WARNING...everyone should read this
 

Today I was rubbing Hannah and I felt a little bump. When I looked closer it was a little white thing attached to her skin, then I looked and they were everywhere on her. I pulled about 25 off in a matter of minutes. They looked like very very very tiny white ticks. I took her to the vet and they said they were seed ticks. I had never heard of seed ticks but I took Hannah (only Hannah and not Bentley-thank goodness) to the farm yesterday evening and she ran through the weeds. Well when we got home last night I rubbed through her coat to feel for any tick and I looked as well. I did not feel anything or see anything, but these are so small that it is very hard to feel, or they may not have been attached yet. I know that some of you have already heard of seed ticks because I did a search. I have spent the last 4 hours pulling probably 500 of these seed tick off her. I did use the orvitrol spray on her followed with a flea and tick shampoo, and I think that it killed them, but they were still attached, so I had to manually pull them off. I have attached some pics of the seed ticks attached and pics of them on a piece of scotch tape. I know it is gross but it is the nasty reality of what can happen......YUCK...:eek:

wow, I hope you have a better day!! Glad you saw them and were able to pick them all off. I've never heard of them either!

They are found everywhere, from what I understand, they are very early baby ticks, a tick before it becomes a real tick. The vet also told me to go home and go over every surface of my familys body, especially the skin folds and belly button. He said that a man he knew had one that was attached under the foreskin of his penis......:eek: . He said they can go everywhere.

OMG!! :eek: Does DEET keep them off humans? Would Frontline keep them off yorkies???

Wow I have never heard of those either, Thanks so much for the info, and I sure hope your baby is ok, they look like nasty things for sure.

Deet must keep them off humans, because I ALWAYS have Off on me when I am outside and I have never seen one on me-but then again, who would notice. My dogs use frontline and they are not due another dose until 10 days from now. So I might start putting frontline on every 3 weeks. I also read that August is the worst time for these early ticks.

LOL, you think you are itching like crazy... you should come here....we will all end up with a skin infection if we don't quit scratching...:eek:, puls all of our bed covers and the dogs blankets are being washed in hot water. It is CRAZY here. I hope none of you have to go through this. It is worse than when my daughter caught lice when she was little.

That is just horrible for you and your baby!! I also heard that male ticks are no larger than a match head, so maybe that's what they are also. I hope she's feeling much better now that those nasty things are off of her, poor little girl!

Thanks. She never scratched or even acted like anything was ever bothering her. She is just glad that I am finished picking them off her.

She gets frontline once a month every month and it is not due for 10 more days, however she will be getting it Sunday.

My rehomed vicious Yorkie from Ajendas, arrived here full of them. They were huge and the vet had to remove them. I had never heard of them previously. The breeder told me he caught them on the plane. Yes, in a 2 hour flight they grew large.

Wow, that is unreal. Hannah must have gotten hers yesterday evening and I am glad they didn't grow too big before I found them today.

I want to thank you for the heads up waring...never seen this before, and never care to see again..sorry you did. Hope all is well now. They actually look like seeds, hence the name I assume.

They are about a 1/3 the size of a sesame seed. This has been and still is a very bad day. I have always been one that keeps Hannah super clean. She does not even go outside to potty if it is raining or the grass is wet. I am a super neat clean freak and I am really freaking right now. I am going to have to take 2 benadryls and go to bed....:eek:

thanks for sharing this. i have never heard of this either. but i will definitely keep an eye out for my baby and myself!! i hope your baby is feeling better now!

Never heard of them, and hope I never have to see that ... is this a summer thing????
