Need input ASAP I came home a little bit ago and Kaya has her rear right leg lifted up. She won't walk on it at all, she won't go potty. She is shaking, but she does that sometimes anyways. I put a hoody on her to help keep her warm. I called the ER vet and of course they can't tell you anything on the phone. An exam and x-rays would be $274.00. Do I dare wait till Monday to see her regular vet? Can I give her anything for pain? Please - any advice is welcome. |
I think I'd watch her for a little bit. If she continues to shake, I'd give her a little nutrical. If that doesn't help and she doesn't potty soon, I'd take her in. Lucy hurt her back right leg one time and held it up for a week even after a vet visit and x-rays showed nothing. My vet told me once to give 1/2 of a baby aspirin for pain to see if it helped, but then told me if it didn't to bring her in. |
I don't have any baby aspirin. Is it possible to give her like 1/4 of an adult one or some Aleve or anything like that? |

If she continues not wanting to put pressure on it....I'd take her in and not wait till Monday |
If she doesn't seem to be getting any better. I'd take her in. |

I don't think it would be safe to give regular aspirin or aleve, do you? |
Ok, I guess I will need to run out for some baby aspirin. How much pepcid are you supposed to give? She weighs about 5.6# |

Teri I hope she is ok. I know if a dog is in shock look in her mouth and her gums and inside of her mouth will be white. does she seem like there is pain when you touch her leg? she may have just pulled something. I would do as the others said and get the baby asprin. If she is in shcok though you should take her in. Call me if you want. |
I hope it's not serious. You got some great advice here. Maybe she's got something stuck in her foot, like a splinter or something? |
I went to Target and there wasn't any children's aspirin - just Tylenol and Motrin. I got the low dosage Bayer but it is 81 mg - that is way too much for a dog, so I don't know how much to give her. anyone know? |
Check on and in between her pad. If it was a bee sting or spider bite her pad will be swollen. It could also be her knee cap has slipped to the side. That would be LP (luxating patella) I'm not big on medications and would let the Vet. be the judge on what to give her, if anything. Sometimes if you give medication it could interfere with what the Vet. may give. Asprin is also an anti-coagulant and can cause excess bleeding if she needed surgery. |
It seems to be tender when I press gently on the knee joint. There is no swelling or anything on the paw pads. |
