As far as cleaing it up, get some natures miracle, it won't hurt them and it takes the smell up..wipe it up first with an old rag, soak up as much as you can, them I spray it with the natures miracle, and then I let it set about 5 min. and then wipe some more..!

I have to disagree about bleach being bad. If used correctly (diluted, allowed to air dry/evaporate) bleach is very safe and effective. LOL, of course, I agree that it can't be used on every surface.

Edited to add: I believe it is AMMONIA that you are not to use to clean up urine, not vinegar. White vinegar is a staple in my house for cleaning. :)

I can see you are having a very hard time with the pup, your hubby and your anger with the breeder. Try your best to seperate the three but talk to your hubby and have him on your side because you both need to be on the same page.

I noticed a few posts back your husband didn't get to him in time. If you on 60 min time frame for taking him out then you need to change it to 45 min. and write it down so you know what your husband is doing and he know what you are doing.

I like the crate til he gets used to knowing when you are happy and praise him for doing his business in the correct place but Never Never get upset with the pup and put him in the crate because you are. This crate is his haven and a place where he is happy until he can graduate to an x-pen and I like the x-pen idea also.

Just one other thing every trainer I have ever known has said to give the first dog more attention than the new one (now that does not mean you neglect the new pup) but the first has to know your love is not being replaced and they will in turn get along better. I too think you should get to a library and read as much as you can but housebreaking is very basic and hard work. Good Luck!!

Yes, I know not use Ammonia, and that it smells just like pee, wich naturally has Ammonia in it! You would not want to use it to clean up pee messes, as it would attract a dog to that area to pee.

I was also told by a dog trainer and also a friend that works in an Animal Hospital in Toledo, Ohio that Vinegar should not be used because it can also smells a lot like pee, believe it our not, thats your choice. I was told that mixing the pee smell and the vinegar together will confuse the dog. they will smell the vinegar and it having the pee smell will make it think that it is a spot to pee in. They said to use a pet stain removal products because they are formulated to handel pet mess, like urine, vomit, feces. They work by neutralizing the odor, the enzymes in the solution brake down the waist till the smell is gone.

Also if the pee soaked into the carpet pad then your best bet is to lift the carpet to clean the pad and reclean the carpet area. So you might want to see if they are nessing in the same spot over and over, that might be the problem.

I have had 2 trainers in the last year specifically tell me to use vinegar as a correction method to break them from peeing in the house. They told me to clean it up first with water then wipe it with vinegar and make them smell it and verebally correct them. Dogs are supposedly offended by the vinegar smell. I have always cleaned their room with white vinegar and it gets rid of the smell and I know mine don't like the smell.

Well, I hate to differ with him, but if you do a search on the internet, vinegar(white) mixed with some water works wonders..it stinks to us, but it doesn't smell like the dogs pee...Believe me, My mother who is 81, has used it since she had dogs, and she's had them all her life...and as far as the smell, I've used it before, my dogs smell it and run away from it, they sure don't pee there the 2nd time

vinegar will work...I am so sorry and I don't mean to be rude, but I really think you might want to find that baby a new home, it sounds as if your not very happy with him, and they pick up on your moods...He is only 5 months, we don't let puppies go till they are 12weeks old which means, 3 months or sometimes longer, if you expected him to be trained by 5 months you haven't been reading alot on yorkies, they are the hardest to train, and too he doesn't know you, scared to death, and God only knows of the situation he was in at the breeders...:( Please sell him and find him another home...:(

I agree with peanut. As much as we hate to see a dog have to be in another home , you have only had him two days and there is no bond as yet and I think to find another loving home where he could be the only dog would be best for all concerned. Your contract may read he has to go back to the breeder so I would check that first.

How much did you pay for the dog?

Hey ladies, give this girl a break. She's only had the pup for less than 24 hours, got home in the middle of the night and is feeling a wee bit overwhelmed...let's try to help her out before we give up on her. What do ya say??? If everytime I got overwhelmed I had gotten rid of the cause, instead of calming down and figuring out how to deal with it, I'd be a really lonely person (you know, no hubby, no job, no pets, no.....;) :D )

:thumbup: :thumbup: I agree. I know first hand that it's hard to adjust to a new pet in the mix. Especially if you feel you've been lied to and if your original dog doesn't take to him immediately. Just try to remember that it's not the dogs fault and he only wants you to love him. Things will get better. Just try to remember that he's still a baby and he isn't doing these things on purpose. Hopefully you'll be able to get some extra sleep tonight so that things will go smoother tomorrow. And, each day he's with you he'll learn your routines and rules. Just tell yourself that you can make it through the first week or two and then you'll be in a better position to evaluate what needs to be done. He'll be used to you by then and you'll be bonded more to him. Just look into those gorgeous eyes every chance you get (who could resist those cute eyes!) and tell him you love him. He'll be happy and you'll feel good for making him so happy. He's a beautiful pup. Good luck!

I use belly bands for Carson...he's still having accidents, so if i can't 100% watch him, I have one on him. He's 10 months. I use Always feminine pads with wings and don't have any leakage. I change it as soon as he has an accident too...so he doesn't get skin irritation.

I bought mine from Des at Go.Fetch. She does a good job. and they are pretty inexpensive.

First off, I want to say congrats on you new baby, It will get better, everytime i got a new baby there was a adjustment period, sometimes taking as lond as 2weeks, i know sounds like a long time, he isnt use to your rules or your house and he needs reasurrance that its his new home, Im sorry you feel like the breeder lied to you, thats stinks:( but please give him a chance and before you no it, he and your other baby will be best buds;) I just recevied my belly bands from go fetch and they are great and very reasonably priced;) good luck and take a deep breath:) :)

Years ago when we got our first house dog (golden retriever) we were told to crate train him and to get the book The Art of Raising a Puppy by the Monks of New Skeet. I know that our yorkies are much smaller, but the principles are the same. I don't have to use the crates all of the time now, but have one setting out all of the time. The dogs will go in it to rest or get away. It was also necessary to train them to crates to travel to shows, the vets and to be contained at shows. It crate training is done correctly it is not mean or abusive. Maybe this book would help your husband understand how to get the pup house trained. Yorkies and other small dogs take longer to be 100% trained. I usually tell people that they will be over a year old before you can expect no accidents.
