Susie I am Just seeing this!!! I am so sorry .. I am praying she is feeling better really soon .. |
I was away for a few days and just found this. Prayers for Tink & for you. |
Oh Tink! I'm sending positive thoughts your way. Poor honey. Have they tried neurontin yet? I wonder how that would work for her. |
Feel better Tink! I hope everything goes well at her appointment today. |
You are in my thoughts and prayers tink:love: |
i'm so sorry to hear that tink is having seizures again. :( its so upsetting. I hope all goes well at the vet today. prayers coming your way. |
Hugs and Kisses from Chase and HAlle. Get well soon. |
Tink had her vet appointment this morning. Her blood work and urine tests looked normal but not all results are in yet, have to wait til Monday for some of them. She lost 1lb 3 oz. since she was in last month. She normally weighs about 9.5 lbs. But she's still a pup so I'm not sure what her adult weight will end up being. But the vet didn't like that. He doesn't know why she won't eat and thinks she is vomiting because her body isn't handling the seizure effects well. So, he's restricting her to fresh or cooked meat and vegetables, no kibble. Once the vomiting is under control, we can start trying to add back things she likes. But it may be that she never has kibble again. He said some dogs with seizures develop an intolerance to the preservatives in kibble. And he said it's OK to keep hand feeding her to be sure she gets something in her. Good cause I would have done that anyway.;) He suspects she is having petit mal seizures quite frequently and the moderate ones occasionally. But she's having grand mal now too - not every day, just one this week. So, he was disappointed that they came back and felt very badly that he took her off the pheno. He said, "I probably shouldn't have done that. I knew better, I just was so thrilled at how well and quickly she recovered. I wanted to believe she was healed." I told him to remember that it was a joint decision and now we'll just go forward. So, to end this long story, Tink is back on phenobarbitol twice a day and after two weeks, he's going to add potassium bromide and try to taper the pheno off because of the effect to her kidneys last time. If he can't get the seizures under control this way, he's going to try gabapentin. I'm pretty worried about that. I have to do some homework on doseage and how it acts in dogs, 'cause with people, it's got some nasty side effects. I'm glad it's generic now so it's not quite as expensive as it might be. Hopefully the Potassium bromide will work for her. Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers for the little Tinkerbrat. Tuesday she'll be 1 year old! I'm making her a cake and we'll have a little party to thank God that we've made it this far and with His help, we'll make it all the way. |
Sending prayers for Tink. |
Best wishes to you and Tink...I will keep on praying that all will be okay. Hugs!!! |
So glad to read your post. I agree, her weight loss is significant and sorry she is back on pheno., but at least she was improving with the medication. Are there additional vitamins/minerals that could be given to boost her immune system? I injected Sophie once a month with Vitamin K for her colitis. What else can you do except try your best and I am sure the vet feels very responsible for her relapse. How do you know what works, etc.? Looking forward to Tink's birthday and turning one year old. Hug her for me and Charlie. Warmly, Deborah |
Susie, I just saw this. I'm so saddened that you and Tink are going through this. Bernie sends his love, and I'm sending prayers and hugs your way. |
Prayers for Tink tonight. I hope that the meds work for her. |
Tink Prayers being sent for Tink. Hope she feels better soon. j:) |
Tink you are in my prayers, you little sweetheart....so hope the meds work. |
I was just reading back through my post from this morning and realize that I said the vet was concerned about the effect of pheno on her kidneys. It wasn't her kidneys although we did have some issues with them from the infection. It was her liver that was suffering the side effects of the phenobarbitol. Sorry for the error for anyone hoping to learn things from this thread for their furbaby. |
Keeping Tink in my prayers. |
I just now saw this..I can't believe she started having them again! :( Sending prayers that she recovers from whatever is causing this, and she'll have many more birthdays to celebrate! |
Winston and I are still hoping and praying Tink will get well real soon. Suzy is she eating a little better today? |
http://www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-...lk_thistle.htm Susie, I was researching cleansing liver for canines, and found this website. It is a long article, but toward the bottom of the page, is information about milk thistle. Interesting and addresses pheno & effects on liver. Perhaps you could read and mention to your vet. Others may have input also since there are a few in YT that utilize homeopathic medications. -Deborah |
I'm sorry I'm just seeing this. I will send well wishes to Tink (and you). I sure hope the meds help~ |
Checking In Good morning, Susie. Just on my way out the door, but wanted to check on Tink. Hopefully, by not posting, you are enjoying the morning with Miss Tink. Tinker, this is Auntie Deborah and Uncle Charlie, and we want you to get well so you can eat another frog, well...chase one but don't eat it! Warmly, Deborah and Charlie |
Hi all, Tink is doing FABULOUS today! I think she just wanted attention from her vet.;) She ate this morning - about 1/4 c. of chicken. Yahoo!!:D No seizure last night and only little ones this morning. Nothing this afternoon. So goodie, goodie, I hope this is the beginning of better things for Tinkerbelle. |
Great News Tink, you little rascal. Isn't your doctor very handsome? I realize you are having those silly seizures again, but did you just want to also see the doctor again, so you wouldn't eat for your Mommy? Hmm...does he make house calls? Uncle Charlie is questioning this because, well...he is Uncle Charlie? |
