What a tragic accident and Missy's Mom that's just what it was. An accident. Crazy things like this just happen. What a scare she gave you. I would have freeked out. Your Mom did great. She was calm and cool and collected. Thank heavens she was there to help you. Hopefully Missy will be fine in a couple of days. Poor Missy must have had some headache. I bet you can't wait to see her at 6:00. Give her a hug from us. |
Sorry guys/gals... about the neurological exam, the emergency Vet did do one on her. I didn't go with them to the emergency because I was at home walking around and crying my eyeballs out. I just called my sister, she's at work.. and she told me that the Emergency Vet did in fact do one and she did good on it. The liver...my sister said the Vet said a certain name in the liver... she forgot what it is called... and he said it's high, which is usually due to stress, since she got spayed... and was in pain for 3 days or so, and it irritates her (itches because it's healing) and now this incident happened to her, so her stress level was high... that caused that certain area of the liver to be high. He said though, maybe a week or two, she will come back and do another blood test to see if it is high. If in fact it remains high, that's when they will be worried about it and fix the problem ASAP. The Vet warmed Missy up with some sort of bottle heated with hot water underneath her head area when she laid down to nap a bit, and he has some sort of warm towels/blankets for her to sleep on because her temperture was extremely low.... Now he said she is much more better (active wise) walking back to normal as well. So everything seems good and she will be good to go in the evening! Further testing will definitely be done in couple of weeks or so. Any fishy symptoms, We are off to the Vet emergency again. |
Sounds like she is doing just great  Could the vet have been talking about Total bilirubin (TBIL)? I know this can increase when they are stressed and it would be perfectly normal for this to be elevated right now. You mentioned earlier about her rubbing her head on the couch or blanket. I think that what you are reading about is head pressing and this doesn't sound like head pressing to me just normal behavior. Regardless, you should have her tested for Liver Shunt since every Yorkie should be. Have them do a bile acid test though not a blood test. A blood test can miss it whereas a bile acid test is more definitive and fairly cheap (I paid $45 last time). As for monitoring her, ask your vet what to watch out for. So glad to hear she is okay!!! |

Hugs to Missy and time for you to get some rest, too -- so you will both be playing together happily again! |
OMG I'm sooo sorry! IDK if you read my thread or not but also yesterday my London fell on hard concrete and hit the ground HARD, so i know EXACTLY how you feel. As I was reading what you wrote I was thinking in my head omg that's the same way i felt. When she fell she looked dead on the floor, it was the scariest thing ever! She was wobbly a bit after but we gave her honey and then chicken and she was back to herself. But i really thought that my little girl died on me. It is the absolute worst possible feeling ever. I am so sorry you are going through this. I really hope little Missy turns out to be okay and she gets back to normal. I am going to be praying for her. |

Missy is back home!!! She will be back @ the Vet early in the morning because we have nobody here to look after her, because I have my last exam to do tomorrow morning. She'll be picked about around the afternoon. The Vet is really comfortable with her turn out. It was definitely trauma to the head, but she is back to normal. She will be reexamined soon. Time for me to get some sleep!! then study! Thank you for all the prayers and comfort. I really do appreciate it. Continue praying for Our family & Missy!! God bless you all. |
You and Missy are in my thoughts and prayers. May GOD Bless you both.:) |

I think she is going to be ok - my demi fell out of the back seat of the suv as when we opened the door she just jumped from her car seat as she was so excited and she is fine. Now for the liver testing I would do the full bile acid test on all yorkies and that is fasting for 12 hours having them pull blood and then feed her then wait 2 hours and pull blood it is a pre and a post bile acid test and it tests while no food and then with food how the liver reacts. My new vet did it immediately since she is a yorkie - normal is below 7 pre and below 15 post. My girl was a 3 pre and 74 first time and 54 second time post. She most likely has mvd and has to be on a low protein diet now as liver shunt is usually over 100 post. It is good to have done and if her liver items are high then it is good to have this tested. Common signs of liver shunt is spaced out after eating, seizures, head pressing on the wall, and vomitting. I believe it usually occurs within the first year. If it is over 100 post then the best test is a liver scan which is a radio active dye that is put through the rectum and followed to see if the dye bypasses the liver- very few people do the test and it costs appx $350. Ultra sound can be done but not as accurate a test. We opted against it due to less than 100 and no other signs and dee dee will be 3 July 3rd. |
Hi guys. It's been 3 days since the tragic accident. Missy has been home for the past two days. She looks better than last time, that's for sure. But she's definitely not herself. She's always tired and shes been tearing a lot, which makes me really sad. Her vet gave her some meds to prevent the inflammation. We saw the x-rays and there was no fractures/broken bones or blood. She's still sort of wobbly when she walks but it has improved from last time. The vet said it was definitely trauma to the head, therefore it can take up 2 weeks for Missy to possibly go back to her active self. I just pray to God she recovers safely and soon. I really do miss her old self a lot. It's sad watching her like this. It's also depressing to see how this could have been all prevented if I had not played with her while she was walking under the table... :( Keep praying for us YT, please... she still hasn't recovered fully. About the Liver, the vet said no, it's not literally the Liver we are talking about. I keep forgetting what it's called grrr.... Tomorrow we will be going, and I'll ask him about it once again and I'll probably note it down on a piece of paper, since I tend to forget the name lol. |
Prayers My thoughts and prayers are with you and Missy. I hope she gets well soon. Jay :) |
Just checking in to see how your baby is doing...Did you find out what the vet was talking about? You said not the liver, what was he/she talking about? |
