See the vet Please see my posts "I lost my precious Yorkie" and Cause of "Mac's death" Search by user name Sallyvine I believe these were posted in April and May in the Sick and Injured Talk. I don't want to be an alarmist, but Mac threw up for the entire time I had him from 9 months to 9 years. This was the first dog I ever had, so I didn't know any better. He puked up yellow stuff, green stuff, undigested food, partially digested food, and in the last month of his life he threw up what could best be described as sand. He died of protein losing enteropathy which means he could not absorb protein. This can happen because of kidney problems, liver shunt problems or intestinal problems. He would sometimes puke several times a day or a week or go for maybe 2 weeks to a month without any puking. I called the vet all the time at first and whenever the type of vomit changed. Always the same answer-if it doesn't stop bring him in-if he is acting ok he is ok. Excuse me but B...S... By the time they discovered what was wrong it was too late. Normally they would surgically biopsy part of the intestine, but my baby could not survive, he was so weak. He went from perfectly "acting" fine to dead in 10 days. Tell your vet this story. Have them check for protein in the kidneys, liver functions, and bowel functions. I have Lolly now and have a very different approach. I will insist that she see the same vet in the practice everytime unless it is a dire emergency. If I were you I would try to find a gastro specialist. This condition is particularly common in Yorkies and Wheaton terriers Now I know it is not common for dogs to vomit as Mac did. I know it wasn't my fault or at least not by commission, but perhaps by omission. I was stupid and didn't know that things like garlic and onions could be dangerous. Lolly gets nothing except dog food and sometimes a tiny bit of cheese and liverwurst which her breeder gave her. She was a show dog, and she never even got dry dog treats, so she doesn't know what she's missing. I loved Mac so much and to think I might have been the cause of the inflamed intestines is devastating. I have made it my business to learn everything I can about Yorkies. Maybe nothing I did hurt him, but I will never have the peace of mind of knowing that. Also, I know this is off topic, but I would appreciate your prayers for my 23 year old daughter. She has come down with strange rashes, her white blood count is low, and her liver functions are elevated. She hosted two former college roommates in her apartment for a week. They had just returned from a year of charity work in Africa. They just informed her that they both have mononucleosis and one has amoebic parasites. I am terrified because she has some heart problems as it is. Believe it or not, she cannot even get to see a internist because of her crappy medical plan. She did see a dermatologist and a pathologist and neither can identify the rash. Does anyone know a good internist in Manhattan? If you read that a crazed woman broke down a doctor's door with her grown daughter in tow, that will be me. Peace and Love, Sallyvine |

I hope your daughter gets well soon. So sorry to hear she is unwell. I am from Canada so I am not familiar with the Medical System in the U.S. but maybe there is some sort of state health program you can contact. Wish I could help. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Please let us know how she is doing. Shauna |
Thanks Shauna How sweet of you to be concerned. Anita finally got to see a real doctor today. The doctor did lots of blood work for "exotic travel diseases" and reassured her it is nothing fatal. Considering how concerned we are about our fur babies, it's no surprise we are even more concerned about our human children. Bless you for your thoughts. Sallyvine |
well he hasnt threw up since wed. and he only threw up once that day, he has another vet app. in 2 weeks, so i will have him checked then, idk why is not eating as much as he used to, i think its because my grandparents always have cracker crumbs on there floor, so he goes straight for that, but ive been keeping him away from it, also when someone drops something, he go straight for it. Ive been feeding him IAMS Smart Puppy Small & Toy breeds. Im thinking about starting him on Science Diet:Natures Best, Eukanuba, or Royal Canin, what do you guys think? should i try to change his food? |
If he stopped throwing up then thats good. Abigail was doing the same thing, but I freaked out because I lost my little Summer in March. Her symptons were very similar, but she was just too small to handle whatever it was. It doesn't hurt to change their foods. My little girls get tired of the same food so I change it around. I usually feed them Timberwolf Organics. There are some premium pet foods that offer samples so I am waiting for those to try. There is a sticky with the names of the premium foods. Abigail and Lola really like the Timberwolf. When I go Summer the lady gave me Science Diet they liked it for a little while. The 2nd bag I bought they wouldn't eat any of it hardly. The others I haven't tried. Good luck! |
Our little furbaby girl will often throw up in the mornings before she has eaten and she won't eat in the early morning either. She never throws up in the a.m. if we've fed her something before going to bed the night before. If you can't get your puppy to eat in the a.m. or if you want to get him to eat at night but he won't try this recipe given by someone on here who got it from their breeder: 1/2 cup instant baby rice cereal (you can substitute instant baby oatmeal, but rice cereal is easier to digest) 1/2 cup half-and-half 1 entire jar of strained baby meat (like Gerber) but not turkey 1 teaspoon of Karo syrup (or pancake syrup if Karo isn't available) Mix the cereal with the warmed up half-and-half, stir in the strained meat and mix in Karo syrup. Use one of those plastic medicine droppers that are used for babies (you get them at the drugstore or the supermarket in the baby department) to squeeze it little by little into the corner of your puppy's mouth. Make sure it isn't too hot and don't squeeze in too much at a time. We've used this whenever our little furbaby won't eat and after a while, she learned to just lick it off the dropper while we squeezed, 'cause she liked it so much. Good luck! |
Throwing up bile... My four year old, three pound hairy child had frequently thrown up yellow foam-usually in the morning, but always when it had been a while since eating. Two different vets told me that Yorkies have "sensitive" stomachs-rather vague! What matters is what works. We rarely have this problem with a little prevention. I give Abby a little sugar water or Karo to prevent this when I know she's not eaten in a while or if she throws up the foam I wait five or ten minutes until I think she's done and then give her a little sugar water. It helps rinse the burning bile out of the esophagus and the glucose will help pick up the appetite since FOOD is the best thing to absorb the stomach acid and gives it something to work on. She is always right back to feeling herself afterwards! She has a metabolic panel done every year so we do still keep watch on her kidney and liver functions-so far normal. Yorkies-even full grown-are prone to low blood sugar which makes them feel nauseous and so they don't eat~which makes the blood sugar lower=vicious cycle. Unless your Yorkie has a hearty appetite and eats kibble throughout the day...make sure he/she eats something-even just a treat-frequently.:aimeeyork |
My boyfriend just told my bella throw up three times today and it was yellow and foamy. I immediately panicked because I'm at work and not there to make sure she is ok. He said she was acting the same running and play and only ate a little bit of her food. I became worried because my mom's dog used to throw up yellow foamy stuff but only because he ate grass or leaves outside when he was older. Bella is only 16 weeks old and is suppose to get her 4th shot this weekend so I am praying she is ok. He kind of got me upset because I was asking questions and panicking and he kept saying she's ok or she'll be alright. I'm like "she is not ok if she has throw up three times and not eating. I know he cares but I began to feel like I was the only one concerned for her so I lashed out at him and hung up the phone. I didn't mean it but I want to make sure she is ok and is able to eat. I do feel better though after coming up and researching answers from you all. He did say her stomach was growling so its probbably because she won't eat and only wants human food. He gave her a few pieces of ham yesterday and I believe that's why she won't eat "her" food smh lol. I am going to get her some chicken and rice and some baby food after work to see if she will eat. I'm also going to discuss with him to get her on a feeding schedule. |
