Ringworm Again! Help!! SO its' been a year and Chewy has ringworm again. The vet said that with yorkies its typical to never go away. Last time we used a few dif. meds and Ketokonazole was the one that actually worked in the end. It was also on her eye lid so topical creams were very dificult to use. This time its on her back so were using a shampoo called Malaseb. Have any of you had experience with this shampoo and if you used another one how long does it take approx. to see any change. Were going to use it 2 times a week for 2 weeks and then once a week after that. I will also be putting on a thin layer of lamisil for a few weeks. Please any advice would be great because im worried that this will be like last time. It took 5 months to see any hair grow in. Thank you in advance |
Anyone??? |
I don't have any experience with ringworm but will bump this up for you. |
I don't know if this is true for dogs, but my Husband had one on his lower leg last summer. We never figured out where it came from. Anyway, we used two topical creams and it woulnt get better. Our Dr told us to swab it with rubbing alcohol and let it dry before applying the cream.(Ketoconazole) It started to clear up within days of using the alcohol. If it is on his eye of course you cant use the alcohol, but anywhere else and it might help. Good luck:) |
Treating your home is also important. Fungal spores can persist in your carpet for up to 2 years, so re-infection is a concern. The more animals in the house, the longer the treatment must go on before the environment is clear. Getting rid of the hair in the house, kennels and pet sleeping areas are the best way to rid the fungus from the environment. This is why veterinarians recommend clipping the pet’s hair (alert the groomer). Fungus likes to grow in dark spaces on hair and debris. If your pet has ringworm, change the bag each time you vacuum. The parts of a bagless vacuum can be soaked in diluted bleach water between uses. The only reliable killer of the ringworm spores is a 1:10 dilution of bleach in water. Use this with care because it will stain. Sunlight also kills ringworm. Items that cannot be thrown away can be left in the sun outside to rid them of ringworm contamination. |
Thanks guys. I think the house is ok cuz we dont have carpet. I dont know what you can do about couches but i wash our bedding and and her toys often. Has anyone else had a dog with ringworm and used shampoo? |

That sounds like a good idea to get rid of some of the oil and let it absorb easier. It is on her lower back right now so I could use the alcohol but what if she licks some off? The vet said that i could put a thin laye of lamisil and let it absorb a little and then it would be ok if she licks it. Thanks though |
I have use this shampoo a lot, I have use it on a jack russell that had skin problems and also on horses for rain rot, It's great the only draw back is you have to wait 10 mins and shampoo twice a week, but it does work, I always keep a bottle on hand. it also comes in a spray which I have also use, |
pmed you marina! |

Ring worm My baby Cookie has a swore on her body and took her to the doctors for a check up and pointed it out to him..well it turned out not to be ring worm but because she is so small and her immune system is still weak he decided to treat it like ring worm..so he gave me ear drops called TRESADERM!! all you have to do is put 3 drops in each ear..2 times a day!! Hopefully this helps you out!!:animal36 |
