Update on Abigaile 1 Attachment(s) We brought Abigaile home today after surgery for Legg Perthe's disease. My husband and I have been worried as to how all this would go..after all she is our baby...We took her in this morning..after withholding food since midnight last night..I think that was hard...this morning..we tried to get out of our regular routine so she would expect her breakfast..it was so hard..out hearts were breaking..he started the surgery soon after 8 am...by 10:45 he has called everything went as expected..and she was doing fine....ouch...Fine to him...isn't fine to us...poor lil girl has a incision 2 inches long,in a horse shoe shape on her hip...poor lil leg is bruised...of course she isn't holding it down at all...she was thirsty..and hungry...we didn't give her much...and will give her alittle more before bed tonight...she is on antibiotics...and pain meds.. Tonight husband and I don't expect much sleep...that's going to be hard..since we had little sleep last night...because we were upset and worried..I don't wish for anyone to every have there baby go thru this...I again want to think everyone for your support...I'll write again tomorrow... |
Awww, poor baby! She sure is beautiful:love: Healing thoughts being sent:) |
I am glad everything went ok. She will be a little sore for a couple days but not bad. You will be surprised how quickly she is hobbling around. It will take a good month before she even thinks about putting weight down on it but I bet she does fine. |
She's so pretty in her dress :) - we're seeing way too many operations with this breed and it's so sad but the upside is - someone said you should see her back to her old self soon and I hope you do. sending get well wishes !! |
Poor little baby girl -breaks my heart when any little furbaby has to have surgery or doesn't feel good. Prayers for speedy recovery. She is absolutely gorgeous in your picture. I love that dress:) . Get well soon, sweetie. |
Hope she's feeling a bit better today! |
Aww, poor little Abigaile:( Glad you have her home safe in your arms - prayers going out for a speedy recovery. |
Poor little girl. Hopefully she will feel much better soon. |
She's so beautiful. Praying for a speedy recovery. |
Last night 1 Attachment(s) Thank you for all your support and prayers...I've been up since 2:00 with her...it is just so heartbreaking to see our baby like this..I'm holding on to the thought that she will get better soon...she just hobbled in the office where I am...she is soooo sweet..I thought everyone would like to see what she looks like now...yikes..she will need her lil dresses to cover up her leg for awhile..of course..she's not about to wear one now....thanks to everyone |
That picture breaks your heart looking at it. I hope Abigail feels much better today and the surgery was a complete success and she is up and running and playing in no time. She is very luck to have parents who care so much. Hugs all around. |
Poor baby! ouch! I thank you for putting that photo up. Even though it was hard. Maybe someone else going through this with their baby will see it and realize that it is very normal. Hugs to you all and puppy kisses to Abigaile from Gizmo |
poor Baby, give her lots of kisses, hope she feels better soon ! |
That looks so sore. The poor little thing. |

It makes me so sad to see these wee pups going through surgery and the recovery. However, hopefully, she will run, play and be pain free. Warmly, Deborah |
She is beautiful. I 'm glad the surgery went good. Make sure to tell the breeder you got her from of her condition. It can be genetic and I'm sure they would like to know for future breeding. |
Sunday Morning Abigaile is very sore...but she is moving alittle more everyday...If we accidently touch her incision she cries...I feel so bad for her...Yes we are giving her pain meds and antibiotics, she goes back to the Dr 8-27-07 to have her stichs removed..he thinks she might start putting some weight on that leg then...I did contact the breeder we got her from..I don't know what she will do with the information..but at least I did my part..We looked for about 3 months for a breeder we thought was responsible..I guess this sort of thing just happens..I'm not that familiar with this disease. I want to thank everyone for your support and prayers... |
Thank you for the morning update on your baby. I apologize if it sounded like I was lecturing you on her meds, but it is painful when the bone is involved. She is so tiny and reminds me of my sweet Sophie. Take care and it is wonderful to see a loving and dedicated Yorkie owner. Warmly, Deborah |
Understand Deborah, I didn't take offense at all....actually I appreciate you taking an intrest in our baby...We lost our Hillary at 14 1/2..last 7-11-06..I was reading another posting you had about Norman...I too took pictures of Hillary..we have her buried in our back yard..it is very comforting...to walk out and talk to her...put fresh flowers and decorate her grave..she was our Angel...thanks for responding..huggs |
Get well soon Abigaile ! Hugs from Zoeybear!:getwellso |
Question Oh my...We are starting to question if we've done the right thing with the surgery...Before the surgery..when she walked she walked on all fours..only when she ran did she hold up here left hind leg....you can tell she is unconfortable..she bits at her stitches when she walks...of course..we saw the xrays..showing her hip...and the deformaity..I know we really had no other choice..but I wish she was back to herself..running playing..having fun... |
Okay, Momma...relax and it has only been a few days. She is most likely in pain and remember the nerves are connected along the same path. There are other posts about this surgery, and if you read them, it takes quite a while to recover. From a human standpoint, I put weight on my operated leg, but really couldn't walk without support for weeks. Good luck and take a breath (inhale - exhale). Warmly, Deborah |
Thanks Thank you for the encouragement...sigh...trying to breath...thank you again... |
Poor sweet little Abagaile. I certainly hope she has a full and speedy recovery. It is so terribly hard to watch our babies when they are hurting or sick. When they hurt...we hurt...that is totally a normal, loving reaction. Be patient, she will soon be back to her happy go luck self. Hugs to you...kisses to Abagaile...Get well soon!!! |
My heart breaks for little Abigail. I'm praying for you and your family. I know how hard this must be, but I just want to say that she will be better in no time, just you wait. And just think without the surgery, who knows what could have happened. You acted out of love, so there's no way your baby won't know that. She's going to try to get better, because she knows that will make you happy. I'm sending all my best wishes out to her and you. Good luck. Keep us updated. |
8-22-07 1 Attachment(s) It's a slow recovery for Abigaile but I did want everyone to know how she is doing...she is walking around...playing some with Lil Ricki (cat) of course she isn't putting any weight on her leg..but it hasn't been a week yet...sigh...it's just heart breaking for myself and her father...I'm sending a new picture out...thanks for every prayer sent up...I hope this finds everyone and their babies well and happy... |
Oh, thank you for the update and picture of Abagaile. Hopefully, she is eating and going potty okay; it is a slow recovery and did she go for her checkup with the vet? Everything healing well? Warmly, Deborah |
1 Attachment(s) Abigaile is eating good..a couple of days..we had to hand feed her...when she goes potty.."I think" it must hurt her leg..because she will bite at it..she goes back to the vet 8-27-07 unless something goes wrong....(which I don't expect)...Thank you for caring..it means so much to us |
I know it seems like the healing process is forever...but I think Abigaile looks great, she's come a long way already. Bless her little heart, she's trying so hard to get better, you can see it in her bright eyes!!! Thoughts and prayers that all will be well real soon again!!! |
1 Week Today 1 Attachment(s) It has been one week today since Abigaile had her surgery for legg perthes..it is so heartbreaking to watch our sweet baby trying to get around...her little leg just hangs there..I have read alot about the recovery and know it takes up to a year..but until you are going thru it...you don't know just how long a week is...I told my husband last night..if only she would try to put some weight on that leg...our little trooper put just alittle weight on her leg twice this morning...I was sooooo happy...she is our world...so innocent..and sweet She is having a hard time potting on her puppy pads...the new area rugs are working wonderful...for her...lol...but who cares..we can buy new ones..thanks to all the prayers and support..it means alot to me to have people to talk with that share in the love of the fur babies... |
