Please Pray for Jen - Heart Condition Jolie & Jen went to the vet today for spay & puppy teeth removal. As a precaution, we had an EKG done on both and Jen's results were abnormal. Thank goodness we elected to have the precautionary test done! Otherwise she would n The doctor immediately sent her results to a veterinary cardiologist for a consutation and was told not to proceed - Our vet said this is the first time in 3 years where he was told not to proceed with surgery due to an abnormal EKG reading. So far all we know is she has 2nd Stage of Atrioventricular Block (aka: AV Block) it has something to do with an abnormal heart beats. Since I'm at the office, I can't spend the time to really research it right now. Soon as I learn more about it I'll update you. In the mean while, if you can say a prayer for Jen that her condition is not too serious and not life threatening. I know your prayers will be heard! Corinne |

Oh, Corinne, I'm sorry to hear this! I used to work for a pacemaker company in the sales field and I would donate my soon-to-expire pacers (but they still have 7-10 years of life in the pacer) to Vet hospitals. Since she has AV block, what happens is that the sinus node, our natural "pacer" cannot communicate w/ her ventricles and tell them to "get going". So, let's say she starts to run - her sinus node in the atrium says "let's beat faster" but it can't communicate with the ventricles so the ventricles just "sit" in what is called an "escape rhythm" - basically a slow, constant rhythm unaffected by activity needs. A pacemaker could be set at an "average" pace in the ventricles so that she wouldn't just sit at a the slow rhythm. Does this make sense to you? Anyway, it might be something to look into - they can def. be implanted into dogs. As a favor, I used to go to the Vet hospitals to do "pacer checks" every 6mths or so, since they need to tested and checked, and I that was the favorite part of my job. Keep me posted! Ann |

Prayers for litte Jen. |
Thank you for all you support and prayers. By looking a Jen there is no way to tell anything is wrong at all. I just got off the phone with our regular vet and although her condition is rare it is not serious right now. No medicine was given to her and he wants her re-checked in a month. Well, if you know me and Dan, you know that we will be taking Jen to a Cardio Specialist and have already set an appointment for next Saturday to get a second opinion. Dan and I were feeling her pulse last night and her hearbeat actually seems to speed up every 4 to 5 beats. Like thump-thump-thump-thump-tha,thump-thump.... Jolie did just fine with her spay but she had10 teeth pulled!!! All were unshed baby teeth! - Eeeek! After all we went through with Jolie, the news yesterday really hit us hard. Just can\'t bear to go through the emotional roller coaster like that again. Thank you all again for your prayers! |
