Hi.
I'm a Ky. transplant to southern Indiana, does that count? I'm new to YT and a new Yorkie Mom so I know I'm going to need a lot of advise. I haven't had a puppy for years and Chloe is my first Yorkie. By the way, we are spending Thanksgiving at Barkley lodge but they don't allow pets. I'm really conflicted, any advise about leaving her. She is 12 wks.

veggienut 11-07-2008 06:40 PM

I'm in Louisville....anyone else from here~?

Sophie'smom 11-08-2008 09:46 AM

I live in Salyersvile Ky. I would say it is about 3 hours from Louisville.:)

Hey, I am not too far from you. I am in Staffordsville. There is a new groomer and boutique opening up in Paintsville on 11/19. I can't wait!

I know, I am so tired of the groomer I go to in Prestonsburg. The place is so dirty! I called their number and it said they will start taking appointments on the 15th. I can't wait to see what they are going to sell. They have been remodeling for months now, I've been getting antsy. I would drive by once a week to see if they were open.

Thank you so much. I do my own grooming but I love to shop. I can't wait to see what all they have. I think I know what groomer in Prestonsburg you are talking about and I know what you mean. Thanks again and who knows maybe I will see ya there.

Hi Camile of course you are still a Ky girl, and a 12wk puppy should be left with someone that can spend time with her, young puppies can become stressed with a lot of changes. I raise yorkies and dearly love them, I live within 8 mi of Barkley lodge it is beautiful there and good food.
Happy thanksgiving. my website Lakeside Yorkies

Are you spending just Thanksgiving at the lodge? If you are going to be here more than one day I would check into hotels or cabins in the area that will allow pets, I know they are there. I googled pet friendly hotels once and it gave me a website where you can search pet friendly hotels in different areas. If you are in the area for a couple of days make sure you have time for a trip to Pattys Settlement to eat, especially if you aren't in the area often!

Your welcome :) My Yorkie has been chipped by a company of which I had to register online for him. This is their a portion of their website (which has changed since I've been there). There is so many more available hotels in the USA, or so it says. I haven't checked it out. Please call before you go, just incase they have changed their policies and etc. :animal-pa

Does anyone know of any good groomers around Berea KY.....one that will listen to the owner, and not put them in cages to blow dry....at this time I give Chino his bath, however he is growing all of his hair back so I thought it would be best to allow him to get use to a groomer. I only want him to go to one place only so he can over come any new issues he might have.

I take my Yorkie to Petsmart here in Louisville. He's in the back somewhere when he is being washed and dried. I had no idea that they cage them when they blow dry dogs. Is that true for every place~? I will ask them next time I go in there. They do cut them and do certain things in the front so you can watch thru the windows.

I have not gone to Petsmart since its 45 min. drive, I just know that is what I have found around here. Plus they look awful when they are finished with them.

Hey everyone,
I have a 6month old boy... his name is Broden. Like to meet someone in my area for play dates. He is such a little guy (2lbs) that when I took him to the dog park he was overwhelmed. Not afraid just distant. Boy when I took him to the park directly across the street he just ran and fetched his ball and I if didn't know better he was smiling all the way!!:D
Also if anyone knows of a groomer I would appreciate it. I had considered Petsmart until I was there one day and a dog was traumatized and they took him to the back and I"m sure sedated him. He was so loopy 5 min later. And as I watched I come to realize they are groomers in training. I would like Broden to go to a seasoned professional.

Oh yeah we live in Lexington

Anyhoot thanks from me and Broden for any response.:aimeeyork

I use to go a place next door to my Vet here in Louisville. They did a good job but couldn't get his nails smooth. I was concerned for my Yorkie tearing up my hardwood floors that I had recently been refinished. I found out that Petsmart has a special tool that smooths out their nails and I have been going there since. I have had a good experience each and every time. My Yorkie is a bit scared only because he knows I am leaving him, but once they take him and work with him he calms down they tell me. Then when I get back, he bouncing back to me in my arms. They don't use tranquilizers on him and perhaps they have to for certain situations. I don't know, but for their safety they probably have rules to follow. Check out Petsmart and ask questions of your concern, or check your phone book and call around. Good Luck~!
