update on Irish 2 Attachment(s) Irish got to come home yesterday afternoon. She is doing alot better. She does have a liver shunt. They put her on a special diet. To see if that helps her. Also on some meds. None of the vets thought she would make it. She was not able to see for one night. THe blindness went away. SHe goes back in two weeks. To see if she needs surgery. Or unless she has anymore spells. Here are some pics. THe one is a pics of her being transported to the medvet hospital. The others are from today. I will post better ones today. These are with my cell phone.. Thank you everyone for keeping her in your prayers. I will keep ypu guys updated.. Irish and her mommy Tammy |
I am praying for your Irish...I know what you are going through, as I went through this about 3 yrs ago...Everything will be okay if you get her on the right protocol. What kind of food did they put Irish on? She looks like such a sweetheart. What kind of testing did they do, if I may ask? Please join the liver shunt and mvd group on yahoo groups: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/L...d_MVD_Support/ Tell them your situation and what you've been through, and you will get a ton of helpful advice. Also, they have an extensive amount of information in their FILES section. Please join the group. If you have any questions at all regarding liver shunt or liver disease, please don't hesitate to ask. Did they put your baby on lactulose or any supplements like denosyl or milk thistle? These are very important for liver compromised dogs. Lactulose helps absorb toxins and push them out of the body so that they don't have seizures. Also, the denosyl and milk thistle help protect the liver from further damage and help regenerate the parts that are damaged. They help the liver function properly. |
She's adorable, and prayers are coming. |
also I did get her from a breeder. I actually bought her to breed with my buckeye. I called her and toldher what was going on. She told me she has never heard of a liver shunt. |
I hope she pulls thru this and I will certainly say a prayer for her. |
Praying for your sweet little girl :hands: :hands: |

Anyone who is breeding yorkies should have heard about liver shunt even if she's never had it in her lines. I'm so sorry about what you are going through, but I really hope that you will join that group that I sent in my previous post... |
I joined the group u was telling me about.. Thanks.. Also they have her on lactulose liquid. three times a day.. Biosol three times a day.. and felbatol.. The dog food they put her on was Hill's prescription diet i/d |
tml1412, I'm glad you joined!! I wouldn't recommend i/d for a liver compromised dog as it contains turkey(which contains tryptophan-bad for liver compromised dogs) and worst of all, it contains pork liver (very high in purines and one of the worst things you can give a liver compromised dog)...If you want to stick with Hill's products, I would ask for l/d...Or ask them to switch you to Royal Canin Hepatic LS14, which is much more palatable and better for them, in my opinion. |
thank you so much for the help. I will call the hospital and see if they can change it. Cause they sent a case of it home with me. They told me to feed her a half a can small meals about 4 times a day. |
Yes, she should have 4 small meals per day, and the lactulose should be given either directly on the food or directly after the meal, so that the toxins are absorbed immediately after eating :) Did they do an ultrasound or scintigraphy? |
Oh my prayers are with you! She is a beautiful girl!!! |
yes they did do an ultrasound |
god bless you and you baby sending prayers your way |
1 Attachment(s) Prayers and lots of huggs and kisses..I hope all goes well.. |
