all she will do is lay down and pant. |
Hotel/motel information would be great incase some will need to stay overnight and don't know the area. |
I help with Hotel information for sure. Once we decide on a date and location we need to make sure people in the region know about it. |
Some Details Ok so of the ATL area dog parks I think the Pinckneyville Park in Norcross would possibly be the best fit. There is a small dog area with agility equipment but access to a Pavillion directly across the walk way for a picnic. There is a fee to reserve the Pavillion or we can do a smaller sitting area with tables and chairs for us which is also near by. We can do potluck style picnic so yorkie moms and dads can bring goodies. I can create a sign up for this as well so we don't duplicate anything. I also think we should start getting a head count of how many we are expecting so we know if we will need the pavillion or not. September 20th, 2014. Time 10-2 I think should cut it for a social and get to know. If you have children and will bringing them a long there are play grounds within eyesight of the dog park and picnic area. |
Boy you are good at this planning thing. September 20th is a good date for me. |
OK, I'm gonna resurrect this thread. Sept 20 works for me, and either Duluth or Norcross or even Suwanee is ok-less than 2 hours to any of them for me. North of Atlanta is much easier for me to get to than anything below the perimeter. This gives me plenty of advance notice so I can schedule the day off & I have penciled it in. Whaddya say? Still on? I will be thrilled to meet everyone in person, especially since so many of us live so close! |

We've decided that it will be Sep 20 at the Pinkneyville Dog Park in Norcross. As far as reserving a Pavillion we can do that, but there's a $35 fee . Or we just wing it and hope theres space near at the pavillion that sits across from the dog park. That's totally up to the group but if we are going to reserve I can call and make that reservation. Can someone take over the hotel sheet/directions info? Light Snacks,Water, etc. We can do a sign up sheet so no one brings duplicate items. We'll also need a head count which we will do closer to the timing of the even (say August). |
I can work on the reservations at a hotel near by, not a problem. What I need is some ideas on what a good room rate would be for those traveling in from out out of town. Also if we can get email address I could send out a Sign Up Genius, that would allow us to RSVP and decide on the snacks. Sophie Kate is excited, she is tired of playing with just Shih Tzu and wants to see some fellow Yorkies. |

I'm ok with both reservation and no reservation. I guess someone who frequents that park and knows the number of folks who use it would be the best qualified to make that decision. |

@SophieKate (Cheryl) I think a good room rate can be between $75-$125 a night. Something within a 10-15 mile radius of the park. This is the address.4758 S Old Peachtree Rd, Norcross, GA 30071 For the email, I'd just go on gmail and make an account and you can be the admin over it. And when ready, maybe we can do a sticky on this thread that would be private that people an add their emails so people can get the sign up genius info?? |
Perfect, will start researching tonight. Also will make a Gmail account. |
I wish I could make Sept. 20. I'll be driving back from the beach that day. :-( |
I would like to come to the meetup and the 20th is good for me. My email is anniernc@bellsouth.net. Just let me know what to bring. |
Looking forward to meeting everyone! Even hubby Jeff said he might come. |
..... {sound of crickets}.... This still on? The planned date is this weekend. Do we need to pick another date? I am looking forward to meeting folks I only know from online. |
You 're right. My family is having a to-do on Saturday in Birmingham. I'll be in AL on Saturday. How can I be one of the people who set it up and not there. I don't want to stop the show but I'd like to be there. I'll be back on Sunday. Totally up to the group. |
I'm OK with rescheduling, but I don't have both of my work schedules yet. I may be off Oct 2, but not sure. I work a lot of weekends due to two jobs. I really would like as many people to be there as possible. Alternate dates? {Bueller... Bueller...} |
I have an idea, why don't we have a meet up at my rescues event. It will be held on Sunday, October 5th at Centennial Olympic Park. There is easy access from the connector and parking is being provided by the American Cancer Society. It will be a fun day in the park, lots of dogs, dog type vendors and a band. You all could bring your snacks, pups and a blanket and enjoy the day (note: we have held this event for a number years at this location at this time of year and it is always a GREAT day). Here is a link for the event (Note: registration for the walk is not required to be in the park but always appreciated) Paws in the Park Atlanta | October 5, 2014 | Centennial Olympic Park If not we could do a meet up at the Pet Expo in Duluth/Norcross, that is in early November. Just a suggestion. |

I just saw this post I would have loved to join you all but will be out of state on that date, maybe next time. :) |
I'm good with Paws in the Park on Oct 5th. |
Don't forget about this event THIS Sunday. I'll be there around 3 until it ends. We have a few things to do in the morning and early afternoon. Hope to see you guys there! |
I am working Saturday night, but plan to take a nap then come down to Centennial park. Hope to see you there! |
I can't do the Paws in the Park for a prior commitment, but I will go to the Pet Expo. |
