Please pray for Kirby

My daughters yorkie, Kirby, who is also Maddie's brother from the same litter, is in so much pain due to a problem with a disc in his back. We had him to the vet on Tuesday and he was given prednisone and pain killers, but he just isn't any better. He shakes and he pants and can't seem to get comfortable. I feel so bad. My daughter has a call in to the vet, but she hasn't heard back yet...we think he's out pheasant hunting. Kirby wouldn't even eat today, so I took him up some Natural Balance meat roll and he ate that. Poor little sweetie...just breaks my heart. Please say a prayer for him. Thanks so much!

aw i'm so sorry kirby has a disc problem. My neighbors dog hurt his back last week too and was in the hosp from monday to thurday. he got better with steriods. I'd take kirby to see a neurologist if he isn't better soon. Poor little guy.

Praying for Kirby. I hope the meds start helping soon. Maybe he will have to see a specialist to get some relief.

I'm so sorry for Kirby. That happened with my Poodle and another time with a Spaniel we had. It's so hard to watch them in pain. The vet gave them steriods and we had to crate them for a couple of weeks to keep them quiet.

I hope little Kirby will get well soon with no lasting ill-effects.

How's he doing today Connie?

peanut 10-15-2007 01:23 PM

I hope Kirby is doing better today....:(

Connie 10-15-2007 01:42 PM

Thanks everyone, for your prayers and well wishes. We don't know how this happened to his back. Melissa wonders if it's because she just got wood floors and got rid of the carpet and maybe he jumped down from something, used to the carpet. Anyway, Kirby has been at the vet today and it's been a busy day there, so Melissa is supposed to go there at 5:30 to see what the x rays showed and find out what to do for him. I will update you then! Thanks again! Hugs to you all!

Patti 10-15-2007 02:17 PM

Hope they get good news. I will keep them in my prayers

SevenGirl 10-15-2007 02:20 PM

Poor little Kirby. The XRay showed that the disc ruptured and now he's to be kept VERY still...not walk at all for a week. We are to pick him up to take him outside to go potty, then pick him up and carry him back to the crate. After that very limited as to what he does...and the vet is looking at a 6 week recovery. The reason he has to be very still is because the disc is pushing on the spinal cord, which could sever it and cause paralysis. Right now it's pushing enough on it to cause a little paralysis, like yesterday when he'd walk and fall over. I will be babysitting him while my daughter is working and he'll have to be in the crate, unless I take him out and hold him and can also put heat on it once in a while. Please pray that he recovers from this. The vet upped the prednisone and pain killers. Thanks everyone! Here's a couple of pics of him.

Oh Connie, my thoughts and prayers are with your daughter and Kirby ...
I hope he feels better. I do not like that he is on Prednisone ....
I really hope things turn out okay ...

xxoo

cute sweet Kirby ... BIG hugs!

Tink's Mom 10-15-2007 08:32 PM

Aw, poor little guy. So sorry to hear that Connie. I hope he will heal quickly.

Is is possible to use a sling harness to hold him up when you have to take him potty? That's what I did for Tink when she had her hip bone removed. I have hers from pocomutt if you want to use it. PM me and I'll send it to you.

yorkiesmiles 10-15-2007 10:04 PM

:hands: :hands: :hands: Prayers for Kirby. Praying for complete healing. And that he's not too bored the next few weeks.

bettyeanne 10-16-2007 01:43 AM

I am so sorry that Kirby was injured! What a flashback ... to about 20 years ago! My Amanda's toy poodle jumped down from my neighbor's sofa onto her hardwood floor and was paralized in the entire lower part of her little body. Our vet sent her to Auburn University Vet Hospital and they tried "cage therapy" for a few weeks ... after a long recovery, she was good as new! It was certainly a miserable time for everyone, but I was so happy to avoid surgery. We will be praying for little Kirby and all of you.

Marly Mathews 10-16-2007 02:45 AM
