YT rules? Not intending to step on any toes here, and I dont' want to get suspended or banned -- but I have a question.... " YorkieTalk is privately-owned " was in a thread earlier and I was wondering who owns it? Don't they accept donations to keep the site up? Just an honest question.. it just *sorta* appears if something is said that an admin. doesn't like, it gets locked or bleeped out. Not really "free" speech, IMO. Like I said, I don't want to get banned for questioning this. This forum is packed full of great information and I want to stick around. Just trying to figure the whole thing out. :) |
Dan...Fasteddie...owns the site. :) |
Fast Eddie runs the site. He has set up rules for the forum so that is why threads get locked or deleted. He said he had alot of problems with the site before the rules and thats why he has had to enact them. There is truth to what he says because when I was new he didnt have the rules and alot of new people would get offended and leave. He wants the forum to grow. I remember he even put a thread out asking people to be courteous to new people. I know I dont like it when threads are locked either but understand he has to do what he has to do. |

Oh I can definately see the getting offended and leaving part.. and I agree there needs to be rules -- its just that sometimes threads seemed to be locked when there isn't a heated debate going on or anything.. just opinons of certain subjects. Hope I haven't offended him -- that was not my intention - just curious. |
I agree and locking of threads really bothers me too sometiems. I think he takes the approach that he is gonna lock it before it gets out of hand. |
I Think there needs to be rules and some times locked threads. Cant be letting every thing get to far out of hand. So I think it's great how they step in when needed. :) |
Yes, we do accept donations to help run the forum, but YorkieTalk is privately owned. Being a Donating Member does not give you any "ownership" of YT or preferential treatment, but it does have its own benefits. :) Only the government is prohibited from restricting speech. Because YT is privately owned, speech can be restricted in any way that YT sees fit. If someone posts something inflammatory or negative towards YT or any member, we can delete it as we own YT, the server it resides on, and the database. We try not to restrict speech, but there are times that it is unavoidable. Threads may be closed or deleted by moderators or admins for any reason. Usually they are closed or deleted because it goes against YT rules or some other kind of problem. Threads are never closed or deleted for no reason. YT tries to be as neutral as possible and we do not close threads because we have a particular opinion on a subject. If we see 5 new (or active) threads on the same subject, we may close 4 of the threads as we try to avoid redundancy. Yes, there are other Yorkie sites and forums. Most of the sites are friendly and we welcome discussion on them. However, there are some which cause us problems and we thus will not allow them any free publicity or discussion. There have been issues and problems with other Yorkie forums in the past, which is why we do not allow any links or discussions about other Yorkie forums here on YT. As this is a community site, we want to keep the atmosphere friendly, and often times, heated threads turn into huge arguments and name-calling, which leads to suspensions and or banned users, which we try to avoid. We have tried in the past to keep hotly-debated threads open, but it never works. It always turns out ugly. So threads may be closed before that happens. It makes YT members and YT itself look bad when someone that is a new (a new member or potential new member) is on YorkieTalk for the first time sees a bunch of name-calling and childish behavior. This is what we are trying to avoid as we want to make this as friendly and welcoming a community as possible, though undoubtedly problems will still happen at times. Thank you for your feedback. |
opinions I have no problems with locked threads..I do have a problem with "vanishing threads"...it is like they never existed. Unless some one is called obscene names or some private information is revealed, why delete them? |
wow if yt admin takes the approach of closing a thread just in case something might happen, than wouldnt all threads be closed? sorry this doesnt make sense to me  yt is privately owned but it is ran on the donations of members meaning that the donating members do own a piece of it because they voluntarily gave money to the site. so if you are using the money that others gave to you, wouldnt that make it somewhat theirs too? kind of like buying stock in a company. afterall the donating members are paying the bills for this forum. i read over the rules and somethings just arent fair but i made a few friends here already and i havent been here long so ill stick around i have also been made away of the little cliques here so im watching out for that. you cant always stop someone from getting emotional. especially a buncha women |
I dont think there are any cliques to look out for. There is a base of regular posters and there is commeradity (sp) because of that. There are constantly new people who become regular posters and they are welcomed not shunned. |
Well, I haven't been on here for very long but I enjoy the site very much...especially the arcade! :D |

Donating a couple bucks to a site doesn't make you an owner. It helps keep the site working AND working quickly. I don't understand what is so hard to grasp about that. Its not selling stock in YorkieTalk. I think that everyone should do a little research into how much new servers cost to hold thousands of Yorkie Lovers and realize that the donations aren't paying even HALF of the cost. I know that's what I did and I thought "wow. If every single person donated a dollar, that still woudln't pay the bills! server upgrades are expensive!" Why shouldn't things that Admin doesn't like get locked or bleeped out? To me, YorkieTalk is like Admin's HOME and whatever or whomever Admin doesn't want in his HOME can be deleted or asked to leave. If someone was writing a bunch of crap or saying a bunch of crap in your HOME that you didn't like, wouldn't you reserve every right to "delete" the crap or them all together? I believe so. and I agree with Chachi about the "cliques". Of course people who post 4500 times in a short time they've been on YorkieTalk will have comrardery and commentary about everything. Also, little nicknames or inside jokes brought over from other threads. Its natural and its FUN! |
well sorry i didnt understand i just thought donating to a website meant sort of like holding stocks  i dont think you should have attacked me like that. i dont know about upgrades or wutever. :( |
I wasn\'t attacking you. I was sharing some of the info I\'ve found out with everyone who was wondering. |
