Hope she truly is 100% well...How often has this happened? Forgive me if I missed it, but how old is Marley and how much does she weigh? I would and do have NutriCal on hand at all times, now...Karo syrup will work just as well, always assume it's hypoglycemia and treat it as such, NutriCal is not going to hurt her, even if it's not low blood sugar. Thoughts to Marley, continue to feel better...

Brandice, How old is your Yorkie? I don't want to alarm you but this could indicate liver shunt. A couple of years ago my Bella acted this way and I did not know what was wrong. It was late at night and I rushed her to the Emergency Vet Hospital. They did blood work right away and as we waited for the results she snapped out of it and seemed better. The blood work showed elevated liver enzymes very elevated. We were advised that it was either a poisoning of some sort or it could be liver shunt. We followed up with our vet the next day and Bella spent the day at his office for testing. It turned out to be a spider bite. She had been outside right before to go potty and got bitten by a spider, but our vet did say that up to two years old they can develop or rather show signs of the liver shunt. I'd really look into it further. It's not normal for her to do this and the next time she may not snap out of it. I wish you the best and welcome to YT. Elaine

Jrsygal37 is right. This sounds alot like Liver shunt. Ask your vet for a bile acid test. It is very very inexpensive and should only be around $45 or so. I know you said that your vet ran several tests but I really doubt they did a bile acid test. I just think that you are taking a big risk by waiting for this to happen again. If it is liver shunt, then you could lose your baby next time.

I agree with jrsygal37 and drawlins...My yorkie has liver shunt/mvd and he had those problems that you described as a pup...We asked the vet for a bile acid test, but she said she did not want to do one as it was not necessary...Well, he was symptom-free for about 3 months, and I just wanted peace of mind, so I made an appointment with a different vet for the bile acid test...The Sunday before his appointment, he had a terrible seizure...They had a hard time getting the seizures to stop. We could have lost him...When we took him to the vet and they ran all the bloodwork, they found that he indeed did have liver problems...It's better to know now...And if it turns out that he has a healthy liver, then great!! You paid $45 for peace of mind :)

I just wanted to say one more thing :) The extreme drowsiness is her being lethargic, and the funny walking is definitely not normal. Theses are the symptoms that my yorkie has when he is having hepatic encephalopathy symptoms...It is kind of like a seizure. It's definitely a precursor or something like that.
