Leather ear??? Help please.... Milo has some flaking going on on the front and back of his ears. With some of it bits of hair are also coming away. Is this how leather ear starts and what do I do to turn it around? Thanks so much in advance!

| So sorry that your baby is starting with this. Do a search on here for leather ear and you will find information. It has been discussed a few times.

My yorkie, Hobbs, the front of his ears get tiny bits of flakey stuff on them and then it goes away. Someone suggested that maybe flies are biting the tips of his ears. But it's only the front of his ears that are flaking, not front and back. Let me see if I can find the thread I made on it.

I'm having that problem with Marley and I'm washing with head and shoulders(only on the ears), wiping his ears with alcohol and finishing with Lotrimin 1% and is really working ......... black stuff came out everyday but now, is clean when I wipe so I hope he is going to be well soon. Good luck!!

Fleas or flies can do this. Is he outdoors during the day playing? Hope you can get to the bottom of this mystery.

I raise yorkies, and it sounds like ring worm to me, take him to the Vet and have him do a scraping, and if it is ring worm, it takes several weeks for it to show up from the scraping. He can also run a light over the ear and tell. You need to get on top of it right away, as it can spread, and can be very serious. Best of Luck, I hope it is not ring worm. But if it is the Vet will have everything you need to treat it.
