V is right she will probably get stopped up from the medication. Bella did not poop for a day and a half and just when I was getting really concerned she pooped and peed. That was what I worried about the most. I did feed her chicken, she never cared for rice but she does like baby food. She did not really try hard to chew on her casts so I did not put a collar on her for very long, just long enough for her to realize that the casts were off limits. Thankfully my sister was staying with me at the time and was home all day with her otherwise I don't know what I would have done. Thankfully you are a stay at home mom. Good luck with your little one. She is too beautiful. Jay :aimeeyork |
So sorry to hear about your baby, she looks so sad. But the pink cast is pretty!!! Hope your able to keep her calm and relaxed, bonding time for sure...Lots and lots of prayers for Izzy, you and your family for a quick recovery. Did you see the x-rays, are they just cracked but in good alignment...or is there a definite space between the broken bones. Is the vet an orthopedic surgeon? I'd maybe want to get an ortho consult, for his advise. Casting may be all it needs. Will be thinking about her and wishing her well, real soon... |
Awww I feel so sorry for her, She looks so sad.I hope and pray that the Casting works for her. |
ahhhh my heart goes out to you and your baby, sending her prayers for a speedy recovery. |
good luck ... I am hoping the leg heals by itself with the use of a cast ... it works with us non fur people .... sure lots of love and have her eat her favorite food .... |
HI all! My baby is doing well. My worry right now is that she is not eating. I have tried hand feeding her, I have tried a scrambled egg, canned food (which she usually LOVES). I don't know what to do. Yesterday she ate 4 treats and a tiny bit of egg. |
Well seems I've spoken to soon. She ate this morning. So maybe she just isn't as hungry because she isn't running around. |
Izzy...hope this finds you feeling better!!! But she's not running around burning calories, so she probably isn't very hungry...Hope she continues to eat some though, she needs her strength to recuperate!!! Get well wishes!!! |

Lap time as much as possible. Little boys are tanks, God bless 'em. Give your son extra hugs, and let him do whatever he can to help you with the little one's recoup time so he'll feel part of the solution -- and they can bond. |
I just saw this Tracy! I hope that Izzy is making a full and speedy recovery! <3 |
Poor Izzy I am sorry to hear about Izzy's accident and I want to tell you that with two broken bones casting is not going to help. There is nothing for either of the bones to grasp onto and I know for a fact that it requires surgery because the exact same thing happened to us at Christmas time. Willow was dropped by some boys that came to visit us and broke her tibia and fibula. She had to have surgery to have a two inch plate and six screws put in her leg and then 15 weeks later she had to have another surgery to have the plate and screws removed due to loss of bone density. Small dogs do no do well with hardware in their legs. Willow has been crated 100% since Christmas as this was drilled into my head by the orthopedic surgeon who performed her surgeries. She was only allowed to stand up, turn around, and lay back down. She gets a lot of rides in her doggie stroller and a lot of time on my lap, but absolutely no running, jumping, and playing. It has been a very long expensive six months, but I followed the instructions I was given and I am happy to say that Willow is going to have a 100% recovery. I hope you can do this for your Izzy. |
i hope that Izzy is better. best wishes. hope she's doing better.. :) |
I do hope the cast works for you. Dixie broke her leg, 2 bones in the front leg, and was in a cast for 4 weeks. After 4 weeks there was no sign of healing. I spoke with 4 vets (other than the one who kept casting her) and they all said casting it would not work. We took her to an orthopedic surgeon on Monday and they put a "T" plate in just above her ankle. The length of time we waited for the surgery caused it to be more difficult and will lengthen the time it will take for full recovery. We wasted several hundred dolllars during those first four weeks also with her xrays and casting along with meds. I do hope it works for you. We had hoped for a positive outcome also but are now regretting our wait. She is confined to her kennel except for going potty or if we're holding her. It's really hard, she whines all the time. It does cost a lot but really was our only choice. Good luck and keep us posted! |
Oh my! I am sorry for you. I really hope this casting works as well. She just had her 2nd cast put on yesterday. I asked if she could go ahead and do x-rays but she said after only 2 weeks it was to soon to see any improvement. I go back in 2 more weeks. Hopefully she will do xrays then. I guess I will check into the creditcare thing (hopefully that will work on pre-exsisting things). Is it a credit card or insurance? |
HI all! I wanted to give an update on Izzy. She is doing well. We go in next week for her 3rd cast. This is 4 weeks now so I hope they do xrays to give me an update. I did get CareCredit so if we need to do surgery we are set. I do hope though that this casting will help and no surgery is needed. I wanted to let all those out there who have babies with broken legs know about a waterless bath I found. I bought it from PetCo and I used it this morning. It smells good and it makes your baby look so much better. Nothing can take the place of a bath of course but when the puppies are in a cast they can't get wet. My vet charges me $21 to bathe her when she recasts her. That is more than I pay to have her groomed. So I spent $9.99 on this waterless bath. It is called Veterinarian's Best Natural Care Quick Clean Waterless Dog Bath. They also make a Hot Spot shampoo that I use on Cody when his allergies hit and it works great. This stuff has Neem Oil and Oatmeal to help with itchy skin if they have that. It works great and actually kinda spells like baby powder to me. Just wanted to let others know in case they are paying a fortune for baths like I was. |
